Speedy deletion nomination of John Maine (disambiguation)
[edit]A tag has been placed on John Maine (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
- disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - MrX 16:31, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Aa42shirley, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to John Maine (sculptor) has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Mz7 (talk) 16:56, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Sir Horatio Bryan Donkin, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to contain material copied from http://bjp.rcpsych.org/content/74/304/NP.extract, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

- If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License and GNU Free Documentation License, and note that you have done so on Talk:Sir Horatio Bryan Donkin. Copyright problems: James Silk Buckingham and John Maine (sculptor)
[edit]Your addition has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Peter James (talk) 16:17, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
I reverted your recent edit to the article because you did not give a reason for the changes. Significant changes to controversial articles such as this should be done with extreme care. You should discuss any potential changes you wish to make on the talk page, and gain consensus from other members of the community. This is Paul (talk) 19:02, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Ikin
[edit]Hello Aa42shirley,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ikin for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ow@!s (talk) 11:38, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Ikin and A. E. Ikin
[edit]Hallo, I've come across Alfred Edward Ikin while stub-sorting, adn then the page Ikin. A few issues occur:
- Ikin isn't a disambiguation page. It's a surname page. For either of them it needs to have something more than a plain list of people with (or, in one case without) Wikipedia articles: it needs a recognisable structure (A-Z? date?), it needs the people's dates; it needs a description of each of them. It's not worth the bytes it occupies, as it stands. Please improve it.
- If A E Ikin is best known by his initials, then that's what the article should be called. If not, then if Ikin was a disambiguation page it should have the exact article title not a link via a redirect.
- Links to lists of his publications elsewhere are not suitable for a WP article. I've removed them to the talk page. You could usefully add some selected publications from these sources, but it's poor editing to just dump links to external lists into the article.
- Hadow report was a red link. I've changed it to Hadow Report, and linked that (singular and plural) as redirects to William Henry Hadow where the reports get a mention. PamD 12:25, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
