He has now been blocked for three days. He may think he can get another computer, but most schools (at least in my experience) assign each user account or block of user accounts the same IP. But if he does, and continues, we can semi-protect your userpage if he keeps targeting it. And if he still tries, we can call the school up about this. Daniel Case 18:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
I extended the block to a week for the sockpuppetry. His user talk page, which he kept on vandalizing, has now been semi-protected. Daniel Case 01:53, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, that's a pretty clear-cut violation of WP:NLT. I'll warn him on that one (he's gonna love it). Daniel Case 17:44, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
I have restored his old talk page and added warnings for the new offenses. I appreciate the effort to try and educate him but, I think he's determined to do things his way, not Wikipedia's (I mean, sockpuppetry, legal threats, personal attacks, page blanking ... all over a few weeks? Not someone showing much reason why good faith should be reassumed). Daniel Case 18:16, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

I've just added more information to the version in Spanish. I think it would be useful in this Wikipedia. Best regards, Alpertron 03:00, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks.
The beauty of being bold with a current event that's over-covered is that a vandal won't revert it, and if an established editor thinks I've gone too far (it has happened) then the onus is on them to rewrite it. Either way the article improves. BeL1EveR 17:15, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi Alex. Beşiktaş's official website has confirmed the deal between the club and Higuain. I'm not sure if you can understand Turkish but check this out: http://www.bjk.com.tr/tr/haberler.php?h_no=10617
In this page, the club announces that Higuain signed a 3 year contract. You can see the picture of him in BJK uniform. And tomorrow, he'll land in Turkey.
I'm fully aware that WP is a serious volunteer source, not a magazine by any means and I'm trying to contribute on sports subjects as much as I can. Take care.. tamburello
Jayhowardl
I read the page on Paul Rudnick and felt the description of him as a gay screenwriter was very limiting and marginalizing. I felt he should be described as a screenwriter. He could be described later on in the article as being gay. Other authors are not described as "straight screenwriters". Looking back I see that the first edit I made was overdone. The second edit, however, to describe him merely as a screenwriter seemed to me a matter of style, and should not qualify as vandalism. Please let me know your thoughts. Jayhowardl 01:18, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be constructive to mention that a canyon is an example of a natural geological trench, formed by the flowing of a river, also the creation of a canyon results in the river becoming entrenched. 84.194.232.191 17:30, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

With regards to this edit, which you reverted and warned the IP for, surely a first level warning is better than a second level one? Picaroon (t) 20:44, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Sorry about the mistaken revert
I see you made a note about my recent (and sleep-deprivation-induced) edit to The Sign of the Four. Perhaps a little explanation would help. I have been following an editor who has been making a few changes that border on vandalism. I noticed that he had changed the page The Sign of the Four, and when I looked at the edit, I noticed that it said something about how Sherlock Holmes was totally awesome or something, and didn't notice that that text that had been removed, not added. When I made the change, I saw that the text was in the article, so I immediately reverted the change. I do apologize for the mistake. superlusertc 2007 August 26, 21:22 (UTC)
Mike Seidel vandalism
Alex the edit to the Mike Seidel article on eating more fish than a seal was made by my 9-year-old brother. I am sorry about the vandalism, but what he said is almost true although irrelevant.162.83.62.21 03:01, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Pavarotti
Luciano Pavarotti has in fact died and so a revert you made was unwarranted. You should remove your warning from the user's talk page seeing as it was a constructive edit. Although it is recent news, you should check sites out before you assume claims of death to be vandalism. Cheers. Wikipediarules2221 05:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- The Pavarotti death announcement was unsourced and premature IMO. When I saw it, I checked and all I found was that he was in the hospital in very bad shape, near imminent death. I thought it was an unsourced premature announcement so I reverted using a level 1 assuming no bad faith. I understand your comments and concern and have reverted the warning as you asked. Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 10:17, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
I have left a comment on the discussion page about your updating of the updated system. The new system used the bold to highlight whether that article has recently been checked. The articles now at the top were added in 2006 i think. Why have you deleted the bolding. I think i understand your system. Is it meant to be anything checked should be classed as new? It should probably have been discussed on the talk page first. Thanks Woodym555 17:27, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I gave the user a second warning based on the fact that he vandalized two pages within minutes of each other, but you are correct - I didn't realize he had only vandalized the talk page. Still want the second warning taken down? Extrema 05:16, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
My bad on the edit, I'm on Wikipedia rarely and somehow missed the huge warning at the top of your screen. I'll remove the second warning, as the user has since stopped vandalizing. Extrema 14:03, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Image source problem with Image:Almirante Brown.gif
This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Almirante Brown.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:16, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. - Your comment was "On tuesday september 11 Gazzetta dello Sport made known that he is the top earner in Italian soccer. According to the newspaper he earns 6 million dollar a year."
