To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}}
on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.
Please remember to:
- Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes
~~~~
at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp. - Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
COI etc as I mentioned
[edit]Heya I hope you are using your talk page. I did not want you to think I was admoninishing you on the Tree of Life discussion. I was not. I was bringing up points we as academics need to be careful with. Look through the discussion I have never said use this name or that name, I have just generally supported or spoken against things in general and in principal as it goes. This is me avoiding NPoV and COI. You did well by declaring your interest, ie you are a paleo, professional and this declaeres both your COI and NPoV but the thing you did I felt it important to mention was when you used the definitions per academia of COI to discuss the issue per Wikimedia Foundation. Thats where you were getting close to crossing a line and I wanted to pull you back from that before someone assumed you were being elitist or something. Which is not a good look. You can of course comment, just always think that as a publishing academic you have a vested interest under the Wikimedia Policy, as such always keep that in your mind and always make it clear. Particularly if you cite papers you wrote. Cheers Scott Thomson (Faendalimas) talk 02:27, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- Oh thanks for the DM. Yeah I got your point, perhaps I was the one that did not make it clear as English is not my main language. I do thank your for the help as I did not knew the Wiki definition of COI was much stricter than I expected. I do appreciate your gidence if I get further involved, furthermore in subjects close to my research focus :) André O Fonseca (talk) 21:30, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- its all cool, feel free to use whichever language is easiest for you I am used to working with multiple languages. As an Ombud I have to work with every wiki in any language. I am a native english speaker but live in Brazil. Feel free to contact me if you want help on anything. I am also a Paleontologist and Taxonomist. Associated closely with the ICZN and Secretary of the IUBS Global Species List Working Group so I can probably help you on here if you need it.
