Stupid dates war on Steven Gerrard page

Linking every date on a page does absolutely nothing to help the clarity or level of information on a page. Is every date on this page linked? No. If I do 5 tildes does it give a linked date? No. Does saying "Steven Gerrard scored a goal on 4 July", which I could then click and think "hey that's American Independence Day, cool!" add anything to Steven Gerrard? No.

It's dumb. That's why I reverted all dates that weren't birthdates. The link to date format doesn't mention anything about linking every possible date. I am going to revert Steven Gerrard and leave this message on his talk page. aLii 19:21, 11 May 2006 (UTC) (note it isn't linked!!!)

The point is not whether you think it is dumb or stupid. The point is to write articles to a high standard within Wikipedia's guidelines. By formatting dates that contain days, months and years enable the program's software to sort the dates according to a user's preferences. I have already asked you to visit WP:DATE and Help:Preferences#Date_format which support my reasons. Your reasons of dumb, stupid and bold text does little to strengthen your case. In the light of this, I have reverted as per wikipedia guidelines. Alias Flood 19:33, 11 May 2006 (UTC) (posted on user's talk page and in article's talk page}

Note for reference. This happened in aLii's early days at Wikipedia and was not really a war. aLii delinked all of the dates in the article not realising the style guideline and the differences that were governed in users' preferences. The sequence started with aLii's Making every date is pointless and stupid, so I reverted it followed by my Dates formatted as per WP:DATE - please see style guideline and http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Preferences#Date_format rather than unformat, a revert by aLii's No edit summary, and my Revert to revision 52702752 using popups which took place during the conversation here and on that article's talk page. I am pleased to say that it ended amicably. Alias Flood 23:37, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

This country

Sorry, I feel a bit embarassed, but thought you'd like to know that 'this country' didnt mean 'the one I am in', but the one I had just referred to (i.e., the USA). Your version is clearer, though, thanks. 08:38, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Premier League Winners

I don't know what you meant by your query in the FA Premier League talk page, however if it's any help, I removed the 'titles won' column several times in the past because it was widening the page causing me to horizontally scroll across. All the best. Mark272 17:56, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Combine

I'm sorry, but I don't think the revert on the Combine (Half-Life 2) page's intro was warranted. The parts I had corrected were original research, and inaccurate to boot. The link in the original version does not actually lead to a source, and the quote in question was misinterpreted in a way that isn't grammatically correct. Am I missing something? 72.57.42.230 01:03, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

I reverted as part of Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol due to the removal of large portions of text without explanation or discussion on that article's talk page. Please feel free to start a discussion on the article's talk page in this respect. I hope that this clarifies the situation. -- Alias Flood 01:09, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
I actually had noted the change in the talk page, at the bottom of "Combine invasion of Xen" section. I'll make a more prominent and detailed post this time. 72.57.42.230 01:18, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. -- Alias Flood 01:16, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Your edit to Pompeii

Your recent edit to Pompeii was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to recognize and repair vandalism to Wikipedia articles. If the bot reverted a legitimate edit, please accept my humble creator's apologies – if you bring it to the attention of the bot's owner, we may be able to improve its behavior. Click here for frequently asked questions about the bot and this warning. // Tawkerbot2 01:07, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Tawkerbot2. It seems that, in an effort to thawrt vandalism by 218.185.69.177, we reverted each other to previously vandalised pages. I have reverted further now to erase the vandalism and I have also warned the ip vandal. -- Alias Flood 01:19, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Tawkerbot2 doesn't catch it sometimes when two users tag team vandalise, its one of the few limitations of the bot, thanks for fixing it :) -- Tawker 01:45, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank You!

Thankl you for the warm greeting! I hope you can help me out in the future! (SKITTLES 23:53, 3 June 2006 (UTC))

Penis size comment: I was hoping someone could verify that as I've heard it to be true by many people in the music business. (User:Elcella)

Thank you for understanding. One of the keys to writing good encyclopedia articles is to understand that they should refer only to facts, assertions, theories, ideas, claims, opinions, and arguments that have already been published by reputable publishers. As counterintuitive as it may seem, the threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. Wikipedia concerns itself with verifiable information from reliable sources. If you are able to find such information in respect of matters relating to the Jimi Hendrix article (where I deleted your comment on his penis size and left you a note), I am certain that myself and all other editors would be only too happy to discuss its suitability and notability for inclusion in that article. Please also note that it is etiquette to archive talk pages rather than delete them. Please see Talk_pages#Etiquette. Thank you -- Alias Flood 03:46, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Football AID 4 June - 10 June

Thank you for participating in the Football AID vote this week.

UEFA Cup has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.

