Images on wikipedia

[edit]

You will have noted that your attempt to link to an external photograph of Carol Vorderman did not work. External image linking is not permitted on wikipedia. The whole topic is a potential minefield.

Basically the only images permitted within a biography of a living person must be uploaded to wikipedia (see 'upload file' on far right toolbox link) but MUST have an acceptable copyright status. To use an image that already exists on the internet you MUST obtain permission from the copyright holder IN WRITING (ie. an email). The only other alternative is to upload an image you have taken yourself and are prepared to release under a Creative Commons licence into the public domain.

This is why so many biographies still lack a photo. Frustrating isn't it? 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 15:12, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
