I am not a map person, but what do you think about this one? File:1730 Homann Map of Scandinavia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and the Baltics - Geographicus - Scandinavia-homann-1730.jpg. If you think it has a chance, you may nominate it, if you want that. I will probably not going to do that, but I think it might have a good chance... Hafspajen (talk) 10:52, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Hafspajen: I think where it's going to fall down on usage: It's only used in a fairly trivial way in one article. The map's great. Adam Cuerden (talk) 10:57, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Hafspajen (talk) 11:01, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bonus bridge

@Hafspajen: First is lovely, but camera wasn't quite good enough for FP - very soft at full res. Second a bit under minimum resolution, but if we could get it bigger, we should go for it. It's the left image of a triptych, so stitching might be enough. The third image appears to be a religious procession, probably Easter or a Saint Day. Resolution strikes again, though. I love all of them, but doubt they'd pass FP. =/ Adam Cuerden (talk) 22:07, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Observe:

Yes, notice it, there are several, and that was only a third... OK. I was only thinking about nr 1, the rest is just for fun. But this is interesting, though. File:Beijing China Forbidden-City-01.jpg . And I fixed the article. Hafspajen (talk) 22:12, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2014 June newsletter

[edit]

After an extremely close race, Round 3 is over. 244 points secured a place in Round 4, which is comparable to previous years- 321 was required in 2013, while 243 points were needed in 2012. Pool C's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) was the round's highest scorer, mostly due to a 32 featured pictures, including both scans and photographs. Also from Pool C, Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished second overall, claiming three featured articles, including the high-importance Grus (constellation). Third place was Pool B's , whose contributions included featured articles Russian battleship Poltava (1894) and Russian battleship Peresvet. Pool C saw the highest number of participants advance, with six out of eight making it to the next round.

The round saw this year's first featured portal, with Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions) taking Portal:Literature to featured status. The round also saw the first good topic points, thanks to Florida 12george1 (submissions) and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. This means that all content types have been claimed this year. Other contributions of note this round include a featured topic on Maya Angelou's autobiographies from Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions), a good article on the noted Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický from Bartošovice v Orlických horách Cloudz679 (submissions) and a now-featured video game screenshot, freely released due to the efforts of Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions).

The judges would like to remind participants to update submission pages promptly. This means that content can be checked, and allows those following the competition (including those participating) to keep track of scores effectively. This round has seen discussion about various aspects of the WikiCup's rules and procedures. Those interested in the competition can be assured that formal discussions about how next year's competition will work will be opened shortly, and all are welcome to voice their views then. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. How about File:William Simpson - George Zobel - England and America. The visit of her majesty Queen Victoria to the Arctic ship Resolute - December 16th, 1856.jpg - as a lead  ? It would benefit from the size and it is horizontal. The Aral seea is quite disturbing, and they are pairs, so footer. Hafspajen (talk) 23:07, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good! And I'll be able to put the Fairytale of Kings as a side image. Adam Cuerden (talk) 23:08, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was hoping that Princess Tuvstarr gazing down into the dark waters of the forest tarn and Fairytale of Kings could be side images together, they would make a nice impression, since they are in the same colour-scale. (If there is room for them)Hafspajen (talk) 23:11, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at what I just roughed in as the side images. I might remove the Benchlerite, but I'll probably just try to give enough description to make room. Adam Cuerden (talk) 23:13, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We can go a little fantasy-style to lighten up the catastrophe... Hafspajen (talk) 23:16, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Think I need to crop that Banksia while I'm at it - Signpost side images look better in landscape. Adam Cuerden (talk) 23:17, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Looks great - Hafspajen (talk) 23:18, 30 June 2014 (UTC) wisperexcept that Bruegel ....[reply]
Second thoughts - If you must have Bruegel, put down on the page, beside the Aral - pic. It would make a nice symbolic statment... Hafspajen (talk) 23:22, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have a look at that once the text is finished; balancing out the sections tends to be the harder part, and it's better to have FA images next to FA text if possible - and outside of what I used and maybe the Hilda Rix Nicholas lead image, FAs are a bit sparse on usable images this week, though. Adam Cuerden (talk) 23:28, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And of course a bird is always a bird. Common kingfisher has nice bright colours / if place Hafspajen (talk) 01:27, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(That's my backup) Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:36, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was looking on it once more today, but I think that it became too dark now, somehow, needs some color. Chuch the king or the princess - and use the bird instead. Hafspajen (talk) 13:02, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The fringes of The Fringes

