Mangalore
I cant read Malayalam . Is this മംഗലാപുരം Mangalapuram? --Deepak D'Souza (talk • contribs) 09:52, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- The redirect is necessary. Users like sarvagnya have a problem with everything that they percieve as a threat to thier culture. The only way to deal with them is to behave the way they do. Add the article to you watch list so that you will know when there are changes. --Deepak D'Souza (talk • contribs) 04:34, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Your changes to Malayalam language
I don't think that subtitles should be replaced with their Malayalam script equivalents. After all, this is English Wikipedia. You might want to check out Malayalam wikipedia. --vi5in[talk] 15:32, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- No problem :) --vi5in[talk] 21:52, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Userboxes
Hello Arun,
Those boxes are called "Userboxes". I see that you already have the Kerala userbox. If you want to make your own user box, you might want to look up the code for a similar userbox. For example, if you look here, you can see the code for the Kerala userbox. Using this, you can do something similar for your own userbox:
I am a Keralite. |
In wikipedia, most userboxes are being migrated to user spaces. So you can have a sub-page under your userspace where you can create a userbox. For eaxmple, one of my userboxes is {{User:Vivin/Userboxes/User US ARNG}}. So if you wanted to add a "Keralite Userbox" to your userspace, you could make one in {{User:ARUNKUMAR P.R/Userboxes/User Keralite}}. Of course, the link looks red now because there is nothing there. If you click on it, it will open up an edit window. Once in the window, you can copy and paste the code above (edit your talk page to see the code, otherwise it just shows up as a userbox) into the edit box. You will then have your very own userbox. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! --vi5in[talk] 16:12, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Arun, whoops! You're not supposed to edit an already established userbox, at least I don't think so! There has already been a consensus on that one and you probably shouldn't edit it unless you discuss it first. But don't worry, I know that you acted in good faith and that it's a genuine mistake :). I'm going to go ahead and add the userbox you created to your userspace, and edit your userpage to display that one; I hope you don't mind. Good job on it, although you might want to clear up the "ka" letter so it looks a little smoother, but otherwise, good job! :) Oh, and once again, if you have more questions don't hesitate to ask. --vi5in[talk] 15:14, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it! At Wikipedia we encourage everyone to be bold. You just made a genuine mistake; it's no problem at all. --vi5in[talk] 16:01, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Duplicate images uploaded

Hello Arun,
I'll try to do my best with that article. However, I am kind of busy at the moment so I am not sure how well I will be able to contribute. Rest assured, I will try and add some more information. I figure we could use the Kannadiga article as a template. --vi5in[talk] 17:23, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Arun,
- I saw your contributions. Good job! It requires a little bit of copyediting, which I will get to when I have time! I see you have met thunderboltz. He is a very experienced and helpful Wikipedia user and contributes a lot to Kerala-related articles. You can learn a lot from him! --14:59, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Arun,
- Good job on the contributions. I will do my best to copyedit the article, but work is keeping me rather busy at the moment :(. I'll take a look at the new article, but just a word of caution; it may probably get merged in to the main article (Malayalee). But it is good that you are taking the initiative. I do edit Nair and Ezhava. Actually, I haven't been able to work on Nair as much as I'd like to, mainly because of work. Right now I try to keep POV out of both these articles. --vi5in[talk] 15:08, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and yes you can add a link to Malayalam Wikipedia. I think it will be something like ml:നായര (for the Nair article for example). So for the Malayalee article you'd have it with ml:"malayalee" (but Malayalee spelt in Malayalam), right at the bottom of the page. --vi5in[talk] 15:10, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Kumble vs. Kumbala
I happened to run into your edits to this page. I'm a tad confused. You redirect Kumble to Kumbala, which causes a ton of information to be lost, another editor is having questions about the naming of the article. Could you please explain what the reasoning for you actions are, and if they are correct, can you ask for the article history and content of Kumble to be merged with that of Kumbala ? and admin should be able to help you. --TheDJ (talk • contribs • WikiProject Television) 20:59, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Pictures
Hello Arun! I noticed that you are working on the Malayalee page. Good work. But the two pictures you uploaded - Image:Arn-t.jpg and Image:Arn-k.jpg do not have their licenses provided. Wikipedia allows only free (as in non-copyrighted) images to be used. If you found these images on some website, then just leave the image as such, and it will be deleted within a few days. On the other hand, if you took the images yourself, and don't mind releasing it into public domain, then please edit the image's page and add {{gfdl-self}} to it. See here for more information on using images on Wikipedia. Keep up the good editing! Cheers!--thunderboltz(TALK) 05:48, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

