Michael Lucas
[1] I have authority from David Shankbone and can be verified by WJBscribe to upload and change pictures. Please change back. LucasEnt08 13:44, 21 March 2008 (EST)
- I'll get back to you in a bit. I need to check something. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 17:47, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
LucasEnt08 (talk · contribs) is a legitimate account, operated by Lucas' assistant. David Shankbone has been in discussion with him and theyhave agreed to release some high quality images of Lucas under he GFDL. You have a point about COI, but the intention was simply to introduce those images into the article. Would you mind working with them to agree what a good image balance for the article might be? WjBscribe 17:54, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- So this user is only going to add the images? Just checking. Sure, I can look at the image placement. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 17:58, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

There's already been email correspondence with OTRS apparently - I'm trying to track down the ticket number so it can be added to the images' description pages. WjBscribe 18:07, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, ok. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 18:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- The image placements look fine to me, if that's what you meant by image balance. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 18:13, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Nominated St. Paul A.M.E. Church for DYK
See [2]. Hope you don't mind. Since I am too lazy to create really awesome Raleigh articles like this, I thought I could at least nominate yours for DYK... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 16:36, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ahh, thank you very much. HouseOfScandal nominated Clarence Lightner for DYK but I don't know what to do after that, so I guess I'll wait a little while to figure out the DYK process. Hopefully, they'll pick one of them. This list is coming in very handy. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 01:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- DYK is mega informal. Generally, if its nominated, and its not crap, it makes the main page on the appointed day. They just rotate through all of the qualified nominees. Yours should easily make it... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 12:45, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Will I be informed if it does or do I just need to keep a lookout? AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 13:01, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- When it gets promoted to the main page, you usually get a notice on your talk page, PLUS, the article's talk page will be updated to indicate it appeared as a DYK article. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 23:13, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

My RfA
Thank you!
APK, Thank you for your nominating me and supporting me in my RFA! The final vote count was (73/3/1), so I am now an administrator. Please let me know if at any stage you need help, or if you have comments on how I am doing as an admin. Have a nice day! Aleta Sing 16:52, 22 March 2008 (UTC) |

Clarence Lightner
Clarence Lightner should appear on the front page DYK section sometime in the next few hours. Are you a DYK virgin or have you had stuff up there before? Happy Easter. - House of Scandal (talk) 07:35, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yay! As in real life, I'm a virgin. (ZAP!) Damn, lightning just struck my building. Happy Easter to you as well. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 07:37, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
CONGRATS on your first DYK of many, I'm sure. Virgin? (Anyone that has a To-do-me list?) HA. ;-) — Becksguy (talk) 13:35, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

DYK for Clarence Lightner
--BencherliteTalk 08:56, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, congrats on the DYK for the Clarence Lightner article! Thanks for letting me know, too. I put material from the article in other places, too - Raleigh, for instance.--Parkwells (talk) 12:55, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! Yeah, I noticed that. Thanks for beefing up the history section. Do you know if an article has to be a certain length to reach GA status? I want to do some more work on his article. Also, I think this would make a good DYK, but I would need to find some more info and a free picture. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 12:59, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, damn. That didn't stay on the page very long. I've never really paid attention to the main page, so I guess they rotoate DYK's fairly quickly. My 15 minutes are up! AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 15:42, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Did you get a DYK from the suggestion I gave you? That's very cool. If you used some other information, then...eh. Somewhat cool. Just kidding...Congratulations! (That Easter pic with Nancy Reagan is creepy.) --Moni3 (talk) 15:51, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- The hook was "that Clarence Lightner was the first African-American elected mayor of any metropolitan Southern United States city?" (similar to the one you mentioned, but HoS nominated it and came up with that sentence) The Easter pic cracked me up when I saw it. Only I would send out WikiEaster greetings with such an odd picture and message. After talking to Philippe this morning, I should have added "George W was notified and sent Cheney to hunt the wabbits down with his infamous shotgun." Happy Easter
Happy Easter 2008. We will not see Easter this early again in our lifetimes, most likely, unless we will live for another 152 years. From the article on Easter: The calculations for the date of Easter are somewhat complicated. In the Western Church, Easter has not fallen on the earliest of the 35 possible dates, March 22, since 1818, and will not do so again until 2285. It did, however, fall on March 23 in 2008, but will not do so again until 2160. Peace brother. — Becksguy (talk) 13:28, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- I drink too many Jägerbombs to live for another 152 years. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 13:35, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Remind me to never go drinking with you..... I gave that up years ago. — Becksguy (talk) 13:38, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I hate the taste of liquor and rarely drink. I'll have an occassional glass of red wine (I like Yellow Tail shiraz...I know, I'm cheap), but I detest screwdrivers, Cape Cods, Jack & coke, etc. When I do drink it's only jager shots, LIT's, and pomegranate martinis. I prefer the hard stuff. (insert innuendo joke here) AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 13:44, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

