User talk:Blanderàmort
Hey, glad you came to me for help, and hope I can be of assistance. Ok, to start off, for inline citations, I created User:Ctjf83/Ref which is a template for different types of sources. Ok, going to the article, the first citation is:
A Doll For The 1990s: Beautiful But No Bimbo" by Anne Bogart - Special to The New York Times, The New York Times, March 14, 1990 http://www.nytimes.com/1990/03/14/garden/a-doll-for-the-90-s-beautiful-but-no-bimbo.html
So, if we go to User:Ctjf83/Ref and go down to "online newspapers" we get a template of <ref name=>{{cite news|title= |publisher=|author=|url=|date=|accessdate=}}</ref>
Ok, so we start filling in information, for "ref name=" you can just add a description, maybe "New York Times" or what it is describing, like "Birthday" For example sake we'll call it NYT for New York Times. Then, just fill in all the rest of the entries you can, "title=" is "A Doll for the 90's: Beautiful but No Bimbo", "publisher" is "New York Times", etc. So we end up with something like:
<ref name=NYT >{{cite news|title=A Doll for the 90's: Beautiful but No Bimbo |publisher=New York Times|author=Bogart, Annie|url=http://www.nytimes.com/1990/03/14/garden/a-doll-for-the-90-s-beautiful-but-no-bimbo.html|date=1990-03-14|accessdate=2010-12-23}}</ref>
Ok, then you just put that in the article where it belongs. The next time you use the reference, you would just put <ref name=NYT/>, Note you need the /, afterward or it won't work.
I'm not sure what you mean by Cheong Kwon is an administrator and she will make you one. Users have to go through a process to become an Admin, so she can't make you one, and it doesn't appear she is one either
As far as stalkers/vandalism from users/harassment etc, I'm not an admin, so i can't protect you from those. I can provide you with warning templates which you can put on the user's talk page after they vandalize a page or what ever they do, after the 3rd one or so, you can then report them to WP:AIV, and they will possibly be blocked from editing for a period of time. If they keep returning and with different user names, you can request protection so only specific people can edit the page, ie no new users.
Any more questions, please feel free to ask! I am happy to assist you in any way I can! CTJF83 chat 01:39, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the reply. I am really flapping around like a fish out of water à la Dr Seuss!
Well, I do understand how to do it a bit more now, BUT when you say "just put that in the article where it belongs."......WHERE DOES IT BELONG? I did try, and a huge RED warning came up saying I did something wrong. DO I PUT THE WHOLE LINE OF IMPROVED CITATION REF IN THE ACTUAL PLACE WHERE IT SAYS New York Times in the article and the [1] in the REFLIST or vice versa?
ALSO...I see there is a "BillyBoyX" who edited the article and put citation needed in appropriate areas...this is great,...but
A) Who is BillyBoyX ? BillyBoy* himself is very wary of people who use his name for pseudonyms....as his name has been abused by internet people....is it just someone helping the article??...or is is someone who swiped his name....??
and
B) more importantly, we do have the citations but I have not a clue how to put them in...I have read the HELP pages, but honestly, it is really hard to understand for the time being....will tackle that later...as I want to understand the "just put that in the article where it belongs."for the moment.
I really appreciate your help very much....and I hope you will simplify even more as it is not entirely clear for the moment. It is very likely CXheong Kwon, who initiated the article from New York will contacxt you as well, I have copied your reply to her and she is understanding alot better the technical aspects of Wikipedia...together I hope we'll do everything correctly.
About the vandalism, if it happens again (and it was simply idiotic what he did if you check it out)....I will report it. He is not interested in the community of knowledge which Wiki is, but only interested in petty vandalism. He is not insulting only the artists of Mdvanii but moreso, all the people who have collaborated with the artists such as the couturiers and other artists, which is a real pity.
I hope you don't mind my asking for help....it is not easy to understand for the time being and I really do appreciate your reply and help.
Many thanks Alec Jiri Alec jiri (talk) 05:54, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- I certainly do not mind you asking for help! Please, ask all you need! Ok, User:BillyBoyX's edits, while perhaps frustrating putting in [citation needed], are legitimate to do, because the article needs sources. Ok, copy and paste
- exactly how it is, and put in the article where it is referencing. For example if the article referenced
She debuted on Febuary 14th, 1989 in London, England.
