But
[edit]As a general principle, you cannot delete material that is supported by citations just because you don't agree with it. You have to show first that the citations are not valid or are not strong enough to justify the statement being made or the strength of that statement. So in this case, for example, you could have added a preface to the section to say according to some hadiths, ... But these hadiths are considered weak by the majority of Islamic scholars.[citation]
YouTube is not acceptable as a WP:reliable source, if you are going to contradict or challenge hadith, you need top quality sources. You may find something at Hadith. Your opinion (or mine!) is of no value.
Please use talk:Ramadan to argue for the change you believe should be made. I don't own the article, it is not me you have to convince. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 09:28, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information, @John Maynard Friedman! I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. Aelarth (talk) 16:15, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Your edit to talk:Ramadan (calendar month) - looks good to me.
[edit]The only thing I might have done differently is to use wikipedia's '#' syntax (to number paragraphs and indent the associated text) and the * syntax to make bullet points and again indent. Like this:
- The hadith subject matter seems to contradict the common practice of saying "Ramadan Mubarak" and "Ramadan Kareem" mentioned in the other Ramadan page[1].
- Additionally, there is a large corpus of hadith across other hadith books that simply state "Ramadan" instead of "the month of Ramadan."[2]
- These hadith are considered weak [3] or daif[4].
But most important of all, you communicated your points clearly and effectively. Making it look pretty is just a bonus extra.
- If I were you, I would leave a message at talk:Ramadan (with an appropriate section title - without capitalising every word ) to say something like "there is a discussion at talk:Ramadan (calendar month)#Temporarily Remove Hadith Section to which editors of this article may wish to contribute, please". Your call. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 19:53, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
BTW, I should have said that if your challenge is not opposed, then you have followed due process and you will be free to delete the contentious material. The main thing is to have justified first and deleted second, not the other way round. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 22:40, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