[edit]

Well, I gave it a (very quick) go, here. The only thing I'm not quite sure of is if you want to keep the OOF binding or not; I preferred the look without the big blurry area, but as you are scanner your opinion comes first. (As for how I did this: select by colour to get the whole background, invert selection, refine edge (gets a nice, non-jarring edge, with some feathering), cut and paste as a new layer, duplicate the background, paint that one black, and just refine the selection with the lasso tool set at Feathering=2). I think a couple of those functions are not available in GIMP, which sucks . Anywho, off to bed. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 17:18, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh yeah, I saved at 11 (GIMP 85 or so) to avoid the extra upload time. Doesn't seem to have been any noticeable artefacting introduced, since I was working from your PNG). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 17:19, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit worried that might neaten up the work too much: I mean, it doesn't have depth anymore, whereas the original does. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:56, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Crisco 1492: Hmm. I'm not sure, but I'm perfectly fine with that as an alt. Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:15, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for sculptures

Cupid

This sculpture on wiki looks like the painting above... Hafspajen (talk) 12:04, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What I mean that thre are two different pictures on the same filname, Cupid by Bertel Thorvaldsen, Located in the Thorvaldsen Museum, Copenhagen... and this one on your talk page. Hafspajen (talk) 23:38, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There are, of course, conventions in art - standard layouts, ways of identifying a character, conscious imitations of a famous work to make the reference clearer that eventually make the depiction even more the default. It wouldn't surprise me if that was happening here. Good photo of the statue, shame about the JPEG artefacts. Adam Cuerden (talk) 00:04, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, probably no good to us, but I would still like to use it in the article... and I can't. It is this picture to the right that is coming up instead. Hafspajen (talk) 00:23, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I understand now! Hold on, I'll disambiguate. Adam Cuerden (talk) 00:27, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Scanning question

[edit]

Question for you. I'm scanning a (reprint of a) 1930 poster for Dardanella's Dr Samsi, but I've got some bleedthrough from the following page in the book. Commons recommends putting black paper behind the page I'm scanning... does that work very well for you, when you scan works like Puck? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:48, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It depends, but it generally works well, or at least helps. If the ink has bled through to the other side, you're screwed either way, but if it's just thin, it works superbly. Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:53, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think it's just thin. Alright, I'll go out and buy some paper to at least minimize it... I can digitally take care of whatever remains. (BTW, I think 2400 DPI may be a bit much... 16k pixels?) Maybe next time I'll just stay with 1200 DPI. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:57, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there is a limit beyond which you aren't really adding data. Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:58, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. You know, given the goals of the Lontar Foundation, who published the book, if you could get in contact with them, particularly if you got Jimbo Wales or the like to ask them to contact you, I'd bet they'd be delighted. Adam Cuerden (talk) 03:00, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've actually worked with them before. Wikimedia Indonesia trained some of their staff in writing Wikipedia articles (results of the program include Djenar Maesa Ayu, Ahmad Tohari, and Armijn Pane), and I helped train those who were writing in English. They also sent a scan of a Poedjangga Baroe cover when I wrote that (they did the Indonesian version... originally).
As for the halftoned text... yeah, I'll probably try and find a way to minimize halftoning once I do a scan that's worth editing. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:03, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See if you can get them to let you use your scanner, if they're near enough. It'd be lovely to get a ton of Indonesian FPs. I'd certainly help with the restoration. Adam Cuerden (talk) 03:14, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • (ec) I could probably argue it, though I'd have to bring the scanner to Jakarta to work on it. Alright, thanks for all the feedback. Need to get back to RL for a bit (writing a journal article on Tohari's Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak as an attempt to answer the "Chinese Problem" of New Order Indonesia) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:20, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • It looks about as good as you'd expect, given the amount of halftoning. If you want to improve the images, you'll need a better original; there's only so much detail you can add back. Adam Cuerden (talk) 11:46, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On which subject, this mean anything to you? http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/90709854/ Adam Cuerden (talk) 03:17, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bonus picture

Well it is much better than the selfportrait as skull. And yes, it is a good portrait. It looks calm, centered, thoughfull - and interesting. It is like a portait of a man that had the genius of painting all those beautiful pictures. It is not just like, hey, today I will sitt down and paint a masterpiece. Good luck, try that, but it will not work. It doesn't work like that. Or you have it or you haven't.

