Work Safe article
[edit]Hello Andrewreitzel. Your question on my talk page was as follows:
- Hello, apparently you reviewed my submission for a WorkSafe entry and its submission has been declined. I cannot find any reasoning for this and would like to know why? I have a business called WorkSafe and the page is simply information about the business.
- This is precisely why it was declined. Wikipedia is not a business directory or a free web hosting cite for posting information about one's business - it's an online encyclopedia. If you click on the link to your article in the blue decline box above, it will take you to your article. The reasons why I declined your article are stated in the pink box at the very top of the article. This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.
There, in fact, were no references at all from third party sources in relation to the information in your article. If your company and/or its products have not been discussed in a range of independent published sources then it will not meet the notability requirements in order to become a Wikipedia article. The only source you provided was the company's own website which is considered neither independent nor reliable.
Further, by writing an article about your own company you run the risk of violating Wikipedia's policy regarding conflicts of interest -- this page contains the following guidance:
This page in a nutshell: Do not edit Wikipedia to promote your own interests, or those of other individuals or of organizations, including employers. Do not write about these things unless you are certain that a neutral editor would agree that your edits improve Wikipedia. |
A Wikipedia conflict of interest (COI) is an incompatibility between the aim of Wikipedia, which is to produce a neutral, reliably sourced encyclopedia, and the aims of an individual editor. COI editing involves contributing to Wikipedia in order to promote your own interests or those of other individuals, companies, or groups. When advancing outside interests is more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest.
I hope I have answered your question, but should you require further assistance please contact me at Snowysusan (talk) 15:47, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