- This is not a properly cited comment. Just because you say Gazzetta dello Sport said it it does not make it so. You have to put a reference to the article saying so. Please read WP:CITE and repost. Also, please remember to sign your posts with four tildes at the ned. Thank you. Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 11:44, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Blanking one's own userpage
While doing vandalism patrol I noticed that you reverted and warned 141.150.206.25 for blanking his own user talk page. I thought that per WP:USER#Removal of warnings it was acceptable to remove warnings from one's own user page, and that doing so constituted evidence that the warning was read. Am I missing a conflicting policy? I'm new to the who vandalism patrol thing and want to make sure I'm handling similar situations properly. Thanks, --Clubjuggle 01:48, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- That's a fair enough interpretation, but I have a couple concerns with it, specifically:
- (1) In the case I referenced the person was given a second vandalism warning for blanking his own talk page. As I understand it, blanking one's own talk page, while frowned upon, is not in fact vandalism. My interpretation is that a warning is therefore inappropriate. I'm more than OK with being wrong on that point, but I'd like to know why I'm wrong.
- (2) Likewise, if the person does have the right to remove warnings from his own talk page, I can see reverting the warnings for the sake of noting the warnings in the edit summary ("rv blanking of 1st & 2nd level level vandalism notices") but if they then blank them again, is it really appropriate to revert it a second time?
- Again, I welcome any responses or corrections. I'm trying to learn. Thanks, --Clubjuggle 15:17, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Please refrain from reverting my user page to include your warning. It was noted, and has been deleted, which is m choice under WP policy. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.150.206.25 (talk) 05:45, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry... Why do you think that the links to www.mindelo.info are EL-spam? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.8.4.72 (talk) 21:22, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- It seems to be a tourist-agency related site trying to sell the Islands. It is owned by somebody in Mindelo-Cabo verde with servers in France, and the site is in French, I guess to sell to the Francophone market.
- It hosts a forum which is POV by definition
- It hosts thousands of photos, which maybe OK, unless it is copyrighted material
- If you post a site in one article, it might be Ok. You have posted this site to at least 8 or more articles, which starts to look suspicions and more like spam.
- If you think it should be posted, please discuss it in the Talk page for concensus to be formed. Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 21:59, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ok thanx for your answer: here are some informations: mindelo.info is NOT a tourist-agency website, it's a personal site, I don't have anything to sell except some GoogleAdsense to pay webhosting. OK for the forum. Photos are copyrighted/watermarked to avoid that commercial websites catch them. At last, I did not post 8 or more articles. Somebody did it and he did it badly: I've spent some hours these last days to fix the links which used to generate some 404 errors on my site for months. I don't like spam, I like Wiki, and I continue to think my site may be interesting for some people. Best regards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.8.4.72 (talk) 11:36, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Spellings on Kaká's Article
With regards to my changing the spelling of some words on Kaká's article.
I did that because the original version was British English. As far as I remember, the article has traditionally been in British English. The article had a mixture of the two types of spellings so I was just normalising them. Hairouna 01:31, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Unconstructive edits?
There seems to be a confusion? The history of eating snails as food along with its history in Europe and elsewhere was not subtitled under "eating of land snails." I organized it, how is that vandalism?
