Use a colon instead of a period

[edit]

Could User:Ahecht/Scripts/pageswap-core.js please be updated so that when one of the common move reasons at the "Swap" form is selected, it will be followed by a colon instead of a period in the move log entries (like at Special:Redirect/logid/164530745, for example)? The behavior is currently inconsistent with the one at Special:MovePage, where a colon (not a period) would appear in the move log entries, e.g., at Special:Redirect/logid/164552365. GTrang (talk) 00:59, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@GTrang I've implemented that in the sandbox version. Feel free to try it out. It will get copied over to the main script the next time I am making revisions. --Ahecht (TALK

@GTrang  Done. The change is now present in the main version as of v2.3.3. --Ahecht (TALK

mapframe directly so it doesn't count as Lua time

[edit]

That looks like an interesting trick. May prevent so much use of cache purging to clean up pages as more than about 5 seconds usual Lua time use can break pages badly after an edit if the back end server infrastructure has problems. I will see how it works on a heavily edited page by vandals perhaps best after you have pointed me towards the #tag documentation and then roll out to the other pages that I know call big raw geojson templates ChaseKiwi (talk) 23:35, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ChaseKiwi It wasn't my idea -- it's documented in the first bullet point under "Note:" at the top of Template:Maplink/doc. You can thank Jackmcbarn for that. --Ahecht (TALK

ta - I must have glanced over that point one day early on in my use of mapframe functionality. ChaseKiwi (talk) 01:28, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Scripts/refresh

[edit]

Hi :) I noticed that the script does not allow null editing in the links here of a category, would it be possible to enable that? --GryffindorD (talk) 20:08, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@GryffindorD I've modified the sandbox version at User:Ahecht/sandbox/Scripts/refresh.js so that it works from pages such as Special:WhatLinksHere/Category:X or Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:X to null edit linking pages instead of transcluding pages (for templates) or category members. Please try it out and let me know if it works as expected, and I'll copy it over to the main script. --Ahecht (TALK

ircredirect

[edit]

Hi Ahecht, it looks like KiwiIRC.com is down (again, and again for a few days), so the redirector isn't working. I've opened a PR to use Libera Chat's own hosted instance which I think is a bit more stable for any connections to Libera Chat, though I would consider having some configurable target webchat instance a better option for the longer term. Please can you take a look when you get chance, and if you're happy merge it and deploy it to Toolforge? Thanks muchly :) stwalkerster (talk) 18:20, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Stwalkerster I'd want to get consensus on-wiki first. I'm not sure when/where the original decision to use kiwiirc was made, but I'll post something to Wikipedia talk:IRC help disclaimer. --Ahecht (TALK

@Stwalkerster Scratch that. Looks like the backup link on Wikipedia:IRC help disclaimer has been pointing to web.libera.chat without controversy for some time now. I went ahead and implemented the change. --Ahecht (TALK

Hi there! The trial of the RfA discussion-only period passed at WP:RFA2024 has concluded, and after open discussion, the RfC is now considering whether to retain, modify, or discontinue it. You are invited to participate at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase II/Discussion-only period. Cheers, and happy editing! Administrator Elections: Call for Candidates

[edit]

Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Call for candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • October 8–14 - Candidate sign-up (we are here)
  • October 22–24 - Discussion phase
  • October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familar with the community's expectations of adminstrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a one week call for candidates phase, a one week pause to set up SecurePoll, a three-day period of public discussion, followed by 7 days of no public discussion and a private vote using SecurePoll.
  • The outcomes of this process are identical to making requests for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA or administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

To avoid sending too many messages, this will be the last mass message sent about administrator elections. If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

You're receiving this message because you signed up for the mailing list. To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the list.

@S.A. Julio My only role in the creation of these pages was splitting them off from AEK Athens F.C. in European football for technical reasons after BEN917 added them. I would suggest leaving a notification on their talk page as well. --Ahecht (TALK

Admin elections

[edit]

Hello friend. If you intend to run in the admin elections, I think you'll probably want to remake your candidate page. It looks like you created Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Candidates/YOUR USERNAME HERE but it ended up messed up. Probably best to start from scratch. Let me know if you need any help. Thank you. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:26, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Novem Linguae I created that page intentionally as a warning message, the same way that Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/USERNAME is a warning message. --Ahecht (TALK