So, start praying that they may stay. Hafspajen (talk) 05:11, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Hafspajen: Awesome! Let's give it a week, then nominate. Poke me if I forget. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 22:46, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, you're really good at finding interesting images. Have you ever poked around the Library of Congress site? Adam Cuerden (talk) 22:57, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, where is that? And - why is this file File:Edouard Manet 004.jpg been superseded by File:Edouard Manet, A Bar at the Folies-Bergère.jpg + It has less pixels, 1,600 × 1,188 pixels. I was thinking about nominating it, but can't find any good files. Hafspajen (talk) 14:18, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

On the second point, I'm going to guess colours. Doesn't mean the superseded one is correct colours, though; a lot of people just decide that they should be fixed.
On the first point: The Library of Congress put scans of a lot of their content online. Here's some I've done restorations from since the start of the year: File:Sidney Hall - Urania's Mirror - Auriga.jpg, et al.; File:Mathew B. Brady - William Sidney Mount.jpg; File:Thurston_the_Great_Magician_-_Strobridge_Litho._Co..jpg; File:Thaddeus M. Fowler - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 1902.jpg, et al.; File:William Simpson - George Zobel - England and America. The visit of her majesty Queen Victoria to the Arctic ship Resolute - December 16th, 1856.jpg; File:Gaspare Fossati - Louis Haghe - Vue générale de la grande nef, en regardant l'occident (Hagia Sophia - Ayasofya Mosque nave).jpg; File:William McIlvaine - The Chickahominy - Sumners Upper Bridge.jpg; File:Detroit Publishing Company - Rotterdam - Delftsevaart, c. 1895.jpg; File:Braxton_Bragg.jpg; File:Maull_&_Fox_-_Fanny_Bullock_Workman.jpg; File:Sébah_&_Joaillier_-_Sultan_Mehmed_VI.jpg.
So, a lot. Here's a few I've been eyeing. [1], [2].
Here's the main search page. There's a few other sections, but this is arguably the main one for us: http://www.loc.gov/pictures/
MM. I can see this is your main source of images. Hafspajen (talk) 17:55, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
More pixels but...
I think this one is better even if it has less pixs

This is beautifulHafspajen (talk) 18:10, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And it has an article, Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall, which makes things much, much easier. Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:47, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now, the problem is, Adam, that I have no idea how to upload a picture - never learned. And blast all skulls, please - nominate SOMETHING, anything - so I don't have to watch that thing - - are we after a selection of best sculls in art? or what. Isn't enough with one? Hafspajen (talk) 19:59, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I found a gory picture of a skull and nominated it. Adam Cuerden (talk) 20:26, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Et tu, Brute... Hafspajen (talk) 21:28, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Adam, I really can't see any serious problems with this painting of Raphael. Am I wrong? Hafspajen (talk) 16:55, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Hafspajen: This one? I think that you could possibly argue it's been brightened too much, but I'd say that's more a case for suggesting File:Portrait de Jeanne d'Aragon, by Raffaello Sanzio, from C2RMF.jpg as an alt than opposing. Adam Cuerden (talk) 17:03, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, suggest all - BUT I already see people saying - that frame, uuuuu. If it is not the brightness then it will be the frame, nowadays everywhere. I really think that it is a great portrait. Hafspajen (talk) 17:06, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ahem, ahem, ahem- .. hm - they did it are all still there. Except that I was a happier editor for a week ago, I remember how I was feeling last time I edited this page - it doesn't feels like that, now any more. One of my nomination after the other going down the drain - not exactly something that makes one happy and optimistisc - and all this quarreling -ugh. Hafspajen (talk) 03:09, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, just give it a week. FP goes through mercurial periods... Adam Cuerden (talk) 04:34, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like I need might to go away soon again - if that will go on, Hafspajen (talk) 22:16, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Has it been continuing? Adam Cuerden (talk) 22:23, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FC

[edit]

Hey Adam, I've finished the FAs for this week and am going to publish. Can you finish up the FPs? Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 01:36, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@The ed17: I'm working on it, but found an issue I was just fixing. There's about twice as many FPs as other FC this week, and they're slower, since you have to figure out the subject and what tack to take. Adam Cuerden (talk) 02:12, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re:William Crooks

