Welcome aboard !
[edit]I also play chess, would you like to play some time ? I play on Pogo, under StuRatTheGreat, in the Social Room named Gravy Train. We would have to set a time to meet there, of course. StuRat (talk) 17:48, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh! Grand! Thanks a lot friend. You are most welcome to play chess. But first we need to set the time. (I am from India and follow the Indian Standard Meridian of Time, which is GMT+5:30). Can you please tell me the time and date? Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 11:53, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm in the Eastern Time Zone, at GMT-5:00, so you should be 10.5 hours ahead of me. How about tomorrow, Saturday, January 24th, at 11 AM my time, 9:30 PM your time (4 PM/16:00 GMT) ? Also, do you play on Pogo ? If not, you should go there and set up a free account first (they also have a paid account, but you don't need that for chess). Be sure to tell me your Pogo screen name. StuRat (talk) 14:17, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've logged on to Pogo, and my Screen-Name is anirban16. Thank you friend, I'll wait for you in the table. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 02:50, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- Just wondering did you play and who won. BigDuncTalk 21:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

- Hello and welcome to my humble talk page. We did play with one another and most of the times, StuRat won the match. He helped me a lot regarding the moves. I did not count perfectly, but He won perhaprs 4 out of 5 matches, and I won on only one occasion. Are you also a player of Chess?! Then you are most welcome to join us for further discussions. StuRat is a brilliant player of Chess and If I could have the power, I would have given him the title of One of the best Chess Player of the entire globe. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 06:01, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
And, I checked out your talk page (which is fabulous!!!) and found out something like The Great Triocolour Flag of our glorious nation India. Are you too a resident to India? Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 06:05, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- The tri colour you see is the Irish flag, and no I don't play chess to much like hard work. BigDuncTalk 20:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Bombay?
[edit]R u frm bombay? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.182.52.28 (talk) 18:30, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Hello. I'm not from Bombay (mumbai), and am from Calcutta (now known as Kolkata), the megacity on the eastern portion of India.
- This brings up a question of mine, why were these names changed ? StuRat (talk) 14:09, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, Bombay and Calcutta were the names given to the two Megacities by the British, who invaded India and enslaved it. After India was liberated, the Indians decided to remove every trace of the existance of the British and to initiate a new start for India. So, they renamed the four Megacities in the four portions of India. Delhi, the Capital of India was renamed as New Delhi, Calcutta , the Megacity on the eastern portion of India was renamed as Kolkata, Madras, the Southern Megacity of India was renamed as Chennai, and finally, Bobbay, the Capital of the Western Province Maharastra was renamed to Mumbai. Kolkata's name was presented to by peculiar story. The story tells that, Once upon a time, Lord Yave Charnak, the Englishman who founded Calcutta was on his way to the central fort of the British. He had to halt for his horse was starving. He called in a Bengali peasent from the local village and asked him to feed hay to the horse. When the farmer brought the hay, the lord said 'Is the crop fresh?' The peasent answered 'Yes, Milord, it is just Kaal Katta (Kaal means Yesterday, and Katta means harvested)'. The name appeared to be peculiar, but funny to the Lord, who decided to name his new founded City to Kolkata. Thank you for asking such an interesting question. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 02:27, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. So all those cities were founded by the English ? I had assumed they were ancient cities. Where did everyone live before the British came ? StuRat (talk) 06:11, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Before the British came, the general people used to live in small City States, which were under the control of the great Mughal Empire. After the Mughal Empire fragmented, the different portions of the empire were declared independent by the Mughal subordinates. In Bengal, the central eastern province of South Asia, Nawab (King in urdu language) Murshid Kuli Khan took control. During his reign, Murshidabadh (in urdu, meaning Palace of King Murshid) became the Capital of eastern India. But later on, the British came and annihilated the Mughal Empire and tricked the Nawab's grandson, Siraj-ud-Dauhla an defeated him, under the leadership of Lord Clibe. (the Nawab had 50,000 troops where the British had only 2,500 soldiers). Then, the British founded the City of Calcutta to compensate for the loss of the town off Murshidabadh. Thus was Calcutta founded. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 11:30, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- How did the British win, if outnumbered that badly ? StuRat (talk) 14:57, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- The British won by the use of tricks and treachery. Lord Clibe offered bribe to the general of Nawab's army, Mirjaffar. Mirjaffar had promised Siraj (touching the Holy Quran) that he'd not betray the trust of the kingdom, but secretly he betrayed the Nawab (since he himself wanted to be the ruler). He had all the men of Nawab under his command, and so commanded them to stand-ground while the English armies were advancing, by declaring that the British had declared a ceasefire (but the British did not). But the two subordinates of Mirjaffer, Mohanlal (who, despite being a Hindu, was loyal to the Nawab) and Mir-Madan, commanded only a few troops to defend the kingdom. They both were killed and the British captured the Nawab too. Then they asked a servent of the Nawab, Mohhammad-i-Begh. to slay the Nawab, which he did in a cruel manner. The Nawab was tortured to an extent that he could not stand any more and was kept thirsty and starving for 2 days, at the end of which, he was stabbed and thus killed. Besides, there was a garrison of the French in the local town of Chandannagar, from where only 30 French cannoners arrived for assisting the Nawab against the English armies. Only 30 brave French warriors destroyed nearly half the British army in about 60-75 minutes! But the Nawab was a novice in warfare. So, getting tricked by Mirjaffar, he asked the French to cease fighting and to return to Chandannagar. This manner of winning through trechery can fairly be equated to the betrayal of Montezuma by Hermando Cortez. Later on, the British attacked the women and children of the Nawab's family. 