"Tinkering" edit

[edit]

Hi, I didnt change/add/remove any of the ribbons, their devices, their order or their names in the table. I just edited the markup (removed quite a bit, you can actually do more with less), and made slight changes to the two badges/pins. Hope you don't mind, I followed the link from the bio talk page, and just wanted to help. You can may, of course, undo some, or all of the changes if you like. It is your page after all. I've done some work on quite a few of these tables, so if you'd like any help, just let me know. Cheers - wolf 13:47, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Thewolfchild: I fiddled with it a bit more to get the top row of names into the same table with the rest, getting rid of the ugly empty boxes on either side. I put the column widths back in to keep everything symmetrical about the center line and of uniform size. I also set the background color to white to eliminate what was probably an artifact in rendering the hidden borders (in my Firefox), but also to make it consistent with the badge backgrounds, which are unfortunately white, not transparent. I guess I'll wait a bit to see if the Navy sites get updated with official info before trying to put it into the article. BTW, I did some work on {{Ribbon devices}} to handle the correct placement of devices for the sea services (as opposed to the current Army/AF placement), the new version of which is in its sandbox (along with updated docs, testcases), if you have any input. I've been dragging my feet on bringing it live. Thanks for your help. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 16:07, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Those look much better now. I wasnt sure what you were doing before with the mark up, it seemed off, but now you've got everything lined up really nice. Sorry you had to redo some of that. Last year I was working on some of these tables for some generals, I went to to the help desk (or maybe VP tech) and some guys there gave me the mark up I added here. It seemed like the only way to add those off-set cells at the top. The markup was a lot simpler, but I doesn't look as good as your set up. I'm going to have to copy that and go back to those generals, and some other flag officer bios, and tune their awards sections ;-) ... Anyway, if you think I can help with anything, just let me know.
