Your username and edits

[edit]

Recent edits at American College of Pediatricians drew my attention and in reviewing the recent history for the page I noticed your user name. Wikipedia is a natural 'focus' for people with diverse motivations. As you might imagine some of those motivations are less than golden. So... Wikipedia has had to define and enforce a number of rules that seem at times arbitrary, almost small-minded. But please grant that these have been developed due to the sheer pressure from the less than golden editors trying to warp Wikipedia to their goals. (Hey, I just developed a guaranteed perpetual motion machine and I'm putting external links in dozens of articles!)

Two policies/guidelines you need to review are WP:USERNAME and WP:COI. The former warns against user names that denigrate or advocate for organizations. The latter specifically talks about editing articles regarding organizations that you are a part of, or other relationships with the organization. You will have to change the username, I believe. And you will have to seek guidance (which then makes you a "good guy" just for asking) on how to approach editing American College of Pediatricians and other associated articles. I think I've heard that identifying your relationship on your user page may be sufficient. But please ask for advice from the conflict of interest people, cuz I don't know for sure.

Looking at the rules/guidelines pages, the first thing they say is "have you contacted the user letting them know there's a problem?"  :-) Hoping you'll stay awhile and help out, though there is a bit of a learning curve. Shenme (talk) 04:22, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
