You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Simon Yorke requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Here is your article

[edit]
@Aidan NL: Here you go - Sorry about all that. Some editors see only rules and regs and forget about the human side of editing! It doesn't look as though the admin disputes and notability of the individual now he knows it is from the Dictionary of Welsh Biography, so once the article is complete it should be fine. In order to try and avoid situations like this again it might be worth building articles in your Sandbox (top right) and them copying and pasting the text into the new article once you are happy with it. I will be off work for much of Easter but feel free to contact me on Wiki and i will try and get back to you asap. Best Jason.nlw (talk) 13:48, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers Jason, I'll recreate the rest of it next time I'm in. Forgot about the sandbox, I'll bear that in mind. Don't worry, I won't be put off by this, all part of the learning curve. Aidan NL (talk) 22:57, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Simon Yorke (1903 - 1966) was a landowner and soldier.

Simon Yorke was born on 24th of June 1903 in Erddig, Denbighshire, the eldest son of Philip Yorke (1849-1922) and his second wife Louisa Matilda (née Scott). He was the fifth bearer of that name in the family, descended from Simon Yorke of Dover (1606-1682), the grandfather of the Earl of Hardwicke. Simon's education took place at Moorland House in Heswall; Cheltenham College, and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge; and in 1927 he graduated with a BA in Forestry.

Paraphrasing

[edit]

Hi you have recently created a number of articles that are basically copied from the Dictionary of Welsh Biography with some minor changes to mask this. This is paraphrasing and as almost the totality of the articles come from a single source this is most probably in violation of Wikipedia's Copyright policy. Please read WP:PARAPHRASE and I would strongly advise you to rewrite the articles and also find some other sources as their notability is also questionable. Cheers Domdeparis (talk) 15:01, 9 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I'll look into further rewrites Aidan NL (talk) 11:51, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

hi it's been 10 days now and you haven't done anything to the articles that you paraphrased from the Dictionary. I am going to pare them down to the bare bones and allow you to rewrite. Domdeparis (talk) 13:54, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve William Watkins (cleric)

[edit]

Hi, I'm Boleyn. Aidan NL, thanks for creating William Watkins (cleric)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This needs more sources.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Speedy deletion nomination of Simon Yorke (1903–1966)

[edit]

Hello Aidan NL,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Simon Yorke (1903–1966) for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

GtstrickyTalk or C 16:53, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Simon Yorke (1903–1966) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. There is not even a claim of notability in the article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