17 Children of the family were poisoned and some were even engraved alive. The Nawab's relatives beg mercy in the name of great Jesus Christ, but the British got all of them killed. (I think such treatment was to be received by the Sultanate of India, since they destroyed mercilessly the Hindu empire). Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 10:59, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- I see. That sounds very Machiavellian. Well, I'm off to chess now, see you there ! StuRat (talk) 15:59, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- Besides, there were other reasons for the foundation of the City of Calautta. The great conqueror, Napoleon Bonaparte, desired to conquer India from the British and asked Tipu Sultan of Mysore for cooperation. Tipu Sultan agreed, since he too wished to replace the British with the French. The French armies started moving towards Western India by 1798. But the English admiral Nelson came forword and trapped Napoleon's armies in Egypt, bringing forth the Traphalgar wars. This stopped the eastward movement of the French. Meanwhile, Tipu Sultan was also killed by the British in the course of the Fourth Anglo-Mysore war (1799). After the fall of Napoleon, the French came to India and took defeated the empire of the Hoysalas in the southernmost portion of the Indian subcontinent. Gradually, they smashed the British armies and allied with the great Marathas on the Western province of Maharashtra. This caused the British to weaken. They moved towards the eastern portion of India and settled there. They centralized their defences and centred Calcutta. One other reason for the formation of Calcutta was the fact, that the British wanted to keep control over the conquered provinces of Burma (now Mayanmar) and the South-East Asia. So, the selected Calcutta to be the capital of India, since it was closer to South-East Asia. Later, during the Indian Independence Movement, the British shifted their capital from Calcutta to Delhi. Hello Mr. Chatterjee - I would like to point out that Wikipedia has a policy of no original research, that is, the editor should not introduce anything into articles that has not been published in reliable sources. I did some web search about this topic and I could only find a few blogs comparing Hindu and Greek Gods (however, blogs are usually not considered reliable sources). If you know some books or reliable websites where this particular comparison has been made please take the opportunity to add citations in the articles. Thanks –Capricorn42 (talk) 13:46, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Hello. I've a number of books related to the subject. I'm inserting the names of the books now. Thank you for having alerted me. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 13:55, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Mr.Chatterjee, I am a new user to Wikipedia. I had seen your writings on StuRats talk page and have found out that you have published a great rule regarding Organic Chemistry. I am a student of Organic Chemistry and found your method deeply useful for aliphatic compounds. Why don't you publish such rules on the topic page? Anyway, your method is great! I award you with the E=MC^2 barnstar for your great method. And may I keep contact with you through your talk page? 117.201.97.9 (talk) 14:06, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you friend 117.201.97.9, for your barnstar. But I think I did not deserve the Barnstar. If the method came to your use, I feel delighted. Anyway, are you interested in Science? Then I can tell you about more such shortcut methods of Science. And, since like you, I am also new to Wikipedia, so I don't know whether the method can fit in Wikipedia or not. So, I'd like to discuss with you abount Organic Chemistry, and specially about properties of Alcohols, Ketones, Carboxylic Acids and Aldehydes, and you are welcome to contact with me. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 14:15, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, that makes me feel delighted. By the way I am 15 years old. Can you please tell me your age? And, I have a question for you, that is how can the alcohols be classified, with examples of each? 117.201.97.9 (talk) 14:17, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
The alcohols can be classified on the basis of number of -OH radicals attached to each compound basically. There are three basic types of alcohols, namely:
1. Monohydric Alcohols, for example, Ethanol or ethyl alcohol.
2. Dihydric Alcohols, for example, Glycol or 1,2 Ethane-diol.
3. Trihydric Alcohols, for example, Glycerol or 1,2,3 Propane-triol.
And I am 16. So, we are nearly the same! Do you like to play Chess? Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 14:24, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
I am sorry, but I don't know how to play Chess. And, can you please tell me where are you from? By the way, I am from Chennai, India. And, I like Organic Chemistry very much, so I am eager to know how can PX3 be converted to Phosphorous acid using a single-step reaction, where X= any halogen? 117.201.97.9 (talk) 14:26, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Wonderful! I am from India too! I'm from Kolkata, as I've mentioned earlier too. And in answer to your reaction, Phosphorous Trihalide nedds to be heated with strong alcohols to evolve H3PO3. The reactions is:
3ROH + PX3 = 3RX + H3PO3, where RX is the Haloalkane or Alkyl Halide. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 14:34, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

