Unsourced accusations
Hi, please stop entering unsourced anti-Israeli rhetoric into articles, like you did to Shagor. Thanks, Ynhockey (Talk) 04:42, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Naming conventions
Please be advised that Wikipedia has a policy about naming articles, sections and the like, and you can read about it at WP:NC and its sub-pages. For instance, headings are to be written with only the first word capitalized. You should also take the time to read WP:5P. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 04:45, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Hamas & Beit Lahia
Hello abn al Amir, Thanks for contacting me. For the Hamas article, I think there were two points:
- You added a paragraph about the assassination of Sheikh Yassin under the new heading of "truce violations", however you probably didn't notice that his assassination, as well as those of Abd al Aziz Rantisi and others, are already mentioned under the timeline section.
- In the section briefly mentioning the Gaza beach blast, you inserted seven who belonged to the same family, however in such a short section that information, while painful, seemed to be too much detail (imagine all the other details one could insert, then it would no longer be a summary).
For the Beit Lahia article there were also two main points:
- You adopted a narrative framing it as an intentional massacre, however that view is seriously contested, and wasn't accepted in the manner you presented it for the main entry (Gaza beach blast).
- The list of victims' names doesn't belong because this is an article about the town, with only the briefest mention of the Gaza beach blast. That main article contains an even more detailed list, since that is the place to cover it.
Note that in both cases I preserved parts of your edit (Arab nationalism, Yasser) I hope that I was able to ease your concerns, but if you have any more questions, feel free to ask again. I almost forgot - I wanted to compliment you on your hard work creating articles on all of the villages. Cheers, TewfikTalk 00:47, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Re: Shagor History
Hello again,
I noticed your message on Ynhockey's Talk and I wanted to clarify why he [and I] have been removing that passage. The main issue is that any information added to an article, especially when potentially controversial, must be attributable to a reliable source. Otherwise there is no guarantee that our entries are factual, since anyone could add anything, even if they believe it to be true. Even if I witnessed something with my own eyes, there is no reason for you to take my word for it, and we call that original research. The best solution is to find the account published in a reputable source, and then there will be no problem adding it.
As for renaming, I suggest you read the naming conventions, as it is easy to make a mess by improperly moving things :-) In this specific case, you should find out if Bakri prefers a specific spelling, and if not, check to see if there is a standard spelling used by professional organisations like the IMDB. If not, you can try a Google test, or check the Arabic Manual of Style. I'll try to look into this if I get a few minutes. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. Cheers, TewfikTalk 04:29, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- I found that he indeed self-identifies as "Mohammad" on his personal webiste, so that is the spelling we should use. Cheers, TewfikTalk 05:38, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
To add to what Tewfik said, you also keep adding obviously pro-Palestinian sources (sometimes to ridiculous points, like palestineremembered.com and robincmiller.com, which definitely do not qualify under WP:RS), and hope to support wild stories about massacres based on these sites and books written by proven anti-Israel authors with no well-known research). You must understand that in order to include information in Wikipedia, it must not only be sourced, but the sources must be neutral and/or reputable. Pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli sources are accepted as long as they're reliable (to pro-Palestinian examples are The Guardian and Benny Morris).
I wish to reach a compromise with you, but please discuss major changes which you think may be contentious before making them, and find more reliable sources.