- then you would put it right behind it
She debuted on Febuary 14th, 1989 in London, England.<ref name=NYT >{{cite news|title=A Doll for the 90's: Beautiful but No Bimbo |publisher=New York Times|author=Bogart, Annie|url=http://www.nytimes.com/1990/03/14/garden/a-doll-for-the-90-s-beautiful-but-no-bimbo.html|date=1990-03-14|accessdate=2010-12-23}}</ref>
- So It would show up like this:
She debuted on Febuary 14th, 1989 in London, England.[1]
- and the small number 1 would link to the bottom of the page where {{reflist}} is located. When you click on Mdvanii#References, and then hit edit, the section should be blank, and only have {{reflist}} listed. Hope this helps explain, if you need more help let me know, I don't know how well your English skills are. CTJF83 chat 14:57, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks so much....i THINK I did it correctly...can you take a quick look and let me know if it is correct?
BILLYBOYX = Yes, I have no problem with the "citation needed" which I will add as soon as I learn how.
However, I am not comfortable witzh this editor using the creator's name, people have stolen and misused the name BillyBoy* alot and I do know legal action was necessary at times. Why suddenly is there a BillyBoyX on wikipedia?
I speak French usually but my english skills are I'd say good, but I'll slightly dyslexic which makes for the confusion, Ms Kwon is alot more gifted for the logical part of Wikipedia....so, I have to go slowly.
Now, I need to learn how to add a citation and add it to the line....
We have documents, tv appearances, certificates of acquisition from museums etc, how do I add these as citations?
Thank you for the help, again,..I am a bit slow, but I think I can do this...Alec Jiri Alec jiri (talk) 16:04, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- Well unless Billyboyx starts disrupting the page, not much can be done about the chosen user name. Wikipedia:Citation templates has a list of citations templates you can use. Note, you don't have to fill in every space if you can't find anything, just add what you can reference. So for a tv episode (I'll cut it down) you would use:
{{Cite episode| title = | series =| network = | airdate = |season = |number = | minutes = }}
- Some might not apply to what ever show you are referencing. I'm not sure how and if a certificate from a museum would be a valid reference. CTJF83 chat 16:21, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
There is a flag on the article now saying one of the contributors (Ms Cheong Kwon and myself) may be close to the subject. This is not relevent as all the information is exact and specific, as soon as we add the referneces and citations, it will be quite clear. How do we take that away? Its not at all poignant to the article.
Musuem acquisition forms are proof of them being in museums so how do I add these documents? Thank you very much AJAlec jiri (talk) 17:04, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
PS: What does expressions like(Build 599) etc mean? AJ Alec jiri (talk) 17:07, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
I want to put the citation with the paten numbers, but am not sure it is correct.
It should be a CITATION just where it is mentioned she is a "patented sculpting" When I tried putting it, it made a huge text right into the paragraph, which surely cannot be right. Do I put it in "Footnotes" ? It is the patent information. Is all this necessary? Can it be made shorter? In the citations EXAMPLES page, it gives you options and does not say where to put it. This info seems rather confidental to put on wikipedia....but do you think it is the usual thing to do? Putting patent numbers, there are none for other artist creations and none even for dolls.
How would I put them with just Mdvanii Patents and the numbers?
Thank you, AJ Alec jiri (talk) 23:50, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, was working too much the last few days, what did you need help with? I'm a little confused. For the conflict of interest (COI) tag, it could be a user vandalizing, because that page is the only edits the user has, if you don't think the page is a COI, then you can remove it, if you want. CTJF83 chat 15:32, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
oh, thank you so much for replying...I have been hoping you would.
The COI is definitely a vandalism because he keeps putting it back and does NOT give any reasons, or suggestiong, I think it is an alias of a stalker....honestly, this COI is defintiely not true as you can see I am slowly building and verifying all sentences with documentation. CAn you remove it?
MAJOR CONCERN RIGHT NOW IS: I am trying to still figure out how to put basic citations where it says "citation needed".
For example:
For "award-winning poet Gerard Wozek", this is the info:
{{Eric Hoffer Book Award 2008 "Notable Distinction" for "Postcards from Heartthrob Town" in the category of "Memoir.", Potenza 2005 Film Festival: "Short Films and Other Stories", Video Poetry Award 2005, First Place for the videopoem, "Dance of the Electric Moccasins."Gival Press First Book Poetry Prize 2000 for "Dervish"}}
I want to put it next to the word "award winning"....
How do I do it?
Does the citation actually sit inside the sentence in these symbols {{ }}? or am I missing something...shouldn't it appear down in the REFERENCES section?