MLK Memorial Garden, Raleigh
Hi - I'm not sure if the garden itself would be notable - it's unlikely to have attracted enough scholarly sources writing about it. If you wrote about the history of the African American community of Raleigh, that would be certainly be notable, as you could cover some of its history, and then you could incorporate community leaders who are recognized at the garden.
Raleigh is one of the two major cities, had a strong community in the 19th c., probably had a number of free people of color before the war. The pieces of history which I've read about Raleigh make the black community sound noteworthy - educated and middle class before many others: churches, schools, businesses. That's one approach. The difficulty with the garden, I think, is that it is probably not a first, and is not by an independently notable architect/landscape designer. Another way to approach it may be the "class of MLK Memorials in various cities" - what do they share and how are they different? I believe the major one was designed by Maya Lin, who did the Vietnam Memorial. It has water running over it- the first, I think.--Parkwells (talk) 23:31, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, the history one would definitely make a good article. I just need to do some research and figure out what all I need to add. Thanks for the help. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 04:31, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Raleigh NC area NRHPs, and photos
Hi -- Nice work on Ritcher House and other articles you've announced at WP:NRHP. I wanted to ask if you could get pics for the 2 of 3 National Historic Landmarks in Raleigh that currently lack pics, in List of National Historic Landmarks in North Carolina. Not sure if you may be taking and uploading some of the pics yourself, but I clicked on the Ritcher House pic and find my way to the NPS webpage where you got it from.
Some such NPS webpages include photos that are NPS-owned, so what you did seems reasonable to try. But for this photo of the Ritcher House, it is identified as NOT a NPS photo, with caption "The Ritcher House is an example of Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian design. Photo by Jerry Blow, courtesy of Raleigh Historic Districts Commission". If you consult the NPS page that talks about copyright of pictures in its website, i believe it is clear this is NOT public domain. The NPS is clear that it uses, with permission, some copyrighted pictures, and those do not go into the public domain just because the NPS uses them. So, actually, i think this one should be deleted. I am sure you want to do the right thing here, too, though it is unfortunate to have to take a step back. RSVP, doncram (talk) 23:01, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't live in NC anymore, but I've been asking a few people to take pictures if they can. Some of the captions in these profiles say different things. Some say from the "National Register Collection." Is that allowed to be added to the article? AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 00:26, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- I RSVP here and on your talk page, but no answer. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 23:21, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Leonard Hall
Another you should nominate for DYK! --Aleta Sing 22:49, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. :-) Yeah, I'm gonna try DYK again. I've been working on that article off and on since yesterday. It was hard to find those pictures. I had to learn about the Snipping Tool feature that I never knew existed on my laptop because the source wouldn't let me right click and copy the pix. I wish I could find a free use pic of the building as it looks today. Thanks for fixing those typos. I'm terrible at catching those in my articles. - ...that Leonard Hall's four year African-Americans medical graduates in 1886 (pictured) were was the first in the United States? by AgnosticPreachersKid Hope you don't mind. I saw this and nominated it. I added an extra ref and rearranged the facts to make the great picture work. There seems to be two two dates quoted for the pic but i'm gussing that 1886 is correct. cheers Victuallers (talk) 23:06, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

The hook says the picture is of the 1886 graduates, but it's actually the 1889 graduates. What's another way I could word the hook? AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 02:04, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey APK - I thought about you today when I was at Focus on the Family. They had a big photo of you in their hallway as Public Enemy No. 1 - apparently, you are *not* Jesus' favorite Wikipedian. I'm sorry. Perhaps if you write James Dobson he could intervene on your behalf...?
Of course, afterwards I went to photograph the Air Force Academy, and that made me think of you again, and that you'd probably prefer to be "hanging" in there than at FotF. --David Shankbone 02:10, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- I love bumper stickers I've seen at Pride shops that say, "Focus On Your Own Damn Family." I should buy one and send it to Jimmy. Air Force Academy you say? Hmmm, APK grew up near Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and he loves to "support" the troops in any way possible.