Thanks, Ynhockey (Talk) 19:41, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Ra'ama name change
Hello, No bother at all, I'm glad to help out :-) Before we move it, lets make sure we know what the best name for it is. Since the CBS says Rame, that holds a lot of weight. However, we came across a similar case before where the town rejected the government's spelling, so perhaps you can show that the town rejects that and instead embraces Rama? Also, if you want to discuss anything non-Wikipedia with me, click on the 'email' button on the sidebar. Let me know, TewfikTalk 21:28, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Got your message, and I made the move to Rame. I also saw your post, and PalestineRemembered can be helpful as it presents certain sourced information in an accessible manner. If and when information on the website is attributed to Morris or Khalidi (or whoever), then there is no reason not to cite the actual source. If information is not attributed to a such an RS, then it shouldn't be cited as it doesn't conform in and of itself to the policy on reliable sources as a self-published source not subject to any type of review. Cheers, TewfikTalk 00:59, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Zakariyya
It wasn't me that requested it, I just cleaned up the OpenTasks page. You did a great job on it! At some point, we'll need to create a template that brings together all the former depopulated arab villages. --Abnn 21:00, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- Would you have any objection to renaming the article to something unambiguous, e.g. az-Zakariya or Zakariyya (Arab village)? It is better to have a clear meaning in the article title, than to rely on different spellings to set one article apart from another. - Fayenatic london (talk) 21:11, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- OK, az-Zakariyya it is. I've changed all links into it, including your user page - hope that's OK by you.
Can you tell me whether the Jewish town of Zekharya mentioned in the article is the same location as Kfar Zekharya which gave its name to Zekharyah Airbase, now Sedot Mikha Airbase? If so I will mention it in the article, and change the redirect from Kfar Zekharya to as-Zakariyya.- Fayenatic london (talk) 15:01, 12 May 2007 (UTC) - Replying to my own question: I think that must be another place by the same name. It's west of Bet Shemesh, much further from Hebron. Fayenatic london (talk) 16:17, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: al-Batuf
Hello,
I also thought it odd for one so far from the other three, but that seems to be the ICBS's official designation (spreadsheet file). I was a bit confused by the villages that you had added in - what made you think that they were the right ones? Also, I believe that the MOS says to put all the languages etc. in one set of parenthesis. Cheers, TewfikTalk 01:49, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Governorates of Palestinian National Authority/Template for depopulated Arab villages
Sorry for the slow reply. I've addressed the issue you brought up about Governorates_of_the_Palestinian_National_Authority, at least I think so. I'm holding off on the template for the depopulated Arab villages for the time being, but eventually it would be a good idea. --Abnn 23:09, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've been thinking about creating a template, but right now there are just too many villages to put in one template. Although maybe a solution would be to divide it up by district and have one template for the former villages in each distinct. --Abnn 01:40, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Former Arab villages
Thank you for expanding the range of articles on the former Arab localities of 1948. I wanted to ask you if it's possible to bring other sources other than basing every article on one single website whose legitimacy could be easily questioned. It would be best to try and bring info from non-partisan sites as well. --Shuki 18:51, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

There are many acts out there which may count as militant attacks, such as assaulting soldiers on foreign soil or military bases, but suicide bombings against civilian buses? There is no way you can classify that as anything but Terrorism, and that is exactly what is refered in Operation Defensive Shield. Read the background. Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. 21:02, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Es Samu
I believe the current article is mis-named. The depopulated village near Jerusalem was Imwas, not Samu, which is, as you wrote, near Hebron. Isarig 06:14, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- There's no need - there is already an article on Imwas (as I found when I tried to rename Es Samu). I just removed the incorrect info from the Es Samu article - feel free to expand it now. Isarig 21:08, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Boldface in transliterations
Please don't write Hebrew/Arabic transliterations in bold. This serves no purpose, clutters the text, and (especially in the case of Arabic) makes it much harder to read. The fact that the transliteration is in brackets next to the English word (which might be in bold if it's the subject of the article) makes it obvious that the Hebrew/Arabic text corresponds to it, even without the boldface. Thanks, Ynhockey (Talk) 20:35, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- On a side note, I did not mean to revert all your edits to the Shagor article, just the edit where you made the Hebrew and Arabic text bold. It was an accident and I apologize. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:19, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Hebrew place names
