Should we get a range block

[edit]

Hi Loopy30, BilCat, Thomas.W I did a bit of research since the editor we just dealt with reminded me of someone in the past and it seems that the editor is a long term abuser. I have now listed multiple IPs confirmed and suspected and one blocked account which belong to the editor in question. There is a long term pattern of editing pages Al-Khalid tank, List of main battle tanks by generation, List of military equipment manufactured in Pakistan, CAC/PAC JF-17 Thunder, Equipment of the Pakistan Army. Do you think we have enough evidence to get a range block? Also feel free to contribute to the page if you ever revert or come across the IP editor again. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk)

Range blocks are generally difficult to get due to collateral damage to other IP users. That said, getting individual blocks as needed should be pretty easy considering the racism and pointy-ness today. - BilCat (talk) 22:52, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Adamgerber80, I don't know if this helps your investigation at all, but I have a list on my user page of IPs that have engaged in "numbers vandalism" of military equipment inventories. Many of those I listed seem to hold a strong pro-Bangladesh bias though, not Pakistan. User mfb has also tracked similar patterns among Taiwan-focused IP editors. IP user:124.6.238.133 deleted links to the (Indian) Arjun tank from the M1 Abrams, Leopard 2, and List of main battle tanks by generation pages today after increasing the Bangladesh inventory of VT-1As by 200. It's a bit like wack-a-mole, but we shall persevere and overcome. Loopy30 (talk) 01:31, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Loopy30 Yes I am intimately aware of the Taiwan based list and have updated it. For some time the there was a revenge streak against me from that editor. I think user:124.6.238.133 is a different editor which edit with a pro Bangladesh tilt and a set of target articles. The one here is different and has a pro Pakistan tilt with a different set of target articles. Adamgerber80 (talk) 23:11, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What would the range be? 5.36.* blocks way too many other IPs, 5.37.* is problematic as well, and the other blocks don't seem to be used often. --mfb (talk) 00:55, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Mfb I was thinking of 5.36.* as a start. The editor seems to be back on the same subnet again and this might be useful. What do you think? Adamgerber80 (talk) 23:11, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That is a big range, blocking many users, while only stopping a small fraction of the edits of this user. You can see what the admins think, of course. --mfb (talk) 23:17, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