This comment you made...
is exactly why I think it will happen (if you want it). I know exactly what type of editors you are talking about - playing the "wiki-game" with secret pages, guestbooks, etc. I love being an editor here. Now that I'm admin (since Jan08), this place gets under my skin way more than it used to. That being said, I really enjoy the extra buttons as they've made work here a lot easier and even more rewarding. And I really like looking at deleted pages :-). Keep up the good work. I've seen you around a bit, (I think first at Aleta's rfa, not sure though). If you ever need any help with anything, let me know! (I don't do email or IRC, a rarity amongst admins, so if it's ever something really private you'll hafta look elsewhere.) Otherwise, my talk is always open. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:20, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! Yeah, I had a barnstar from someone's secret page game, but then I saw the comments the person was making about becoming an admin (waaaaay too anxious), so I removed the barnstar so as not to be associated with that user. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 22:24, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- My father (who was a wise and bright man) used to say that anyone that wanted to be president (of the US) shouldn't get the job. I think that applies to many positions of power, or perceived power. I am also concerned about those that want to be administrators here overly much. Maybe self nomination, either directly or through someone, should be discouraged. The job is, in reality, more of a pain in the neck than a promotion, but not everyone gets that, despite the expression "it's not a big deal" that's used. I know because I've been there already, although not here obviously, and of course many others have learned that particular life lesson. APK had the right idea, I think, in that it's a Zen like thing. To me, it's about balance. And if you want something too much, inevitably balance suffers. Peace. — Becksguy (talk) 05:50, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- You're right. It seems like admins have to focus more on sysop duties instead of enjoying editing and writing. Not all of them mind you, but some. Right now, I'm in article creation mode with a little vandalism patrol on the side. People like Aleta and Satyr know how to deal with people patiently, but I guess since I'm still somewhat of a newbie here I haven't found the correct way to deal with people on the discussion pages. It's really hard to not get sucked into debates and I'm an outspoken and opinionated person, but in the past few days I'm trying not to do that anymore (i.e. User:Masculinity) with some success. I don't think I'd ever want to be an admin, but the only reason I would want to be one is to be able to block vandals (like the one that hit my talk page and David's). AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 11:35, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
RE: Question
Yeah, sorry I missed those the first time around. All set for now though. But yes, user blocked means that the page was not protected, but the user creating the problem was blocked instead. In this case, both user accounts were blocked and the page semi-protected. - Rjd0060 (talk) 23:57, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

- Sheesh, APK, I thought you were already semi-protected! I would support a week or more, as I'm tired of your userpage being near the top of my watchlist. :-). Our gay 72.76 troll has gone too far
You can threaten me. You can rape me. You can scour the dirty streets of the East Village looking for me with "sweet revenge" (ugh - it pained me to repeat such a trite, dramatic cliché), but you don't mess with APK! Sorry you have to deal with our bizarre gay New Jersey stalker. He's really obsessed with gays. He's vandalized a gay Jewish rapper since November 2007. He's been obsessing over a gay porn star since April 2007. He hangs out on the Wikipedia LGBT project. He's gone after gay Wikipedians like WJBscribe, you and, of course, me. Will a man take this guy and get him laid or what?! Perhaps, APK, that somebody is you...perhaps he saw your charm, wit, intelligence and good looks...and it scared him. He's clearly scared about his sexualtiy, and since Lucas is a pitcher, and you're a catcher, he is not so sure what he wants to do. --David Shankbone 04:32, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm still stuck on that 2nd sentence. :P Anyway, yes it's a closet case and David gets a prize for the kind words! Since you're in NYC and I'm in DC, it will have to be an e-bj. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 11:11, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Peer review
If any of you peeps get bored and want to make suggestions (Wikipedia:Peer review/Clarence Lightner/archive1), please do. I'm trying to get the article to GA. Gracias. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 17:00, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Peer review - probably a good place to sign up for some more reviewers Aleta Sing 17:11, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- So I need to make a 2nd peer review or will it link to the same one I created? AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 17:13, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think it would be a separate page, but maybe you can redirect it to the one you have already... I'm not certain. Aleta Sing 17:14, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- You could also drop notes on the talk pages of the other relevant projects. Aleta Sing 17:17, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tips. I'll try mentioning it on projects because I don't understand the instructions for listing it on the Biography Peer Review page. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 17:19, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Barnstar
The Special Barnstar | ||
is hereby awarded to APK for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, invoking the wrath of David's stalker, and still coming out of it with damned good hair. APK is entitled to all the rights (wrongs) and privileges (extra work) associated with this barnstar. Given by my hand, this 26th day of March, 2008, and sealed with the great seal of good humour (though not the ice cream kind, because that would drip on the star and get it all icky). - Philippe | Talk 02:19, 27 March 2008 (UTC) |
- Yay! How's my weave girl? I laughed when I read the word "icky." I've been told I'm "special" before, but not special! Thanks Philippe. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 09:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I've asked this before, but does the Racism Category belong in this article? All you have to do is read his statements (genocide of white people) to know that it's racist. An editor keeps saying it's a violation of BLP and that it "gives him a poor reputation." Um, the cat isn't the one doing that, his words have already taken care of it. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 17:49, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- OMFG, shit like that is what gets on my nerves on this site. To state the obvious, he is a racist that called for the genocide of white people, is somehow a problem and now I have to deal with it on the talk page. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 18:36, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- He clearly is a racist. (OMG! Anyone that talks about genocide of any group... ugh!) The category issue is very analogous to our Category:Homophobia one though - it's true, but there is an implied POV. I'm not sure what the best way to deal with all these situations is. Aleta Sing 18:57, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
I will go back to that article every goddamn day if I have to in order to prove my point. (This is why I mentioned before I'll never be an admin) I will quit this site if WP is too pussy to add an obvious category like that to someone who wants to kill people like me. That is completely insane and idiotic. I'm very tempted to e-mail this case to a few blog websites to point out the lunacy of some WP policies. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 19:00, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- P.S. I'm not ranting at you Aleta, but to WP in general. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 19:04, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- *Wipes off spit from APK's rant at her* (Just kidding) I actually think you're right on this, but I'm not going to get into it beyond a little commentary here. I also really want us to find a good way to categorize articles of the Sally Kerns of the world. English is a rich language - there has to a way we can deal with these things. Aleta Sing 19:14, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- *hands Aleta a towel to wipe my spit* I'm e-mailing one of the websites as we speak to see if a little spotlight can solve this problem. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 19:17, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