[edit]

William is in the article infobox William Crooks (locomotive) now. This looks super! Thanks for all the work you did to make it look so great! We hope (talk) 22:04, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@We hope: You're quite welcome! Let me know if there's anything else of note. By the way, you can see the N.J.L. & M. Co. Paterson from File:Minnesota Historical Society dismantling William Crooks.jpg on the new image if you look closely. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 22:14, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Comparing the other photos we have to the LOC one is how I was able to say this was the William Crooks. The LOC titled the photo "Train in Station". :) We hope (talk) 22:20, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Re: documenting-will do. We hope (talk) 23:41, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See if what I've added helps. We hope (talk) 01:46, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

fascinating pictures
Thank you for a wealth of featured pictured adding to the quality of articles, for appreciating the pictures of others, and for substantial reviews for the benefit of the article in question, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

A year ago, you were the 558th recipient of my PumpkinSky Prize, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:38, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much! That's really kind of both of you. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 14:04, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adam, it say: If a nomination is reasonably old and is 'neither obviously going to pass' (i.e. consensus + 5 or more supports) 'nor obviously going to fail (i.e. at least 2 oppose votes and no supports outside of the nominator), it may be listed here.

That means: - one should not add if: it has 5 suports and it obviously going to pass - and don't add if it has 2 oppose or only supported by nominator. Hafspajen (talk) 15:44, 29 July 2014 (UTC).[reply]

No, "and" is not the same as "or". It's saying that BOTH "at least 2 oppose votes" as well as "no supports outside of the nominator" are necessary for it to be excluded. Adam Cuerden (talk) 15:55, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is not I got out of it. You mean that you should added all of them that has 2 oppose votes???
As I got it it say: if it is reasonably old , it should be added, - but not if _ has already 5 votes - of course -, or if is obviously failing: has 2 opposes or has nothing but nominators suport.

Crisco 1492 reverted my edits anyway. Looks like he is good att deffending the wrong person, but not when he was needed. Hafspajen (talk) 16:10, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And is and, or is or. If the condition were either or, then it would be and/or. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:27, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hafs, this isn't about Coat. I generally just put everything into the list in chronological order, with the occasional exception for ones that are currently, say, sorting something out, or fairly obviously have no hope. Before we can deal with the situation with you and Coat, we need to deescalate it.
Opposing a nomination need not lead to rancour. I've spotted problems with Crisco's nominations before, and he with mine. But the key is to keep the focus on the image itself. "Oppose - it has a yellow cast, which I don't think is in the original." is fine. "Actually, it's not uncommon for images to get a yellow cast from varnish, and it's generally accepted that we'd prefer an exact representation of how it looks now for paintings." is fine. If I might suggest, how about you and Coat agree to only use simple, declarative sentences or simple questions about the image on each others' noms for a bit? It should help. Adam Cuerden (talk) 17:04, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. I've already discussed this editor with his mentor elsewhere and I don't think there is anything that I can offer further. That yellow cast didn't come from varnish but from digital processing. I made what was essentially your suggestion on my Talk page here. The editor's response was very far from constructive. Error in the July 30th draft Signpost

[edit]