- Hello again, Arun. Regarding the Malayali article, you can look at featured articles (Wikipedia's best) such as Tamil people or Iranian people for general article structure and style. Also, Wikipedia has a policy called Neutral Point of View. It stipulates that all our articles should remain neutral in its wordings. Sentences such as Malayalam cinema is on par with the best in the world or Almost everything about malayalees are unique should be avoided. They are relative, and do not mention who holds these opinions, and hence qualifies as original research. For this reason, only verifiable information, published in reliable sources such as newspapers should be included. Do take a look at Wikipedia:Simplified_Ruleset#Guidelines for writing high quality articles for a summary of all of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you have any queries, please dont hesitate to drop me a message on my talk page. I'm sure that with a little effort, we can develop the Malayali article to one of Wikipedia's best. Regards--thunderboltz(TALK) 06:38, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- PS: To make an automatic signature containing your username and date, simply type four tilde signs like this: ~~~~. When you save the page, it will get automatically converted.
- Hey! I never got back to you since your earlier message. I've been in a rather low editing spell lately. I'll hopefully recover by the end of this week. I'll join you in editing Malayali then. Also, you can call me thunderboltz or just thunder, if that is too much. ;-) Regards--thunderboltz(TALK) 07:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

List of Malayalee Names
Arun, the list of Malayalee names is probably not necessary. We could have a "List of Famous Malayalees". But making a list of Malayalee names would be difficult. I know, because I saw what happened to a "List of Famous Nairs". All sorts of people start writing all sorts of stuff in there. It just gets really bad. I would like to commend you on the effort you are making on the Malayalee page. No problem with adding it as Class=Start. And welcome back! :) --vi5in[talk] 15:12, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Re: Malayalees, Kannadigas
I've removed the entire section from the Kannadiga article. When you see content which so blatantly violates Wikipedia's policies, be bold and remove it. The Malayalee article is coming out well. I'll join in the editing in a day or two. Just a note about images. When you upload images that were not made by you, please be sure to provide a link to the site you found it from. This helps verify the copyright. Please do this immediately for Image:Arn-onm.gif and any other you might have uploaded.--thunderboltz(TALK) 14:36, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- Also, try to avoid sentences like Whenever the word- atheletics comes on to the mind of every Indians, the first name they remember is that of P.T. Usha. and Kerala politics is hot and always catches some kind of headlines. They are merely opinions and cannot be verified. We should avoid hype. Imagine such sentences in a traditional encyclopaedia like Britannica!--thunderboltz(TALK) 14:41, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- Please check the copyright status of this and this image. They might get nominated for deletion. Gnanapiti 19:33, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- We need proof that the uploader actually took this image as he claims. I can't believe that he actually he took that photo. It's an ideal candidate for deletion. I'm not sure about copyright status of this image too. Gnanapiti 19:38, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- Technically, the purchase of the image would work out similar to buying software from a store. You are entitled to "use" it, but not to distribute it. The copyright of the image still rests with Idea cellular. Since that is the case, you can put it up for deletion by adding {{db-author}} to the image's description page.--thunderboltz(TALK) 10:49, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Gnanapiti
Hello Arun,
I have been keeping an eye on the Malayalee article. I will watch it more carefully this time. If this person keeps harassing you, inform a moderator, or make a report on WP:ANI, but make sure that you have informed him/warned him a couple of times to stop harassing you. Thunderboltz will be able to help you more regarding the procedures for this. But rest assured that I am watching the article. I would edit it more, but like I said, things are rather busy at work :) --vi5in[talk] 15:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- I see that you have rendered some great suggestions to relatively new wikipedian about how to handle me. Truly a remarkable work, no doubt. But Im afraid it's not going to work until all image issues I have pointed out in your friend's talk page are resolved and fake references like these are removed from the article. I believe along with giving some valuable suggestions on how to handle users, it's also your duty to inform him not to upload any blatant copy vio images or include fake references. Thanks, Gnanapiti 17:22, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Arun, Gnanapiti has a point regarding the images that you have uploaded. You have to check the copyright status of these images. Are they free? Do you have permission to display them? Also make sure that your references are valid. --vi5in[talk] 20:37, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Citations
