Your post
[edit]Hi there! With regard to your post at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. You posted in the right section, and in good faith, but as a rule, it's not a problem that they keep removing warnings. We have the ability to check the page's history, and issue blocks as appropriate. It's generally accepted that if they remove the warnings, it's simply proof that they've read and understood them. Because you've got the right idea, though, please accept this, from one user to another:
The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar | ||
Having checked your edits, I've noticed that you fight vandalism more than about 98% of the users I've seen. I'm very, very impressed, and I hope you keep up the good work. Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 19:36, 17 October 2008 (UTC) |
Alleged Spam
[edit]I received your note claiming that I was "spamming" Wikipedia. I reviewed the spam rules and do not understand why you would say such a thing.
My website offers information on over 2400 musicians. The links I placed were to specific free information about each of them.
I see that Wikipedia permits IMDB, All Music Group and other commerical websites to post on as many pages as they like.
Wikipedia also uses a lot of information from my site. The least Wikipedia can do is permit links back to the source information.
MasterRecs (talk) 19:48, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- This is an issue with a neutral point of view and neutrality in general. You represent your company and are making direct links to each musician's profile on your page. It's feel a little bit like a conflict of interest to me. If an article uses information from your page, it SHOULD be cited and linked to in that case, per references guidelines; there's no need for an external link for it. Knippschild (talk) 19:51, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Does this mean we are in agreement that I am not spamming Wikipedia? I hope so.
Am sure you know how difficult it is to ensure that all your users ask and receive permission before posting information from other sites. I can't possibly monitor 2400 pages and keep up my site as well so appreciate your understanding of my use of links.
MasterRecs (talk) 19:56, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- I am not sure if you understood me correctly. Because you are the operator of the website, there's a bit of conflict of interest. Are you trying to boost your stats and hits or trying to improve Wikipedia as a whole? Also, because that information is posted publicly, I don't believe people need permission to CITE it. Knippschild (talk) 20:00, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
I was trying to add additional information about each artist. My site ranks #3 on Google right below Wikipedia so my stats are very good.
Considering how often I ran into IMDB as an external link while adding links to my site, I believe IMDB is adding those listings--as are other site owners and oeprators.
Simply because something is posted publicly does not mean that it is okay to use it without permission. Copyright and intellectual property laws apply to the internet as well as other forms of distribution like music files or playing a song on the radio. Someone still created the work and deserves credit for it.
71.246.251.242 (talk) 22:02, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- which.. is why you cite your sources. Like I said. Knippschild (talk) 22:15, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- You missed the bit about avoiding linking to your own site and the conflict of interest guideline. Oh, and you know why Wikipedia uses a lot of information from your site? It's because you added it. MER-C 02:23, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: Landmark
[edit]Hi there, you reverted my edit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landmark+Education?diff=246280095 due to supposed NPOV but having read the article referenced I think the edit is appropriate. Please read the article and suggest a better revision if you think fit --- but note that the quote as it appears is cherry-picked and does not reflect the tone of the referenced article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.253.156.33 (talk) 13:29, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps this is better. Knippschild (talk) 13:46, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Better indeed, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.253.156.33 (talk) 13:48, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Knippschild - with respect, I would suggest that the edit (even in your toned-down form) is inappropriate and should be reverted as IMHO it violates WP:UNDUE WEIGHT. For one thing, it is an expression of opinion rather than fact; and furthermore the opinion of a single individual with no particular claim to expertise in the subject. Secondly, it is an atypical quote from the article which does not capture the overall thrust (even the editor admits it was "cherry-picked"); for example Badt also says "I did experience my own breakthroughs. I was glad I went. I did see how I used my past in my future; I did contemplate the rackets I laid on my friends and family. I thought overall this was a healthy experience.", and "There was nothing too objectionable about a program that has as a result reconciliation in relationships, as well as a new commitment to responsibility for one's present. Philosophically, the concepts are too sensible to be controversial."
- Furthermore, I would suggest that we should view with caution the edits of unregistered IP editors on controversial subjects.
- The Landmark Education article has been the subject of repeated edit wars and tendentious editing and is sorely in need of oversight from a non-partisan observer. DaveApter (talk) 17:52, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey there, Alpha 4615! Happy new Gregorian year. All the best for the new year, both towards you and your family and friends too. I know that I am the only person lonely enough to be running this thing as the new year is ushered in, but meh, what are you going to do. I like to keep my templated messages in a satisfactorily melancholy tone. ;)
Congratulations to Coren, Wizardman, Vassyana, Carcharoth, Jayvdb, Casliber, Risker, Roger Davies, Cool Hand Luke and Rlevse, who were all appointed to the Arbitration Committee after the ArbCom elections. I am sure I am but a voice of many when I say I trust the aforementioned users to improve the committee, each in their own way, as listed within their respective election statements. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to update the 2009 article, heh. Best wishes, neuro(talk) 00:51, 1 January 2009 (UTC) |

- Not a problem. Might I suggest filing an abuse report with the actual owner of those IPs, since this qualifies in my opinion as a network administrator as a gross abuse of resources. Knippschild (talk)

- Also, as best practice, you should avoid non admin closures on AfDs you've participated in... the whole conflict of interest bit. Wouldn't have made a difference in this case, just a friendly reminder. Townlake (talk) 00:23, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't understand why you reverted my edit of the Acid Bath page. I wasn't vandalizing, please explain what I did wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.91.124.227 (talk) 03:21, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- First off, please sign your posts. Also you removed a large section of text from an article without an article summary. Also looking at the revision, it's quite possible that the text you removed should've been there. Also when your revisions are previously reverted by another editor, it makes it more suspicious and more likely to be reverted. Please use edit summaries to prevent these type of things in the future. Alpha 4615 (talk) 03:30, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

To prevent people from impersonating Wikipedia users to gain access to ACC, we require all requests to be verified by the requesting user. These are the details:

You have been approved to use the Internal Account Creation Interface! Some important notes before you get started:

- If you end up hitting the 6 accounts-per-day limit, you can request the Account Creator userright from RFPERM. However, like access to the interface itself, it can be revoked if abused.
Now that you have read the generic warnings, please read (or re-read if you have read it already) the tool's documentation page which includes a link to the tool's request-filling interface. If you ever need any help, I myself am an interface admin and developer, so feel free to drop me a line on my talk page if you need help, or would like a new welcome template added to the autowelcome feature!