I wish someone would just tell me once so I can do it,..I have read as much as possible, but I must be misunderstanding something really easy because it is not working, unless it's supposed to sit there inside the actual sentence....
Please let me know, I'd so much appreciate it...i am slowly adding all requested citations regarding books etc, that I have gotten the knack of...it's this "citation needed" which is escaping my command and understanding.
I hope you can help me and remove the COI if possible,...if not I will try again but he keeps putting it back and does not reply in his TALK....
I hope to hear from you and thanks again, AJ Alec jiri (talk) 16:26, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- You put the reference in between <ref> </ref>, you just have to look for the right citation template. I think the above is a book? If so, you would use WP:CITEBOOK as a template. Also, you can either stick the reference in the sentence where it is referencing what is written, or at the end of the sentence, either way is fine, personally I think the end of the sentence looks a little better. CTJF83 chat 16:39, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
AS I SAID MY MAJOR CONCERN RIGHT NOW IS: I am trying to still figure out how to put basic citations where it says "citation needed" for things which are not books or videos or press releases but awards, museum acquisitions etc.
For example:
For "award-winning poet Gerard Wozek", this is the info:
{{Eric Hoffer Book Award 2008 "Notable Distinction" for "Postcards from Heartthrob Town" in the category of "Memoir.", Potenza 2005 Film Festival: "Short Films and Other Stories", Video Poetry Award 2005, First Place for the videopoem, "Dance of the Electric Moccasins."Gival Press First Book Poetry Prize 2000 for "Dervish"}}
I want to put it next to the word "award winning"....
I understand if it is a book or something but when i have to cite the awards Mr Wozek has received, it is under what catagory? and how is it done?
How do I do it? Thank you Alec jiri (talk) 19:19, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- For awards like this, the best bet is to try and find a reliable source on Google confirming the awards won. Sourcing to the award itself won't work. CTJF83 chat 19:25, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- http://www.hofferaward.com/HAbookwinners.html that would work, but only has a last resort, as it isn't a 3rd party source. If you use that, link it in the format of General Website from User:Ctjf83/Ref CTJF83 chat 19:30, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
okay, i found it:
http://www.hofferaward.com/HAbookwinners.html#memoir
Its the page witht he winners noting Mr Wozek for 2008...
So, now, how do I add it as you mention...I have read many of the wiki terms, but I don't understand allof them yet......I am sorry, but I am really trying to get this right....
AJ Alec jiri (talk) 19:37, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- Use that only if you can't find another reference. Just fill in the blanks here: <ref name=Hoffer>{{cite web|url=|title=|publisher=|author=|date=|accessdate=2010-12-27}}</ref> CTJF83 chat 19:39, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I have added it, and looked for others...I am now looking up the two others....thank you.
Now, do you have suggestions to UN COI the article ....? what am I not doing correctly?
Alec jiri (talk) 20:18, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure, skimming the article, I don't see any clear indication of COI, I'd ask User talk:Daniel J. Leivick (which you already did) Depending on his response, I can further weigh in. CTJF83 chat 20:26, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I am desperately trying to improve this and feel a bit bewildered,...everything I have written and my collegue have written is pretty dry and accurate. No superlatives, I don't see any exaggerations or anything which i cannot back up with citations, which i am adding slowly as it is hard to figure out how to add them, each one is different and I have a huge archive of material I have to go through to defend each thing,...I cannot add 50 citations to back up each point, so I have to carefully re-read and add the most appropriate one....it's a slow process...i really would appreciate your support since this is a LGBTQ subject and it seems almost no one on wiki has an alliance with this community,....it's a radical subject for some and I am concerned, from what I know of the climate outside our unusually tolerant country, that it may seem COI to people no tin the least bit concerned by LGBTQ contemporary art. It may be asking too much for some editors and this is a concern which I hope is unjustified, I like to think the historic and intellectual community which wiki is is above racism as any sort....also, these few stalkers, are murderous and contemptuous...they really have it in for the artists (only a handful) but as you saw int he beginning, one was totally schizoid....
I wrote to Mr Leivick as sincerely as possible to make him understand my real desire to make this perfect...I hope he'll help us and I hope you will be an allie to make this article great.
