List of people from Merseyside
[edit]Hi, thanks for all your edits on this page. As a rule, if a person is notable enough to have a Wikipedia page you can link to, they're notable enough to be listed on the article, so please don't remove existing entries. Usually, if someone edits the page and adds someone who doesn't have a Wikipedia page (and appears as a red link) they can be deleted. If you are adding people, can you make sure they are ordered by surname, please. You've added Ginger McCain in the C-section and Paul Barber in the A-section. Unfortunately, the page doesn't alphabetically order entries. Good spot on McCain and Barber, it's great to have people adding and updating the page! LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 13:16, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for messaging back that’s probably all I can add to the list now a glad the ones I have removed from list have come off , I have noticed on other city’s list it was done little more professional and listed people of have excelled in there own field , didn’t look good on liverpool having so many reality show contestant who didn’t even win it on the list ACtiling (talk) 21:50, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
Sorry did not put them in alphabetical order I did not know how to do that only knew how to replace names ACtiling (talk) 21:53, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
Mel c was born in whiston thsts in Merseyside? ACtiling (talk) 22:09, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
I'm not 100% sure whether Mel C counts or not, but I don't think so. Looking at Whiston and her bio on Wikipedia, she was born Jan 74 when Whiston was in Lancashire and Merseyside didn't exist as a county until April 74. If she was born there but grew up in Widnes then she wouldn't qualify.
There probably are a lot of reality TV stars on that list that are't notable, I'm not sure how relevant being in series 3 of the X Factor is now!
Just edit the section whose letter corresponds to their surname and put the entry name in there. If you get stuck or have any questions, drop me a message or post something in the talk page for the article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_people_from_Merseyside
You've made some good contributions there, I'd not realised most of the people you had added were from Merseyside. It's great to see the article being expanded. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 07:53, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Hi am Hoping you can help me I don’t want to remove any more people on Merseyside now I think it would be unfair, and could you put Arthur Wynne - inventor of the cross word puzzle innAlphabetical order foe me please ACtiling (talk) 15:37, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
I could have sworn I saw Arthur Wynne on that page a few weeks back, must have been somewhere else. Done now.LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 21:10, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
I want to add Arnold Dyson who won Mr universe in 1953 he is one of very few English men to have won it , unfortunately he has not got a Wikipedia which is a shame because he won it having beaten Sean Connery who later became James Bond , he won it wouple years after the famous vick reeves the Hollywood super of his time … is it possible for some one to make one for him I don’t know how to do it ? ACtiling (talk) 16:19, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Arnold Dyson definitely sounds like someone who should have a wiki page. I've created about 10 pages but never a page for a person.
The best way of doing it would be to copy a page of another body builder and change it. If you look on the menu, you'll see there's an option called 'Sandbox'. That's your person page for experimenting and building pages. Copy the source of the other page there and start editing. You'll need maybe 3-4 newspaper or reputable references to use for building the article. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 21:26, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Ok thanks il have a go and try it thank ACtiling (talk) 21:37, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- Please see WP:COMPETENCE. If you don't know how to edit properly, please learn how to do it - and don't leave a mess for other people to have to clear up. Thanks. Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:00, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your time fixing it for me I appreciate it, am sorry for leaving it like that , for months have asked everybody I meet did they know how to edit Wikipedia so I can add people and remove people but know one knew it was the only was I new how was to edit people out and replaced people, I feel a lot better now I have done it now because liverpool list was awful so underwhelming have added over 60 people myself, and removed people who been in Reality shows celebrities that are famous for nothing and people off Grange Hill brookside hollioaks ACtiling (talk) 21:07, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Before you try making too many more edits, it may be a good idea to start at Help:Getting started, or at the welcome message up above, and see if the material there is helpful. Thanks for your input though! Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:33, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Ok thanks I think that’s me done now I think , ferranti is the only one in the wrong place just saying , il look at that thanks 🙏 ACtiling (talk) 21:44, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
I've reverted your most recent edit, as it was malformatted. Please learn how to edit (there are many useful links in the welcome message at the top of this page), and preview your edits before saving. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:57, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- Am sorry I had a go how to do it and did not work right way could you have not of put Jim Bowen on the list the right way rather than deleated it ? Thanks ACtiling (talk) 10:01, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- As other editors have pointed out previously, it is not our job to clear up your mess. I have also removed a heap more entries which you had put in the wrong sections. When you have learned how to edit you can put them back in the right places. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:13, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Can’t you put them in right place rather than deleated my additions ACtiling (talk) 10:10, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- Perhaps we need to get an administrator to give you a temporary competence block from editing in article space, while you learn how to edit and test things in a sandbox in your user space? Then when you have demonstrated that you know what you are doing you can request an unblock. - David Biddulph (talk) 10:19, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Well thanks for your help only trying my best to help Wikipedia and to improve the list ACtiling (talk) 10:20, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Did. Ot think there was any need to deleat my additions just because they was not in Alphabetical order they was good additions them ACtiling (talk) 10:53, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Out of order just being nasty it’s obvious thst you are not from liverpool and don’t like liverpool people ACtiling (talk) 11:42, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
