Windsor- Notable Businesses

[edit]

Does the source of, "I live in the town" work for you? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ABK20062 (talkcontribs)

  • Even for businesses listed in an article, Wikipedia standards of notability apply. There is no statement as to why these places are notable (H&H gas?) nor are there any reliable and verifiable sources documenting that these businesses in Windsor, New Jersey are notable. Unfortunately, the "I live in the town" standard would include anything and everything. I would be more than happy to assist you in adding sources from books, newspapers or magazines documenting the notability of these businesses. But without these sources, there is no justification for their retention. Alansohn (talk) 16:44, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Providing a link to a restaurant's web page does not establish that the restaurant is notable. In addition to the general WP:N standard listed above, I would suggest that you review WP:CORP. None of the establishments listed seem to meet this standard, though you might be able to provide independent reliable sources to establish notability, as required. Without these sources, tehse listings will be removed. Alansohn (talk) 23:36, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • These businesses are the only real businesses in the town. I would think that that would at least mark them worth being notable.ABK20062 (talk) 23:43, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • The WP:CORP page says, "Notable means 'worthy of being noted' or 'attracting notice.' It is not synonymous with 'fame' or 'importance.' Please consider notable and demonstrable effects on culture, society, entertainment, athletics, economies, history, literature, science, or education." I believe that any business in a town would exert deomonstrated effects on the economy, would it not?ABK20062 (talk) 23:48, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Refer to WP:N, which refines the definition of notability. Notability needs to be supported by independent reliable and verifiable sources, a standard that has not been met here. What you suggest is that every single business in every single place be listed. I can't imagine that there are more than a handful of notable gas stations, despite their growing impact on the local economy. If you can find sources supporting the notability of these individual establishments in newspapers, books or magazines, I would be happy to work with you to ensure that they are added in the required format. Without these sources, they need to be removed. Alansohn (talk) 23:54, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • I've read {{WP:N]], but I don't understand what an "independent reliable and verifiable source" is. Could you please explain?ABK20062 (talk) 00:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
