Re: Brunei

[edit]
Sorry for the delay in replying Alevero. I think that if the English language is actually mentioned by name in the constitution, then it IS recognized for some purposes, although the obvious thrust of the thing is that Malay should be the primary language. That's only my opinion and I'm no constitutional expert. It seems to me to be a rather minor quibble and I won't object if you decide to remove English from the refbox. Information icon Hello. It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence Brunei. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 23:50, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Aunva6 - Pretty sure this wasn't canvassing but rather a new user asking advice from other editors. I have no idea why they picked me as I don't recall doing any substantial edits to the article or participating on the talk page. --NeilN talk to me 00:09, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
he's asked 2 or 3 dozen users with no contributions to this page. myself included. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 01:37, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question on my talkpage

[edit]

Hi there Alevero987,

I apologize for the delay to your query. Your message was reverted and I've only noticed it today.

Well, since it is stated clearly in the Constitution that all official documents must have an accompanying English counterpart, I believe that the term 'Recognised' can be seen as a proper description for the English language in Brunei.

However, saying that, I would also caution against the change and I would recommend having a discussion in the article's talkpage to reach a consensus in this matter.

Feel free to contact me again in my talkpage if you have further queries.

Regards, Hallows AG (talk) 05:35, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting

[edit]

Don't just revert, please.

If you think there is a good reason for your edit, discuss it at Talk:Malaysia.

"So they can be seen better" makes no sense to me, sorry. Begoontalk 18:57, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Recognition of English

[edit]

The Constitution of Brunei certainly "recognizes" English. It requires that all laws be published in English. While English is not an "official language" in Brunei, it is accurate to say that English is "recognized as a language for official communications" there. However, I agree that this is a matter to resolve on the article's talk page, not on your own talk page. Cheers. Marco polo (talk) 20:52, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Brunei, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Chinese and Iban (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