Okay, I looked, and I see something very odd, help me out here: This is what I did: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Snail&diff=157725700&oldid=157722062 This is what you reverted: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Snail&diff=157729707&oldid=157725700
This isn't correct. How did that information 'I BET HALF THIS INFO IS WRONG' appear between our edits? I did not do it, and I think that is clear. Can you explain? --Enzuru 00:14, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Your recent report to WP:AIV
Hi there, I've blocked the IP you reported to AIV. Just a quick note however, when reporting to AIV it's not really accepted that anonymous IP's are known as accounts let alone a vandalism only account. This rationale is only really applied to a registered editor who's sole aim is to disrupt Wikipedia, and having only vandalism edits to the account, we would then block the account indefinitely as a vandalism only account. As we are unsure if it's the same editor behind an IP address at any given time we cannot issue a permanent blocks to anonymous IP's. Any problems please don't hesitate to give me a shout. Khukri 09:47, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Alex, I see you've been doing some vandal fighting lately--have you looked at WP:TWINKLE? It's a collection of scripts that make warning and reporting users and tagging articles a lot easier.--SarekOfVulcan 18:04, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Huh. I don't know why you're getting a read-only page: when I go to Special:Mypage/monobook.js, it's a regular editable page, with a "beware of malicious scripts" message on the top. You can see mine at User:SarekOfVulcan/monobook.js. The one thing to watch out for with Twinkle is that for some (if not all) of the actions, you don't get to confirm them once you click on them.--SarekOfVulcan 21:49, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
IP addresses and vandalism reports
I declined the report of vandalism by 82.29.196.139 primarily because it had been two hours since he last edited. Further, he had committed no vandalism since receiving today's warning.
The problem with IP addresses is a clever vandal can recycle addresses quickly, if they're determined, so unless there's a pattern (e.g. always making a certain edit or in certain articles), I'm reluctant to block IP addresses quickly, because it might not be the vandal that I'm blocking. This is especially true with dynamic addresses and/or shared computers (e.g. school libraries), where there is no way to know if the user making edits today is the same person who was using that IP yesterday—or even an hour ago. —C.Fred (talk) 16:48, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

- Please stop vandalizing my Talk page. You have done enough damage already through your different sockpuppets. If you do not want to read Wikipedia's policies as you have already been directed to in various places (Alison's Talk page, your different socks talk pages, et al) then it is not much I can do for you. I will reiterate one last time:
- Do not attack other editors. Through one of your sockpuppets above you called me a bastard. That alone is enough to stop right here.
- Stop using socks.
- Stop vandalizing.
- Start signing your messages.
- Any statements or assertions you write on articles should be, as Ariel well said: "cited with reliable sources and not mere opinions or heresay".
- Any discussions on Juninho Pernambucano should be done at the article's talk page or at Wikipedia Project Football.
- Juninho's article is fine. Once your block is lifted and the article loses semi-protection, you can add constructive edits following the guidelines cited above.
- If you disregard Wikipedia's policies, then you will be blocked again.
- This case is closed and no more will be answered on it on this page. Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 21:36, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

What are you talking about? Please revert your own bad AND INACCURATE edit by the way (hint: READ the infobox instructions; see the stats table at the bottom of the article, or see this), and don't leave false accusations on my talkpage. What a joke that you go around accusing well established users of things they DID NOT DO. DON'T EVER REPEAT THIS BAD MISTAKE. AGAIN. Chensiyuan 14:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- Got your message. I rechecked and see it was a case of mistaken identity as the vandal was the one just before your edit. Sorry about that, mistakes happen and the warning was reverted. What you have to tone down a bit are your comments. Remember to be civil and also not to attack other editors. Your tone was harsher than needed. No need to shout as you did in your message. A simple: "I think you are mistaken, it wasn't me" would have sufficed. It is not "a joke that I go around accusing established users" as you put it. If you are an established user you should know about civility already. Sorry about the original mistake. Mistakes happen. Happy wiking. Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 18:39, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