Ok, so I think that I was actually talking with aIias flood, that guy who *just* got banned for impersonating you... Anyway would you care to comment on the matter at hand anyway? See Talk:Steven Gerrard. aLii 16:44, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

aLii. Thank you for your note. I have now commented on the talk page hence:
Firstly, I want to confirm that the AIias Flood that impersonated me was not me. I am the more conventional spelling of ALias Flood The imposter has now been banned. Now onto something much more important, this article and the external links it contains. As I have stated on this talk page under External Links (below), my understanding is that the litmus test should be that the information contained in the external link should enhance or confirm the details given in the article as well as being reliable, reputable and having a degree of longevity. Fan sites, other than the main official site, and fanlistings are generally not informative and should not ordinarily be included. My view is that this should also apply to forums. WP:EL gives more details on this. I would add that I applaud the webmaster of the unofficial website in question for their dedication but, as editors, we must be careful not to let Wikipedia become a repository for links WP:NOT. If the information on a website is notable, reliable and has a high degree of permanence, then let us put it into the article and cite that url as its source. Fan websites and fanlistings, by their very nature, do not portray a neutral point of view WP:NPOV and will rarely merit inclusion in my opinion. -- Alias Flood 02:02, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

I had to remove this because everything that was written there was revisionist fascist bullshit --212.200.199.83 15:06, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Please address matters on the talk page of the article. Simply blanking sections without any explantion, even in the edit summary, is considered vandalism. Hence my reverting you. -- Alias Flood 15:10, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

stuff

I guess I'm not allowed to leave stupid messages for my friends on their talk pages anymore. I wasn't aware this was an issue! I guess next time I'll just tell him on AIM or whatever!

Also I'm not too worried about being blocked from editing without further warning because I don't ever do anything with my account except edit pokemon pages anyway!

You left a message on a User's talk page saying "SPUI YOUR TALK PAGE SUCKS". Those who watch for vandalism will not be able to recognise this as a "message" for a "friend", especially when posted from an ip address. Please also see Wikipedia is not a social networking site. Thank you for understanding. Alias Flood 20:26, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Welcome

Hello Allias Flood. Thank you very much for your warm words of welcome! Little by little I found my way at Wikipedia, a wonderful project to share knowledge together between people in this world. I hope this is the right way, to sent you a message. By the way, I am a native speaker of the Dutch language. If there is ever something to translate, or find out here, please contact me. Much thanks again for your words of welcome, Rob van Doorn

skillful

Just noticed you changed your spelling of "skillfull" → "skillful". I would still consider that wrong, as it's the American spelling. With 3 "L"s it's the US English spelling, which I can tell you might dislike. "skilful" (with just 2 "L"s) is the English version. [1]
SLUMGUM  yap  stalk  00:02, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Slumgum,
Your note made me smile and, I confess, puzzle over the etymology of the word. I must confess to finding words a lot of fun in that our language is ever evolving which both helps and hinders communication. Hopefully the former rather than the latter. You are right, however, my normal instinctive spelling would have been for the double "l" rather than the treble "l" but I have no problem with N. American spellings; indeed, they make the language richer. In short ("Too late!" the invisible crowd silently roared), I shall not trust this Firefox extension again. :-) Regards -- Alias Flood 00:14, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, but a little curious

I really appreciate the words of welcome you posted on my user discussion page, those links will certainly be handy! But I am a little curious as to how you found me, I'm not the most 'vocal' person and I've only made brief appearances on wikipedia. Thanks, again --Colourblind 01:54, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

As well as editing, I like to help Wikipedia by reverting vandalism and I am a recent changes patroller. In doing this, I see changes across the wide spectrum of Wikipedia along with the names or ip addresses of those that make changes. If I see someone with a name showing a red talk link, I like to welcome them and offer them some links that I have found useful in my time here. Again, welcome. -- Alias Flood 02:21, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Football AID 18 June - 24 June

Thank you for participating in the Football AID vote this week.

Netherlands national football team has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.

FIFA

I made those changes on FIFA, because it is a) Sepp Blatter (two P's), and b) "installment" is spelled just like that with two L's. Is accuracy something that you strive for on this site, or am I wrong? Formerly 71.49.20.210Tlhcubsjaz 05:10, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello Tlhcubsjaz,
Thank you for your note and welcome to Wikipedia.
I agree that Sepp Blatter should be spelt with two Ps and I did not alter that spelling. You also changed the word "instalment" (the English spelling) to "installment" (the American spelling) which I reverted. This was my reason for referring you to our welcome page. Please also read one of our several Manuals of Style on National varieties of English. This explains that a nationally predominant form should be used in each article but there is no preference among the major national varieties of English. Disputes over style issues refers to an occasion where Wikipedia's Arbitration Committee ruled that, when either of two styles is acceptable, it is inappropriate for a Wikipedia editor to change from one style to another unless there is some substantial reason for the change. It continues by giving an example of a British spelling as opposed to American spelling, and states it would be wrong to switch simply to change styles. I am reverting the spelling to that of the previous editor and I hope that my reasons for doing this are now clearer to you.
I hope you like Wikipedia and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Fair enough. I just was reading the article, and as a former newspaper copy editor, I just usually fix any misspellings I see. It's been five years since I've been to England, and I didn't realize there was an English version of 'instal/lment'. My apologies. Tlhcubsjaz 05:25, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Whoops... never worked out how to sign contributions (since I've only ever contributed to the discussion of the position of Team America in the FIFA-Coca-Cola 'world rankings').

Thanks for the rap on the knuckles - I guess I'll 'create an account', and become more recognizable (for anyone who cares) in future.

Goodnight,

Excellent comment

After reading the somewhat contentious back and forth editor in-fighting on the Wikipedia_talk:Verifiability page while I was trying to better understand some of the background on certain aspects of the Policy, it was such a refreshing thing to come across your wonderful comment. Special and worthwhile, indeed! Thanks for that! Dreadlocke 06:18, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