- Thanks for the star. If you'd like to get one from me: I'm trying to get people to cite unreferenced articles. So if you feel like it, please pick a fully-unreferenced article from the Category:All articles lacking sources and fix it up (or choose three 1500 character stubs that would meet WP:DYK requirements if they were referenced). If you don't feel like it or lack the time, you can save it for later or just ignore me :) - Mgm|(talk) 10:40, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Can you explain this edit? It seems you removed a signature from User:Sinebot and altered the date.- Mgm|(talk) 12:35, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Strictly speaking, I saw that the date was of yesterday, that is 25 January. So, I corrected the Date by replacing it with 26 January. And for the Signature, I saw that the IP address was changed to some 117.101.... something like that. I A question appeared in my mind, that how can this be? If I've nhad answered today, how can the reply be sent on yesterday? So, I just altered the date and ID with the previous one. I thought that the person is clearly a hacker and is trying to insert other's IP addresses to blame others. So, I did this. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 12:49, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Please cease the sock puppetry. We welcome you to contribute both legitimate questions and answers using your real account, but do not impersonate other IP addresses and do not carry on conversations with yourself. Thank you. -- 74.137.108.115 (talk) 20:51, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

My IP address is different from the one you are suspecting me to, and to prove the statement correct, let me log out once to edit the page to help you understand. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 05:48, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

- Are you saying that you didn't make the edit pointed out by 74.137.. above? It came from your account. Carrying out conversations with yourself can be quite disruptive as well as signing comments fraudulently (see WP:SOCK for some details). You're very welcome to contribute questions and answers constructively but please stop misbehaving. Zain Ebrahim (talk) 09:51, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Creation of a new Page.
[edit]I just created a new Page titled Bhaktababa, which is about one famous Saint of the western districts of West Bengal, India. Everyone is invited to supply any additional informational on the page. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 10:40, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Notability of Bhaktababa
[edit]A tag has been placed on Bhaktababa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Julia Rossi (talk) 09:47, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Sock Puppetry
[edit]Dear Anirban,
Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy the place. I have a few comments to make and it is important that you note them down:
- It is unnacceptable to use more than one account for no particular constructive purpose (see WP:SOCK).
- Please also don't think that giving other users barnstars will give you the right to misbehave [1].
- Please do not harass other editors [2]. By this, I mean, don't try to fool admins into thinking that you haven't committed sock puppetry. You may not know this, because you are a new user, but we have large amounts of evidence that you are the IP that you denied to be. Moreover, the IP you logged out and edited with could just well have been with a different computer network.
- Please see Wikipedia talk:Reference_desk#Sock puppet drama. Your behaviour is being discussed there.
As Wikipedians, we want to make you as welcome as possible here. But it is important to understand that your behaviour thus far has not been completely appropriate. I hope you understand this (I don't want to be convinced otherwise; this message is just my 2 cents in the matter).
P.S Welcome to Wikipedia! :

I understand Sir, thank you for rendering your hand of cooperation. Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 13:47, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- That is OK (there is no need to call me (or anyone in Wikipedia) sir, by the way). But it is important to understand that further abuse of your editing privileges will result in a (possibly permanent) block. This is not up to me, but it seems that the community have agreed on it. --PST 17:32, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, It is my habit to address my elders as Sir. So, please allow me to repeat the same (that is to call you "Sir"). I need your advice on a matter, that is, am I permitted to enrich my User:Page with riddles and shortcuts of Maths, Science and Computing? I maen, is it against the Policies of Wkipedia? If not, then may I do it? Anirban16chatterjee (talk) 19:52, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- That is fine as long as you don't have anything offensive on your user page. It is also fine to call people "sir" if you mean it (and not just doing it to get other people's friendship). So far, it seems that you don't mean it. --PST 21:56, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Bhaktababa
[edit]I have nominated Bhaktababa, an article that you created, for deletion. On wikipedia , These above two pages are far older than the present article [Brahman]
References of above titles are also available on New York site - http://www.printsasia.com/BookDetails.aspx?Id=445813482
Meanwhile, Can your good selves in Wiki Project Indian Community re-create a precise pages on [Naresh Sonee] & his book [Brahmand Pujan] – [Brahmaand Pujan] . However, Sonee is the writer of this book [Brahmand Pujan] written in 1999 . registered with Government of India- HRRD. Details of the registration is provided here on http://brhmaandpujanbook.tripod.com/ . More than sufficient, news and reviews are there on http://brhmaandpujan-news-reviews.tripod.com/
Since 5-6 yrs, for one or the other reason pages of [Naresh Sonee] & [Brahmand Pujan] are faced by communal bias from outside India so these articles over and again get deleted here in Wikipedia for minor reasons. However, many hits of - Naresh Sonee reflects on google search engine also. So, I request Wiki Indian community to kindly come forward and generously help these two pages to grow, as I am fed up to fight my case alone here [left] and moved out long back. Meanwhile, such an important info/issue on ‘Indian literature’ which adds & spell ‘new meaning /dimension’ to Brahman -should it stay lost else ignored? Your community panel has to judge at last.
Myself, will not be on Wikipedia, for the same i apologise, but- pls. help these two pages to get reinstalled, reap, sow and grow, if you too feel so, I appeal to do this munificent favour. Regards- Dralansun (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:25, 27 December 2010 (UTC).

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest
[edit]Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.
As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.
If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.
You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:06, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
