Richard Hill

Hi Amandajm, Richard Hill (clergyman) is now published. I have listed it for DYK. Will put St James' Church up for Peer Review next and maybe start on Carr Smith. I would like to add an image of the St Michael stained glass window next to the one of St James as a pair the way you did with the two memorials. Have to check out how that looks. Images

Hi Amandajm, I know I haven't got the images right in the St James' article yet - in particular, the interior ones now need to be re-arranged. I have tried lots of different ways with the historical images but need to stop for the moment. Have not finished. I especially like the early scenes of Sydney in which the church is visible - they show how it seems always to have been there and how distinctive it would have been. Also, a vision of Sydney with for instance, sheep grazing, gives an wonderful insight, as does the view of early King Street with the embryonic streets that turned into today's major streets shown on the left. More text can be added to support this history and I will get to that. I am trying to give an impression of continuity by pairing old and new images ( as well as adding the early views), having after much hunting around discovered some that seem to me to be really historically important and enlightening. What's the plan?

I have added the image of the circular railing as discussed but of course, the layout is not good now. What's the plan? Where should it go? I don't suppose you think an image of the brass eagle lectern should be added to complete the row of interior pictures? Oh, and I added a portrait of Micklem to his article. Cross purposes

Here's what I mean by "cross purposes"—you're lecturing me on why the replica is inappropriate, when, if you scroll up on the Middle Ages talk page, you'll see that I long ago took exactly that position.

More "cross purposes": "Put up any genuine object, and it will solve the problem caused by this one."—sounds reasonable when and only when you buy the axiom that it is a problem. I do. You do. Several other editors do—and several other editors don't. Until you convince those editors who don't think it's a problem (quite a few of them) that it is a problem, then your very statements are gibberish to them. Looks like Johnbod, Peter Isotalo, and Modernist at the very least are intent on keeping the Sutton Hoo replica. Ealdgyth seems more flexible, but I don't think she buys that the replica is actually inappropriate. It doesn't sound like Mike Christie or Nev1 do, either.

Until you convince them that the helmet is inappropriate (rather than merely less than ideal), you'll keep talking in circles, each side getting more frustrated at the other.