I have improved this list enormously before my editions quiet a few was not even from Liverpool you left petty liverpool criminals on the list .. and I don’t like unproven Allegations about Tommy smith on Howard Gayle Wikipedia you are happy to leave thst on!! But are tearing me as if what am adding is wrong ACtiling (talk) 11:50, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
So this had nothing to do with me putting them in not Alphabetical order you just done want me improving the list on liverpool people have added 60 names on the list why done you deleted them all soon as you don’t like Merseyside list ACtiling (talk) 12:06, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
You have put back on a group who know one as even heard of in Liverpool and have had no commercial success.. and took off what I replaced it with and hi am mot happy about this situation ACtiling (talk) 12:17, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Perhaps we need some one from Liverpool or Merseyside checking this list instead of some one from London or Harrow who is into rowing 🚣♀️ Who is obsessed with checking this list am sure the must be millions to look at abs check in Kendal or Harrow for you to delete instead of keep looking at Merseyside list , isn’t there a Merseyside or checks this list ACtiling (talk) 15:44, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
- When you added Neil Aspinall - who was born in Wales, by the way - you removed Blanche Atkinson. Was there a reason for that, or was it simply more sloppy editing? Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:12, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Build a Wikipedia page for Arnald Dyson the body builder
[edit]I want to know or get some one to show me how to do it or some one to do it for me ACtiling (talk) 20:00, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
You need to create your own user page, then you'll have access to the sandbox where you can start work on a page. Try: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:ACtiling&action=edit§ion=0 LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 22:58, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- No, there is no need to create a user page before creating a user sandbox. The OP can create a draft either in Draft: namespace or in user namespace. He can create Draft:Arnald Dyson or User:ACtiling/Arnald Dyson or User:ACtiling/sandbox. Before doing that, it would be wise to read the advice at WP:Your first article. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:07, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
Why are you deleated my good editions just because they are not in Alphabetical order ? If you can remove them and put the old irrelevant ones back in place can’t you just put mine in the right place ?? ACtiling (talk) 12:00, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
Why don't you put them in the right place to start off with? LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 14:18, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
Am sorry I don’t know how to do it, I have deleat loads who really should not be on there and added some really good ones .. my cousin is a computer or or works with computer abs going to ask him to show me how .. but my aim was to remove Some like people who was not from or born in Merseyside and placing mine in it was the only way I know how .. the list when I first seen it was really underwhelming to Merseyside have added 60 names or more am sorry if you think am being a nuisance or disruptive this as been. Right up my tree thinking of names to add to it .. I been looking at Glasgow’s ans Birmingham and it was a list done with more thought than Liverpool’s so wanted to improve it ACtiling (talk) 14:29, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
If you're stuck, drop a message on my talk page, I'm happy to help. You've made some good edits, you just need to make sure you're making them in the right place.
If you want to add some one, scroll to the letter section that matches their surname and click to edit. I learnt most of my editing by fiddling and make mistakes. Make use of the 'preview' before you actually make your changes, it's a good place to spot and typos or formatting errors. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 18:26, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
Can you put Charlotte lottie dod on the list for me then? ACtiling (talk) 20:34, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Here, and elsewhere, you have again removed individuals from the list with no explanation, and added new people in the wrong place alphabetically. Stop doing it. Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:46, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Please, stop trying to pursue arguments through edit summaries. The article talk page is the place to discuss changes to the article. I am sure you mean well, but, as before, some level of expertise and competence is required. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:49, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- I would like to endorse Ghmyrtle's last remark. If you are invited to
take the whole thing to Talk and gain consensus for your suggestion
then that is a sensible idea. It is not an invitation to just make the same edit again and argue it in the edit summary. Please please learn to use Talk pages. Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 18:54, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:27, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
Ok hopefully they will see what a good job in improving and updating Merseyside and Appreciate list that I am proud of being involved in , and I hope you have took on board some of the points I have raised that can make Wikipedia better in the future . Shame my harmless real intrest in liverpool history and Wikipedia has become a “issue” Thank you . ACtiling (talk) 08:52, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
- As an administrator here, I have to say that I think your approach to our Project has, indeed, become an "issue", as you call it. We all want Wikipedia to be better (including you), but that can't be done with someone running around like 'a bull in a china shop' adding and removing stuff, posting a series of random comments, one after another after another on a single talk page and, seemingly, not listening or caring what other editors here are telling you. This is seen as WP:DISRUPTION, and I'm afraid we don't tolerate that, even if you think you're acting in 'good faith'. I accept that you think you're doing 'the right thing', but we really need you to slow down. You clearly don't care about notable people from the past, but everyone else here does. I suggest from now on you make a single, short (very short) edit to the article talk page and suggest what you'd like to change. More experienced editors can then consider and potentially act on your suggestions. This seems the best way forward to me right now. It's better than the alternative. Nick Moyes (talk) 00:04, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply yes will change my Approach and my apologies, il keep asking friends and others if they can show me how to add people just need to add a few musicians and footballer And boxers il be satisfied the hopefully. ACtiling (talk) 00:11, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- Why don't you list your suggestions here first, or at the article talk page? That'd make life for all of us a lot easier, I reckon. Nick Moyes (talk) 00:30, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

[edit]I see you've been having trouble editing the Merseyside list, and to be honest, I'm not quite sure what it is that you're finding confusing, but I'll try and help.
