Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, AndhanaH, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. Virginia Abramovich

[edit]

Major revisions needed.

  • Nice work finding an important filmmaker who is not yet on Wikipedia. However, major revisions are needed before you move this work to mainspace.
  • These sources are not independent and thus may not be enough to establish her notability. Use the subscription databases through the library website to find reliable and independent secondary sources about her.
  • Add a lead section before “Career” that summarizes her most important achievements without promotional language.
  • Film titles in italics not quotation marks.
  • Add a Filmography and a table that lists the awards her films have won.
  • Remove all promotional language, like “an exceptional education history,” “great career,” and “show that anyone can achieve their goals.”
  • Add more information about each of her projects.

Notes

[edit]

Hi! This needs a lot of work.

  • The draft has a lot of promotional language, so much so that if this was moved live it would run a serious risk of being mistaken as a promotional article, which would raise its chances of getting deleted. You want to avoid language such as "great" as well as wording like "passion for", as these are seen a point of view and PR language.
A general rule of thumb is to avoid any language that could be seen as a subjective statement, as not everyone will have the same opinion on a given topic. Subjective and promotional language also poses issues of neutrality, as an article that comes across as leaning towards one direction or another won't be able to be neutral. I've cleaned up much of this, but there is still promotional language left to clean.
  • Avoid using the director's first name - the general guideline on Wikipedia is to use the last name unless it's an article discussing many people or they're widely known under a single name ala Madonna or Cher.
  • This should be formatted to be more along the lines of how Wikipedia has articles set up. I'll try and do some editing to create the sections that Wikipedia tends to use in biography articles. I also recommend listing the films by name rather than listing it in prose format, unless there is a lot of coverage for her films and their production.
  • This needs more sourcing, particularly sourcing that can establish notability such as news articles about the director and her films or coverage in scholarly and academic sources. Keep in mind that what you've used are routine database listings. Database listings are considered to be routine, so they can't establish notability in and of themselves. I'm honestly concerned that she may not pass notability guidelines at this point in time. She does have awards, but keep in mind that not all awards are considered major enough to show notability for someone, either in part or in full. The best way to determine if an award is notable is to see what type of coverage is out there of the award.

I hope this helps. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:44, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Virginia Abramovich

[edit]

Hello, AndhanaH,

Thank you for creating Virginia Abramovich.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Thank you for your new article on Virginia Abramovich, but I recommend finding more evidence of her notability. It is true that she won some awards, but those awards may not be notable in themselves if the ceremonies do not attract reliable media interest.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Doomsdayer520}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.