LGBT project
Hey guys and gals. In order to retain my sanity on WP, I removed myself from the LGBT project. We don't see eye to eye on priorities and many of the article are controversial. I think one problem with my patience on this site is that I had around 650 pages on my watchlist. I guess that's normal for editors, but many of them were controversial topics. It seems like I was spending half my time reverting vandalism to these articles, and not enough time reading and editing like I want to do. I've removed any article that is remotely prone to debating, including any article related to LGBT issues. (Sally Kern, Gay, Sexual orientation, all porn stars, etc.) If those articles go to hell in a handbag, so be it. I tried. I'm down to around 225ish articles on my watchlist now, mostly relating to NC. But just because I'm not in the project anymore doesn't mean I want you to stop coming on by my page. From now on, I'm going to try to stick to articles that no one will have issues with because I think many WP policies are flawed and there's a clear bias in many controversial articles. I'm sure that's not really news to any of you, but it's something I've realized since I began editing in January. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 13:57, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's a good plan, but remember even on non-controversial articles a controversial topic can pop up. See the histories of the talk page and the main article for Lower Manhattan, where one editor User:MickMacNee has found himself blocked because he cares way too much about the presence of what he sees as an unnotable, sub-par photograph. "Caring way too much." That's the curse that can feel many an editor; myself included. I am also trying to practice the "Who cares? It's only a website" mantra. --David Shankbone 14:14, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Glad to see you back APK. I agree with DS here. Life's too short, the pay here sucks. Do what you can where you can. When it gets ridiculous (and even the most bland of articles, such as this, have had page protection for persistent vandalism), move to the next! Wikibreak
APK, as a battle-scarred veteran of Wikipedia I would caution you to make sure you get the Wikipbreak you need and don't dive in deep again too soon (your post above indicates a good step in the right direction). Wikipedia -- usually an enjoyable compulsion -- can easily become an angst-ridden one. I've experienced that very strongly in the past. I'm just suggesting you get some fresh air this weekend. Or better yet, spend time with someone cute, young, and dirty. Best wishes, - House of Scandal (talk) 14:03, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Busy weekend
It's that time again, peak tourist season in Washington, D.C. The cherry blossoms are almost in full bloom. The National Marathon is taking place this weekend and the first game in the new Nationals Park is on Sunday. I had to swing by the National Museum of the American Indian and National Air and Space Museum the other day and found a new appreciation for the pill. Too many churren running around and waaaaaay too many tourists from Arkansas that apparently have never been to a larger city. They walk around and say, "Wow! This must be what New York City feels like." Er, no. Washington and NYC are polar opposites, despite the large ethnic diversity in both cities. It's amusing when certain tourists make their way through Dupont Circle. They hop right back on the metro and head back to Northern Virginia where the hotels are cheaper and Log Cabin Republicans welcome them with open arms. I tried to visit The Phillips Collection a few days ago, but a large group of Asian tourists had taken over the museum. I'm ready for the Fourth of July and A Capitol Fourth (which I will never attend again; there were fights to get cabs and to fit on the metro trains afterwards), the end of the majority of tourist visits.