Arun, can you give me the book name, author, and page number of the book with the citations? I will take care of the rest. As far as the images, don't worry about it if you haven't uploaded them. If you found them on Wikipedia, it's fine. But if the copyright information looks fishy, you should mark it as such and put it up for deletion. For the other points, look up information on Kalaripayattu on Google. Also look up information about Sri Narayana Guru. You should be able to find citations there. However, a statement like "Kerala is the land of social reforms" is POV. You can say something like "A large number of Social Reforms have been undertaken in the state of Kerala". As far as the section in Kannadiga, I agree that it is perhaps better suited to be part of the Karnataka article since it seems to talk more about the state rather than the people. I may not be able to look into the article as much this week. I will do what I can though. :) --vi5in[talk] 15:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Re:
Sure. Have a look at my suggestions about templates in Talk:Malayalee. See what you think. Gnanapiti 05:45, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Reference
Do you know the exact name of the author? That is, do you know the current head of the Thiruvathamkur Rajas? Also, other than the preface, what is the exact page number? I will include this information in a reference. Don't feel bad about the situation with Gnanpati. Yes it is true that all wikipedians should be friendly to each other. It just seems like a misunderstanding, that's all. I let him know that you mean well, and that you are a new user. Keep doing the good work that you do :) --vi5in[talk] 16:35, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Mohan.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Mohan.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:22, 27 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sarvagnya 10:22, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for putting it up for deletion. I only hope that you didnt feel hurt. But the policies here really require that the content is free of copyright. Thanks for your understanding. Sarvagnya 11:09, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi!
Sorry Arun! I was away again this last weekend. I should have put that wikibreak sign on my profile! --vi5in[talk] 14:57, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- The Malayalee terms should be necessary as they already exist in Malayalam language, unless you are using the malayalam term to describe something. I guess you can put an image in the infobox, but it is not strictly necessary. It would be hard to find a single picture that describes a Malayalee as there are so many different kinds :) --vi5in[talk] 17:28, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi
I came across ur profile accidently. You are doing a good work man. Since u hail from Kasarkode i like to know couple of details. Like,
Is it true that kannada is spoken widely in kasargode? is it Tulu which is widely used other than malayalam? What abt this beary bashe? is it similar to malayalam or kannada?
Whats the mother tounge of malayali billavas? are they speak malayalam dialact or tulu?
can these beary people and malayali billavas unsderstand malayalam?
I am asking this because there are some protest by kannada acttivists agaian the influence of malayalam in mangalapuram. There were even trying cross over kerala boarder asking kasarkode merger with karnataka
thanks in advance Daya
Daya anjali 12:52, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Arun for ur reply. However i need to know one more thing like, during By-election in Ullal, the TOI newspaper, has given cast based split up of Ullal. In that they have mentioned cast called "malayali billavas". Is their mother tounge malayalam or tulu?
Daya anjali 06:29, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks arun. I have already replied to that guys.
Daya anjali 04:45, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Arun, The Kasarkode is not all an issue. I think, if someone starts this issue, there are multiple issues like belgam, kudagu, tulunadu which would be harmful to karnataka. Not only that eventhough physically being part of karanataka, many places doesnt have the status of logically being part of karataka. take the example KGF in kolar nd its sorrounding areas. The unofficial official language here is Tamil. So the case many places like chnitamani other bordering areas of AP where more people speaks telugu. This is the case of south canara and north karnataka. Yes i agree that kannada fundamentalism is growing... Now even people(from states) inside karanataka starts itself hating this because of this fundamentalism. earlier it was the case of Tamils. now kannadigas. ...So just forget barking. it will never bite... Daya anjali 04:56, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
hello, please find an article abt Tulu in http://studentorgs.utexas.edu/salsa/proceedings/2003/shetty.pdf