I've added the Hebrew to all those articles you mentioned on Tewfik's talk page. Good work creating them! Number 57 16:20, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- Good work, though Number 57 beat me by only a few minutes :-) I notice that you've added a lot of current villages to Category:Arab localities in Palestine 1948. My understanding is that it is supposed to be a reflection of List of villages depopulated during the Arab-Israeli conflict, and in any event, pretty much every current village existed in 1948, so it wouldn't really be helpful to include them alongside those that were depopulated, since the category would cease to be useful. Cheers, TewfikTalk 07:51, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
I can't say I really understand the point, and this seems like overcategorisation to me. I don't think there is any precedent for such categorisation - imagine Jerusalem in categories relating to mandatory Palestine, Ottoman control, Mameluke control, etc. all the way back to the dawn of time :-) OTOH, depopulation is significant enough for a list, and even for a category. TewfikTalk 18:52, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Starting new articles
It might be better if you created an article in your UserSpace along the lines of Al-Walaja and invited us to add to it, rather than creating a stub that will quickly be targetted for deletion. I can see that you are a genuine and highly productive editor [3] so I'm not trying to put you off. But the encyclopedia has sometimes suffered a blizzard of credible-sounding new articles related to this area, which have turned out to be fantasies. PalestineRemembered 21:22, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- What I said was just a suggestion. There is a danger that, if others do not/cannot add to your new articles, and they remain as little more than a stub then, in a few months or a year, they will be tidied away. Keeping them in your NameSpace means you launch them only after you've had the feedback and so forth. (When you've discovered how to get a directory listing of what you're keeping, do tell me!) You may e-mail me from my UserPage, but I can't mail you, since your e-mail is not engaged. PalestineRemembered 07:09, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure if you click on the first link I provided aboveAl-Walaja you will be taken to a blank page to which you can add your text, and then save. This will then be in your own UserSpace, not in MainSpace. Create your article and then ask (selected?) others to help you with it. If nobody does so, and you're not in a position to turn it into a proper article yourself, then you'll know the project is not yet ready for this article to be included! I don't know how long it will be before this project page is auto-deleted, but it's probably quite a long time. If you create such an article, but then forget what you called it, the record is still in your contributions log. PalestineRemembered 16:46, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- Please let us know how you get on, I've used this procedure a bit, but you're quickly going to discover a whole lot that I know nothing about. PalestineRemembered 16:57, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Kabul, Israel.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Kabul, Israel.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Fair use rationale for Image:Ill_Arafat.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ill_Arafat.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 03:50, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Haniya.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Haniya.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Your recent edits
Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. If I make a suggestion that you agree with, please go ahead and make the change in the article itself. I can make the change if necessary, but (aside from copyedits) it's probably best if I propose it and then you change it, assuming you agree. (If you ever disagree, feel free to leave it unchanged. Then we can argue some more, heh.)

- Hi again,
- Perhaps you could look into what the exact municipal relationship between the two Abasans is. I seem to recall them being separate entities, but perhaps there was a reorganisation due to the massive growth or the new government in the Gaza Strip. Cheers, TewfikTalk 00:39, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
I should get to a more in-depth review in the coming days. TewfikTalk 01:32, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, the creator had unfortunately replaced many of the Palestinian and Israeli ones despite several complaints. The only advantage that I can see is the map, and someone is currently working on integrating one into the current. TewfikTalk 12:11, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, the two Abasans are just that - separate municipalities. What is sorely missing is an explanation of the system of local government, as while the source that I linked to on the muni template suggests that places like the Abasans are "B" level municipalities (towns?), it does not say so outright. Yasser Arafat peer review
Hi Al Ameer son. Sorry, but I don't really have time to look at it in depth over the next couple of days, but a couple of things I noticed from skim reading:
- The Arabic name in the intro does not appear to be the full one given in English - it misses out "Abdel Rahman" and then "Arafat"
- The second sentence in the "Formation of Fatah", Although he originally struggled to obtain a visa to Canada and later Saudi Arabia, Arafat was unsuccessful in both attempts does not appear to make sense - was he successful or unsuccessful? If the latter, it shouldn't start with "Although".
