Formula One Grand Prix
[edit]See talk Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Formula One/Archive 54#Official names of the Dutch Grand Prix (and others).--Island92 (talk) 22:33, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Island92: I participated in that discussion... what in particular did you want me to see?? I see consensus there to remove these sections where they can be merged with the lead, and consensus to remove the stupid ones like "Grrrrrrand Prix". A7V2 (talk) 22:43, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- Well, see [1].--Island92 (talk) 22:49, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- So why did you link to the other discussion? Did you read it yourself? There is a clear consensus to remove these sections in most instances, but you want to override that with a discussion involving just two editors? I think this should be discussed on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Formula One. Also note that "uniformity" is not a reason to change these section titles BEFORE you've updated the sections. - A7V2 Were I to decide, I'd remove this section at all (called Official names or Title sponsors) from each Formula One Grand Prix article here on Wikipedia. For some Grands Prix (Mexican Grand Prix for istance) user @P199: completely removed the section because there was no title sponsor included, but left it where a title sponsor was included instead. What do we have to do now? I don't find it correct that some Grands Prix presents this section while others don't.--Island92 (talk) 23:01, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Island92: I don't think chasing consistency for its own sake is a good idea. What I do think is that we should follow WP:OFFICIAL#Where there is an official name that is not the article title. For cases where there are a lot of old official names, like the British GP, then I think a section listing these is justified. When there are only one or two, they should go in the lead. I believe that is what the discussion P199 referred to was leaning towards, but I think a new discussion is needed to reach a firm consensus. A7V2 (talk) 23:12, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- Absolutely. Island92 (talk) 23:14, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
