University Main Library training session 28.04.2016
[edit]Hello again, AliciaForsberg!
Thank you so much for taking part in the training session the other day. I hope that you enjoyed it and that we'll see you on Wiki again soon.
Now that you've learned the basics of editing using Wikipedia’s Visual Editor, I hope that you'll stay logged in and edit or create more articles. I've added some booklets and some links below that you may find useful. Sorry we ran out of time but I'm very happy to discuss anything you care to know about via email or in person.
-
How universities are teaching with Wikipedia
-
Editing Wikipedia brochure
-
Instructor Basics, How to use Wikipedia as a teaching tool
-
Illustrating Wikipedia brochure
If you're not feeling bold enough to write an (other) article straight away, why not try a small edit first, or adding a link? Don't worry about being perfect, Wiki is a constantly evolving entity. Fortunately there's a whole team of editors just like you who can help.
You can't break Wikipedia, but in case you're still nervous here are some pages that you might find helpful, especially the first one which covers the main things to remember about using Visual Editor.
- Visual Editor user guide
- Is your topic notable enough for an article?
- Be Bold!
- Don't let grumpy users scare you off.
- Learn from others
- How to write a great article
- A simplified manual of style
The University of Edinburgh are also looking into running lots more edit-a-thons over the course of the residency – details are still to be confirmed but will be updated on my project page here: Wikipedia:University_of_Edinburgh
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!
Remember, if you are writing on a talk page, please sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date.

Wiki meet
[edit]You are cordially invited to the next Edinburgh Wiki Meetup Next: Thurs 5 May 2016, 6-8pm, National Library of Scotland, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1EW |
Hi, you are cordially invited to our next ScotWiki meetup.
The National Library of Scotland is extremely accessible via train for those travelling from outside the city, and via bus for Edinburgh residents. Its visitor centre offers food, drinks, and WiFi and should give us plenty of room to meet and have a chat after work!

Hopefully see you there, Stinglehammer (talk) 11:32, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