Hope that is some help. Hopefully I'll have a bit more time in a few days. Good luck, пﮟოьεԻ 57 23:06, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Picture in Arafat article
Hey there. I notice you recently added a picture of Arafat with DFLP officials to the page; but it doesn't have a license on the Commons page. I know you've had headaches with articles before, so I thought you might want to add a copyright tag before the AfD police get to it. Cheers. – Scartol · Talk 13:13, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
Arafat FAC
Hi! I don't know whether you have access to JSTOR but this article describes the relationship between the post-colonial era and the rise in Palestinian nationalism/self-determinism. It might be very useful scene-setting. All the best, --ROGER DAVIES TALK 21:04, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry the Arafat FAC didn't work out. I wonder if maybe the controversial nature of Mr. A himself means some people won't ever be happy enough to support it as an FA? – Scartol · Talk 11:35, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Current prose size is at 52KB readable prose (versus 30 to 50 guideline at WP:SIZE). I can check as often as you need, or alternately, you can install Dr pda (talk · contribs)'s prose size script to your monobook. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:36, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Prose size (text only): 51 kB (8346 words) That's within reason; now you should check section by section and make sure the content stays tightly focus on the person, and if it veers into events that can be discussed in more detail in daughter articles. Good luck! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:39, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note about the FAC; I noticed that the possibly-unfree images have already been flagged; you said somewhere that you were going to contact a person who supposedly got a release to use them? Has that been completed? I expect using three possibly-unfree images will stop the FAC before it starts. I'll try to look at the Aftermath section if I have a minute today or tomorrow.
- Kudos on all your hard work here – I'm sure it will (eventually) pay off with an FA star. – Scartol · Talk 13:35, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'll try to get to the sections you need examined when I can. I might advise that – if some sections need work – it's best not to nominate it to FAC until everything has been buffed and polished. (Repeated FAC noms are sometimes viewed as a bad sign by some editors.) – Scartol · Talk 16:50, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if removing it now would be a good idea; leaving it will allow other folks to comment on what might need work. Just try and make sure that every little thing has been perfected before you nominate it again. – Scartol · Talk 17:01, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading Image:Arafat-young.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Palestinian Infoboxes
Why are you removing all the maps from the Infoboxes for Palestinian towns and cities ?

Fatah flag
I'm sorry, but while I respect your request, I'm not going to stick my foot into the flag issues of any of the Arab/Israel conflicts. While I understand your request, Palestine, while a dispossessed nation (and even that will no doubt have people arguing with me, but it is my belief), is not a sovereign state, and neither is using the Fatah flag, and as such, it would be incorrect for me to add the Fatah flag to the page in question, per Wikipedia flag rules. If anything, the logo should also be removed, but since the page is currently locked, and a sensitive subject, I'm not going to remove it (I would tend to remove all of them; though a graphic designer, there's a time for images, and I don't think 7 pixel high images actually add anything), and instead suggest you take this to the protecting admin, Xaosflux. --Thespian 14:12, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Yasser Arafat as Featured Article
How come the Assessment box has not included Yasser Arafat in the FA section. Its in there once you click FA but in the box it is shown as an A-class article. --Al Ameer son (talk) 01:07, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- I am not familiar with how it all works. What is the Assessment box? I only learned today that a star at the top right of an article means it is a featured article. I went to that link and I see Yasser Arafat listed in the Politics and government section. I have your user talk page watchlisted. So please reply here to keep the thread in one place. --Timeshifter (talk) 01:17, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
The Assessment box is on the projects main or front page; It lists all of the articles of the project based on their quality (stub, GA, FA, etc.) and their importance (low, mid, high, top) to the project. It is listed as the Quality assessment statistics in the Table of Contents of the project main page. --Al Ameer son (talk) 01:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK. I see you are referring to:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Palestine#Quality assessment statistics
- Here are the template pages:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Palestine/Assessment/Statistics
- Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Palestine-related articles by quality statistics
- That last link is to an editable page where you can change the numbers in the assessment box.--Timeshifter (talk) 02:24, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Great! I've made the necessary changes. Thanks for your help! --Al Ameer son (talk) 02:35, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- You are welcome. I added an edit link to the bottom of the assessment table template. I don't understand wikitable formatting very well, though. There needs to be a bottom border line.
