Hawes Brothers

[edit]

Hi you made a change to Hawes Brothers. Where did you find this? Hawes Brothers were at Morden, as per https://mertonhistoricalsociety.org.uk/bulletin-209/. The only evidence I can find of clapton Junction is at 87 Upper Clapton Road, in the British Food Journal, (Volume 47 Issue 2 British Food Journal Volume 47 Issue 2 1945) but this was a grocers. On my research with UDS, it only says it was in South London. Thanks Davidstewartharvey (talk) 20:42, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I found an advertisement for Hawes Brothers (The South London Wool Warehouse Limited) of Clapham Junction. I think this is the UDS founding member store Hawes Brothers. In 'Fine Silks & Oak Counters' founding seven stores of UDS are described as 'from Clapham to Sevenoaks' and I think this might be the Clapham one. AndrewSE19 (talk) 00:38, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think? I could be wrong. AndrewSE19 (talk) 00:44, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have done further digging under Hawes Bros instead of Hawes Brothers. There seems to have been 3 businesses with the same name. A Grocers with branches across London, a gents outfitters in Hendin and the draper/department store with branches in St Johns Road, Clapham Junction and Morden! I have amended the page and added the ref from British Newspapers. Another one solved!Davidstewartharvey (talk) 22:37, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

House of fraser changes

[edit]

Hi.

You made changes to House of Fraser that removed referenced history, and added non referenced history. This company is existing so comes under Wikipedia rules for companies, which are tougher. Statements regarding the Southend branch were inaccurate. The Southend store was known as J R Roberts Stores [1] as the picture shows. Secondly the store moved to the former location of Percy Ravens, which still continued as a business moving to a new building at London Road. The building itself was built for Ravens[1] and Lowe & Hoad was a ironmongers in a previous building at the same site.Davidstewartharvey (talk) 08:13, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. AndrewSE19 (talk) 23:05, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know that J R Roberts were in Nelson Street before moving to High Street.
I knew that Ravens had altered the premises in High Street, mainly adding a new frontage.
Lowe & Hoad were complete house furnishers aswell as ironmongers. AndrewSE19 (talk) 23:15, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the bits you had put in that could be referencedDavidstewartharvey (talk) 09:42, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
