Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, ARowntree, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as CineKink Film Festival, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may not be retained.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on CineKink Film Festival requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://cinekink.com/about-cinekink/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I added the stubs for the festival pages because they had been linked to the wrong festivals. With CineKink I had taken the generic description of the festival used everywhere. If this was wrong I apologize. ARowntree (talk) 19:11, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! While making article stubs to clear up misdirection regarding the festivals is not wrong per se, copying material directly from another source is a big no-no in Wikipedia, so please try to write them in your own words! Also, you should take a look at WP:COI as you seem to be writing about festivals/websites operated by you. CherylHew 01:39, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Film festivals don't work that way. You generally can't be nominated in a festival you operate. She also indicated that she was correcting links for festivals that her work was featured in. Jefferythomas (talk) 05:25, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes we submit our work through FilmFreeWay or Withoutabox like most. We don't run any festivals. I could upload a screen capture of the submissions page but I am not sure about the copyright issue. I was going to put in start pages for some of the festivals we were in but will leave that to others. ARowntree (talk) 00:06, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, ARowntree. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Sssh.com, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. GABgab 17:26, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have read through the conflict of interest guidelines and have been very careful to not do any other edits on the Sssh.com page other than correcting inaccurate information about the festivals that my work was featured in and I noticed that there was a request for images in the talk pages. As I am the copyright holder for all sssh.com images I don't see who else could upload them. ARowntree (talk) 17:35, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