- I would like to add a blank row all the way across the bottom of the chart. That is where I wanted to add the edit link. Maybe Help:Table has some clues. --Timeshifter (talk) 10:06, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I also noticed the missing border line, I thought I did it but that was its state previously. I think adding an edit link is a good idea, its simply easier to make necessary changes. --Al Ameer son (talk) 16:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like a bot reverted my changes, removed the edit link, and updated the stats. See the revision history here. --Timeshifter (talk) 15:18, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- I see now that the a line border has been added to the template and I guess I understand the bot removing the edit link because only editors skilled in these boxes should edit them instead of user like you and I. --Al Ameer son (talk) 01:16, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
(unindent) I have figured out that the bot account is actually a human too. :) So I don't know what part of the edits are done by the bot,... or by the human. I did discover that this line of code below is what allows the table to be automatically updated by the bot:
-
It is on this page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Palestine/Assessment/Statistics
There are only 2 lines of code on that page:
-
-
Check out also the code on this page:
The code that produces the assessment table there is:
-
-
I figured this out from following some of the links on the talk page here: User talk:WP 1.0 bot. --Timeshifter (talk) 10:31, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Re: Shagor
I have tried to find the page with education and income statistics which is from later than 2001 (Shagor was founded in 2003), but to no avail. It should be somewhere on www.cbs.gov.il -- Ynhockey (Talk) 17:36, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- No, but the information you're looking for and more can be found here, but you need to understand Hebrew. I'll help you with specifics when I have time, meanwhile, please list the statistics you would like to insert. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 18:41, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Males: 14,600 (2005)
- Females: 13,900 (2005)

- Number of salaried workers: 6,674 (2004)
- Mean monthly salary: 3,663 NIS
- Number of schools: elementary: 9, middle: 3, secondary: 6
- Number of students: 7,473 (4,276 elementary, 1,822 middle, 1,375 secondary)
- Hope this helped.
- -- Ynhockey (Talk) 08:45, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Here are the additional stats:
- Matriculation % - 43.5%
- Weather averages - not available (moreover, I think CBS publishes only yearly averages and not monthly, correct me if I'm wrong)
- Apparently there's a Maccabi Bi'ina in Liga Bet (could be in Liga Gimel), also Beitar Bi'ina and a team in Deir al-Assad in Liga Gimel. Not sure how correct or up to date the information is, as it's from Wikipedia and not an external source.
- I think that the articles on each 'component' should be kept separate, although if you want to include the overall history inside Shagor, maybe you should merge the 3 articles into it, as in the Hebrew wikipedia. If I'm in the library in the coming days, I'll get you some info on each of the 3 villages.
-- Ynhockey (Talk) 13:34, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Answers:
- No, as I said, it's from Wikipedia itself and it's not very reliable. I'm not sure that CBS even has info about sports, and if it does, it wouldn't be an authority probably.
- No, one team is in just one league at a time, although in the low-level leagues (B and C), many teams jump between the leagues very often and it's hard to acquire up to date information. There's probably a league website will all the info you need but since I'm not into soccer (hockey FTW), I'm not really sure where to look.

About Sebastia (town)
It's an interesting suggestion, but I think it's better to retain the English spelling for the town which is Sebastia. It's only transliterated Sebastiya by those unfamiliar with its proper English name. It think it's important for us to use the most common, proper name in English, rather than the Arabic transliteration used only by those who are unaware of its English form. I believe that is in step with Wiki guidelines on the matter too. Thanks for the suggestion though. Tiamut 12:29, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Broken link in the White Mosque article

But of course, they're just stubs. I'm mostly hoping that they will encourage people to add more details, jump-starting a kind of kinetic energy effect.
