User talk:ASH BAKER
February 2020
[edit]Wikipedia is not a web host for holding personal web pages unrelated to work on building the encyclopaedia. You are, of course, welcome to make contributions to the encyclopaedia, in line with Wikipedia policies and guidelines, but if your purpose is to write a personal web page, then you would be better advised to use one of the many web sites which do provide that sort of service, such as a social network site or a web hosting service. Also, using Wikipedia for promotion is not permitted. JBW (talk) 16:12, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- Its not a personal page, its a business page for the promotion of ASH BAKER the artist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ASH BAKER (talk • contribs) 16:16, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- I've blocked you indefinitely for being here to promote an artist. PhilKnight (talk) 16:31, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- PhilKnight blocked your account while I was writing a message to you. The message is now perhaps redundant, but since I have written it you may as well see it, and it may also help to clarify the reason for the block. Here is what I wrote:
- OK, well that raises several points.
- Wikipedia is not a publisher of business pages, and editing for promotion is not permitted.
- If you are not Ash Baker then your user name is misleading, as it suggests that you are, so you should not continue to edit using that name. If you let me know another name you would like to use I can rename your account to avoid that problem. It may be a good idea to have a look at the user name policy, to be sure you don't choose another one with problems.
- Since what you say indicates that you are working for Ash Baker, you need to read the guideline on editing with a conflict of interest, and make sure you comply with its requirements. JBW (talk) 16:37, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- Another point. We don't have business pages. We have articles about subjects that meet our criteria for notability, articles based on secondary sources that meet WP:RS. Articles belong to noone. The applicable criteria in your case is Wikipedia:Notability (music) and I see no way he can meet them. Doug Weller talk 17:48, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 01:10, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