So, for Ken Nelson (British record producer)...scroll down until you find the 'N' section, as this list is alphabetised by surname. The first surname in the 'N' section is 'Nichols' and the last is 'Norris', which makes this almost impossible to mess up. Now you need to figure out where 'Nelson' should go. Start with the second letter of the surname; for 'Nelson' that would be the letter 'E'. 'E' comes before 'O' (Norris), so 'Nelson' should not be placed below 'Norris'. 'E' also comes before 'i' (Nichols), so 'Nelson should not be placed below 'Nichols'. Where do you think Ken Nelson should be placed in the 'N' section? – 2.O.Boxing 12:19, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Have just been the Apple shop and they showing me wish you said to me only have to press return at the end of the last one you was to right above thanks ACtiling (talk) 12:48, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- This is pure gobbledegook! It makes no sense whatsoever, either grammatically or logically. And who are you addressing this reply to? And why are you STILL having problems replying to people?
- You DO NOT reply to someone by starting a NEW SECTION like you have just done. You reply by clicking either the tiny 'reply' link at the end of the post you want to respond to, OR you click 'edit source' and add your response at the bottom of that thread. To force the text to indent, just add a colon : at the start of the line you want to move in. Replies are indented one level, so one colon is needed. You will find it best to preview what you've written in future to avoid nonsensical statements like this one.
- Perhaps you could you tell us what device and operating system you are using, or if you're on a mobile phone, or perhaps using assistance tools because you have visual or other issues? Using a computer in desktop mode should be a lot better for you, because you get to spot your mistakes more easily, though I use a tiny iPhone5 for many of my edits and have not encountered any problems. Hope this helps, Nick Moyes (talk) 15:58, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- I would suggest that the Apple store is not the best place to get advice on editing Wikipedia. Try asking us at The Teahouse for help or assistance in future. Nick Moyes (talk) 16:00, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
Alphabetical Order!!
[edit]I recognise that some people may be dyslexic or have a poor command of English, but I don't see any such declaration on your userpage. Please read and inwardly digest Alphabetical order. Your latest edit put the surname Dod after Dodd. Did you not appreciate or see that error? We can't trail round after you fixing all these fundamental errors - we need you to take responsibility for this unless you tell us there's an issue we need to be aware of. Thank you. Nick Moyes (talk) 20:27, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
Well am sorry if I made a mistake ACtiling (talk) 20:34, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- More than one, my friend - this is getting silly, and I still need to ask you to pay better attention whilst trying to improving this List article. I did a quick run through and I think you need to go back also also fix Jim McCarty who you inserted incorrectly in August
- And Simon Jones (musician) who you added in September.
- Plus Terry McDermott/Dave McCabe who you put in the wrong order.
- And Stephen McGann/Joe McGann which may or may not have been your mistake.
- And Len McCluskey who you also inserted incorrectly in September.
- And Nick McCabe.
- And Derek Mountfield
- Thanks. Nick Moyes (talk) 20:57, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
John Lyons is from Merseyside
[edit]John Lyons is from Merseyside my dad knew him well ! So it should say so ACtiling (talk) 21:28, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- No it should not!
- You are referring to my revert of your addition of John Lyon (boxer) to List of people from Merseyside. Wikipedia takes the view that no editor adds anything unless it can be PROVED CORRECT (See WP:VERIFY) by looking at published sources in the public domain. We don't care what you happen to know, or who your mates are. I'm sure what you say is may be true, but personal knowledge about something is 100% not a valid reason for adding something to Wikipedia. We need someone on the other side of the world to be able to obtain published information that proves whatever you add is correct by going online, buying a book, or visiting a lirbary to check sources. You either need the article in question to contain a cited source to prove that connection, or you need to add a citation here. You've done neither, and so it is not an acceptable addition. Do not do it again, please.
- I have to warn you that there are still concerns over your competence in editing Wikipedia, so we really need evidence that you are taking on board the things people are telling you, or you may well have your editing privileges withdrawn to avoid disruption. I really hope it doesn't come to that, because I can see you are trying to edit in good faith and we'd like this to not become a 'time-sink' for everyone else having to watch over your every edit.
