Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

I request an appeal because I want to simply list Advent Comics as a comic publisher and not use wikipedia's platform to advertise or promote. I intend to use it like AfterShock Comics, Ahoy Comics, Lion Forge Comics and many others. I will remove our website or any other information that you deemed as advertising or promoting. Unblocking

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Advent Comics (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I was merely trying to cite the history of Advent Comics and explain what we do here. It was never my intent to sell our products from Wikipedia's platform because we have our own established spaces for that. I apologize for any miscommunication and assure that it will not happen again if we are allowed to continue with noting our history on Wikipedia's platform. Advent Comics (talk) 20:02, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This does not address the problems with WP:USERNAME or WP:COI. Yamla (talk) 20:14, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Our username is no different than other active comic publishers who have Wikipedia pages such as AfterShock Comics, Ahoy Comics, Image Comics, Lion Forge Comics and many others. What is it that we can do to remove this block? Advent Comics (talk) 14:28, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Advent Comics, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Block Removal

[edit]

First of all, Happy New Year's!

I am writing to see if I can get the indefinite block removed from my account and write a page on Advent Comics. I am simply trying to create a page like other publishers that Wikipedia has given pages to such as AfterShock Comics, Ahoy Comics, Lion Forge Comics and countless others. I am not trying to use Wikipedia to advertise or promote. If I did anything to give that appearance I apologize (I am not sure but I think that I may have included our website). If the block is removed and we are allowed to create the page, I promise that we will adhere to the rules and no more infractions would occur. Please contact me to let me know what I can do to rectify this situation. Advent Comics (talk) 14:25, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Your account name "Advent Comics" violates Wikipedia's username policy. Wikipedia accounts cannot represent businesses, organizations, or groups of people; this is non-negotiable. An account must represent a single individual who does not share access to it with anyone else. The only acceptable variation of an account name with a company name is to combine it with an indivdual's name (e.g. John at Advent Comics). You will never be allowed to edit with your current username, and your block will not be lifted until you propose a new username.
  2. Your company is not entitled to have an article on Wikipedia just because it exists. All subjects on Wikipedia - people, places, things - have to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable topic to be considered worthy of inclusion. In the case of a company, the notability criteria have been refined at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). To be considered notable, a company must have already received significant coverage from multiple third-party sources which Wikipedia considers to be reliable.
  3. The existence of articles about other similar companies is no guarantee that an article about yours will be accepted. Each article has to stand on its own merits, and will be retained or deleted accordingly. The examples you listed were not written by parties affiliated with the companies, and cite reliable sources to verify that they are notable enough for inclusion.
  4. We have no interest in what a company wishes to say about itself; writing about your own company is an inherent conflict of interest. And if it is not notable, then using Wikipedia to publicize your company's existence to the world is promotion, whether or not you believe it to be. Readers expected plainly factual articles about notable topics, reliably sourced and neutrally worded, written independently of their subjects.

  • I think that you confused creating an article with creating an account. You edited your user page, which is not article space or space to draft an article; it is a place for the named user to tell about themselves as a Wikipedia editor. New users cannot directly create new articles in article space and must first gain experience. 331dot (talk) 17:06, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