I sincerely thank you,
AJ

- I will do what I can to help, I'm going to see what Leivick says, and the respond accordingly. CTJF83 chat 20:40, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Talk:Mdvanii, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Ronhjones (Talk) 22:05, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I see, I am genuinely sorry...the two comments seemed really biased and very clear that the persons leaving these comments clearly do not actually know the subject at all, perhaps they are biased thinking we are biased. We are not and are entirely willing to make the article as encyclopedic as possible and have no desire to write a "puff piece" or flattering text. I have been asking other wikipedians for help and even adoption, I think the holiday season is delaying the replies. If you could guide me to an editor who can help me, I'd be very grateful. So far one wikipedian has kindly helped and I am still awaiting further replies. We are in the process of adding all citations, for which there are many, to back up and substantiate the text. Any help or guidance would be deeply appreciated.Alec Jiri Alec jiri (talk) 22:35, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
Article tags
[edit]Please do not remove conflict of interest tags when you yourself have the conflict of interest. The article as it currently stands reads like a advertisement or artist's statement the tags are very appropriate. I realize that you are trying to work within Wikipedia's structure and I appreciate it. You really might want to take a close read of WP:COI and the sections appropriate to businesses and article subjects at WP:FAQ. Let me know if you need any help or clarification. --Leivick (talk) 17:45, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- I take all blame for telling Alec is was ok to remove, due to thinking the tagging user was a vandal. CTJF83 chat 17:53, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I am sorry, but I do think the tag is by a vandal...it is by someone who has never worked on wiki and besides, it simply is not true, I have no reason to advertise this subject. My goal is to make a perfect encyclopedic article onthe subject. The facts are set out as clearly as I can make them and if they apear to senior wiki editors as COI, please tell me why and hopefully even specifics.... The facts of the article are completely and 100% correct, I just need to add the citations and help from other editors to make it perfectly wikipedian.
I have no conflict of interest and it's not very fair to claim I do...and IF I do inadvertantly, tell me what sentences are COI,...for example what is COI, and tell me how to change them...please.
I don't think the tags are appropriate and the article, I cannot see how can be otherwise, seems like it is telling the basic story. The subject is very rich. In the art and fashion business, the descriptives used in articles are very glamorous, I did not invent th names of the articles ... they are the genuine historic references...so what does someone suggest to correct this? I still feel Alan Poole is vandalizing the article,....
I have been asking for help in adding citations. The basic citations needed...how do I add them...`? I wrote to CTJF83, who kindly assisted me the following but I still need answers. I am having trouble understanding "citation needed" and how to add them correctly.
AS I SAID MY MAJOR CONCERN RIGHT NOW IS: I am trying to still figure out how to put basic citations where it says "citation needed".
For example:

PLEASE ADVISE ME SPECIFICALLY...thank you very much in advance, AJ Alec jiri (talk) 18:59, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- As far as the references go, look 2 sections up, and I laid out how to cite that reference. If you need more help, post up there, and I'll be glad to help. CTJF83 chat 19:07, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I would appreciate it if Mr Leivick would tell me how to UN COI my article...what needs to be done to improve it? Nobody seems to tell me specifics...and I have asked a number of wiki editors....I only get people saying COI and then disappearing,,,,,,what shall we do?
I have to insist ont he fact we are not trying to make an "artists statement"...I am trying to explain the art work and it's evolution by the shows and the press which are documented. The artists manifesto is only 15 years old and known mostly in Europe and specialists throughout the world....and it is a rather radical new art work, even though it is simple....so how do I convey this in the article, that is what Mdvanii is all about, it started as one thing, perceived several ways by various milieu which are not often mixed and has continually evolved via shows and press and exhibitions, so how do I say this simply without COI? Please help....thank you, AJAlec jiri (talk) 19:43, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
How to COI - Please help!
[edit]I am determined to UN COI this article.
I have presented the evolution of the work, and have requested help....but so far, no specific feedback or advice...
I would like to know what I can do....specifically to make the article perfectly encyclopedic and neutral.
The challenge is that as a new contemporary art expression, the only documentation is museums hows, exhibitions, and press. We also have access to documents such as museum acquisition forms, tv appearances and videos.
SO, someone, please help...
To complicate matters, as the artists are controversial, there are a few stalkers, one of them already tried to vandalize the article and we were helped by a wiki expert Ronhjones, who warned the person in question....I do believe the COI is not appropriate but as a newbie to wiki, I am in no position to quarrel with senoirs....
I am unbiased and writing this out of interest for the subject.
ANy and all editorial help is requested and appreciated,

2) use of real haute couture....
