Deletions

[edit]

I took out "In his youth Sigley enjoyed video games, death metal, and recreational drug use" as it doesn't seem relevant at all to the article, and is a pretty lousy thing to include in a biography. I'm looking at the other items. --- Possibly 04:57, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

@Possibly:

Many thanks. That line which you removed is not only inappropriate but false. On top of that, that particular source is highly problematic, but I'm not sure if I can establish that without writing my own public response to it. That's the first of three problematic bits which I deleted.

The second problematic section is regarding my supposed flouting of scholarship guidelines. I don't think the original source even says that, but if you conducted some independent research you would be able to establish that I didn't. My scholarship ended in late 2017 (and it was a condition that recipients not visit countries which DFAT advises travel against during the scholarship period), and I went to North Korea again in 2018, after the scholarship term had elapsed.

The third is regarding what Michelle Joyce said in the media after I was detained. Yes she appeared in the media and said those things, but I never authorised her to represent me, and the things she said were not true. She also claimed to be my business partner, but if you look at the Tongil Tours website (you can look at previous versions in WayBack Machine too) you will find that she is not listed as my business partner in 2019 (although she may have been listed as a guide around then). I had to reach out to the journalists about this and they removed any reference to her being my business partner, in some cases removing her entirely from the articles, but somehow this still ended up in Wikipedia.

Once you get verified (see instructions below), you could distill the above down to about 20% of what it is, and post it over at the WP:BLPN noticeboard. Make it something like "there is a page on me, and it contains errors. Error one is X, Error two is Y". Keep it very short. I really stress that making it shorter and tighter is the way to get results. That way, many independent editors will look at it and edit it for neutrality and verifiability. [removed section] Thanks. --- Possibly 06:08, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Advice heeded. I've verified my identity and will make a post regarding the other two inaccurate sections later. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alek Sigley (talkcontribs)

Note Regarding Changes

Hello,

Just a note that a change has been made, and a factually incorrect sentence has been removed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Detention_of_Alek_Sigley

Thanks,
