Hi Team - I wonder if for this article it might work to have a section on how these prizes are being promoted and taken up by readers on social media (to demonstrate its impact). For example, the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize has dedicated pages on GoodReads (http://www.goodreads.com/award/show/10385-dorothy-livesay-poetry-prize and https://www.goodreads.com/genres/dorothy-livesay-poetry-prize) and on Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/bcbookprizes/dorothy-livesay-poetry-prize/). There is also a video of the 2015 awards (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-onNihk-Fk).
BC BookLook might also have some material -- http://bcbooklook.com/?s=%22BC+Book+Prizes%22
and the BC Book Publishers' Association, too -- http://books.bc.ca/?s=%22BC+Book+Prizes%22 --Astu260instructor 2016 (talk) 01:33, 9 March 2017 (UTC) (Kathryn)
- Hi Team BC Books! I thought I'd drop by to see how your draft article is shaping up. The formatting looks good and I think your expansions will make the article stronger. When you add your additions to the article, be sure to do so in small chunks and leave edit summaries - this will make it easier for other editors to see the improvements that you have made. I'm looking forward to seeing the expanded article! Cheers, Will (talk) 20:34, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi All - I'm checking in, too. I just have two minor points: the first is a small typo (the 'e' missing from "literature" under Members at Large), and the second is the Gala section. I find this clear, but hesitate because it is written in the future tense which I don't think works for an encyclopedia entry. Can you revisit, thinking of future readers who encounter this section: what do they need to know about the gala. (If it's useful, here's a brief article about the 2007 gala: http://www.quillandquire.com/events/2007/05/04/bc-book-prize-winners/, and there may be others in the Quill and Quire archives. I do see that other prize pages include a date of the next winner announcement (e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotiabank_Giller_Prize). A larger question I have is whether or not you've found anything that helps get at the impact of these various awards: how they are taken up by readers, writers, publishers and booksellers, how they impact sales, etc. -- perhaps there are points here and there from the trade publications, etc. I appreciate that you may not have access to this. Best, Kathryn --Astu260instructor 2016 (talk) 21:48, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Team, I just wanted to add another small format suggestion: in your references, it's generally good practice to reuse a citation (i.e. have multiple footnotes like to the same reference) rather than list it multiple times in the reference list. To do so, you can delete the footnote number of any duplicate citation, then add a new citation and click "reuse" on the citation tool, then pick an existing reference to which the footnote should link. Please let me know if this makes sense - don't hesitate to flag me down in class. Cheers, Will (talk) 18:31, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi Team - To invite more readers to your page, you may wish to add BC Book Prizes to the list of awards under the Canadian Literature article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_literature. Cheers, Kathryn --Astu260instructor 2016 (talk) 18:20, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
