Category sorting
[edit]Please stop messing up the sorting of categories, as you have just done at Gergely Sárközy and Pablo Márquez and who knows how many more. Please fix the ones you have done wrong. Gene Nygaard 12:44, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Gene Nygaard, next time try explaining the rationale behind things: It would have been good if you'd have mentioned: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(standard_letters_with_diacritics)#Category_sort_key 14:21, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you can read Wikipedia:Categorization, too. And some other naming convention pages. Unicode number order doesn't give us proper English indexing except in the simple cases (and even then, we almost always want to start with an uppercase letter to make the indexing case insensitive--that's a lot easier to do than to change the zillions which start with an uppercase letter, especially since initial capitalization is turned on in this Wikipedia). For that matter, though not relevant to this Wikipedia, it doesn't give us proper indexing in any other language, either. Gene Nygaard 14:31, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Categories
[edit]First of all if I wanted to search for someone on Wikipedia without the full name I would do this. The search capability of Wikipedia is terrible. I would never look through categories to try and find someone and I suspect that a person coming to Wikipedia would have done so by the Google search and would not know much about the categories. A more likely search would be Classical guitar which has a link to List of classical guitarists, where "Boris Gaquere" is absent. The idea of subcategories is to reduce the number in the main category. In the case of classical guitarists it's not too bad because they all fit on one page, but in that case why even bother with the subcategories. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 10:44, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message. I see why you're doing what you are doing, but it doesn't fit with the prevailing view on WP. My edit summary for John Williams (guitarist) made my point, I think: "removing Category:Classical guitarists as already in correct sub-categories: see WP:CAT#Some_general_guidelines no.3 and Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Categorization". The idea of the classification system is to put people in as deep a category as possible to avoid duplication. According to the general system for musicians, as found for other instruments (though not always fully put into practice) Category:Classical guitarists should be empty of individual names, which should be in nationality sub-categories. I'll have a look at it now. Bencherlite 17:44, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
External links
[edit]I made a number of changes to your pages re: removing commercial sites. A number of websites you placed on your articles are to commercial companies for the sales of CDs or other products. I also nominated two articles for deletion as they were nothing more than collections of links to commercial sites. Please review What Wikipedia is not and external link guidelines. I don't believe the additions were made with the intent of trying to promote sales for the products, but the effect is the same. Montco 03:28, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:AguadoFossa.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:AguadoFossa.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. - AWeenieMan (talk) 18:35, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Dukic operatres.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Dukic operatres.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello AlonsoAlfons! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 290 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