Hi. Hope you're well. I just noticed that the featured article, The FP, was incorrectly attributed to user, Nikkimaria, when the nominator was actually the user, Corvoe who is now known as Sock. Hopefully, there's time to correct. Cowlibob (talk) 18:58, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Plenty of time. And feel free to just edit it next time. Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:00, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's good to know, will do in future. For some reason, I thought only the named editors were allowed to edit the Signpost. Cowlibob (talk) 19:04, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, no, it's fine. In fact, for things like Featured content, if you ever want to do a chunk, just do it and then add your name to the list of authors. Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:07, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Thank you very much for catching that, Cowlibob. And Adam, thank you for featuring it in the Signpost! I don't mean to come off critical, but I'm extremely confused on the blurb about the article. You state that it was a "mainstream film", it could be "deemed succesful", and it made "a small profit". The film was made on a budget of $45,000, was released in less than 30 theaters, and didn't even make $41,000 at the box office. The film lost money, was far from mainstream, and was not deemed successful, critically or financially. Why did you choose to describe the film this way? I can always be wrong, which I may very well be, but the description appears incorrect to me. Sock (pka Corvoe) (be heard)(my stuff) 19:09, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As Adam as replied above, you can edit the description of the article in the Signpost. In fact since you wrote it, you're probably best placed to describe it. Cowlibob (talk) 19:16, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhh. I see what he meant now. I did not comprehend that reply at all for some reason. Thanks again! Sock (pka Corvoe) (be heard)(my stuff) 19:23, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Two quick points: I'm, afraid I can't defend the FA blurb, because The ed17 did FAs this week. Secondly, let me finish the FPs first, because we'll get a lot of edit conflicts otherwise, then I'll look this over. Just put any rewrites here for the moment. Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:27, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I saw this message after I'd already re-written the blurb. I'm sorry if/when I cause an edit conflict, I wouldn't have changed anything if I'd spotted this sooner. I've undone my edit and am pasting my suggestion here: "A little-known, low-budget, low-grossing film with a small cult following, The FP follows gang members who fight using a Dance Dance Revolution knock-off. Taking in just over US$40,000 at the box office (including one weekend total of just $93), The FP has gradually gained fans since its 2011 premiere at South by Southwest. Its bizarre dialogue and premise have divided critics and audiences alike." Sock (pka Corvoe) (be heard)(my stuff) 19:33, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've pasted it in. Thanks! Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:35, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sock, brilliant. I wrote those descriptions perhaps a bit too quickly. Thank you for your help, and don't be afraid to jump in and edit future editions! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 02:17, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@The ed17: Thank you for the kind words! I'd actually be happy to hop in, this seems like a fun project. Sock (pka Corvoe) (be heard)(my stuff) 13:29, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

For the work on the Skelton photo! Have something which you might be interested in. In 1894, Southern Pacific brought out a new train from New Orleans to Los Angeles, the Sunset Limited. To promote the train, the company gave away die-cut "standees" of the locomotive and all the train's cars. Not sure if this was originally meant for children, but the railway got their "pitch" in on the back of each of the die-cuts. When these came up at eBay some time ago, I grabbed all of them and uploaded the largest files I was offered. We hope (talk) 22:21, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Those are lovely, but I do wish someone would point out some of these ebay things. It's frustrating to see something that went for only a few dollars, but would've been amazing at high-res. Adam Cuerden (talk) 22:58, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Only a few dollars"... until you add the shipping costs. I bought a three-pack of Michael Crichton books back in... 2005, I think. The book was a buck. Shipping was 15 or 20. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:47, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'd just have it sent to my mother in America. Adam Cuerden (talk) 04:32, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • This was back when I lived in Canada. If I had been already in Indonesia, it wouldn't have just been $15. — Crisco 1492 (talk)
FWIW, some sellers either won't ship outside of the US or charge horrible shipping costs to Canada because they don't want to fill out a declaration form. When the folks in SK have this problem, they send it to me and when we have enough for a shipment, I send it out through UPS. Have gotten pretty good at the international codes over time. :) We hope (talk) 13:20, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pretty sure that's what it was (and yet it's a hassle, as my house is literally less than 5 miles from the US). (SK? So SK says that could be South Korea, Slovakia, and Saskatchewan, among others; my bet is the Canadian province) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:11, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yep-Regina, SK :) We hope (talk) 14:05, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

POTD

Hi Adam,

Just to let you know that the Featured Picture File:Pach Brothers - Benjamin Harrison.jpg is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on August 20, 2014. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Template:POTD/2014-08-20. Thank you for all of your contributions! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:45, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nice job! Looks great! Though the lens flare on the paint is not completely eliminated, but it is barely visible. Nikhil (talk) 02:02, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Nikhil: Do note he's holding a coronet under the lens flare. It's barely visible due to painting darkening and the angle causing a fair bit of light to be reflecting off the paint. Is that it, or is there something else? Adam Cuerden (talk) 02:08, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Adam Cuerden: I didn't know what he is holding in his hand. But now that you mention it, I see, may be due to the angle, the flare is barely visible. Anyway, great job!. PS: you pinged the wrong user there! :P. Nikhil (talk) 04:25, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, crap! Still, if you can see anything that looks removable, if you can mark it on a detail of the image, I'm happy to have another go. Just want to make sure I get it right. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 04:31, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
