New area codes

[edit]

Please note these new southern Ontario area codes explicitly are not for Toronto. Toronto has its own set of codes. The new codes are for outside Toronto. Canterbury Tail talk 16:46, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I think there is some misunderstanding the CRTC Bell and Global news all have indicated entire Golden Horshoe region is getting this new Area code which Includes toronto — Preceding unsigned comment added by 942digital (talkcontribs)

The new area code "will only be assigned to customers once there is no longer a sufficient supply of numbers with the existing area codes – 289, 365 and 905", per [1]. Unless you have a source supporting that the area code is actually being used in all the places you have added it to, you should remove it. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:04, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note that 437 is an overlay for 416, and 742 is an overlay for 905 (see this map at CNAC for details). Edits such as this one are incorrect, as you've added a 416 overlay to an article about a municipality covered by the 905 code. I'm reverting your changes to these articles, but you're welcome to reintroduce the correct changes (and please ensure that the correct links still work). The new link should look something like this: [[Area codes 905, 289, and 365|905, 289, 365, and 742]]. Thanks. Mindmatrix 17:17, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mindmatrix: can you please explain why you reverted over 11 changes of mine?? as per CNAC the 742 area code and 365 ARE indeed in those areas that you have removed them from..

for instance those areas are indeed currently served by 905/289 and those number received an overlay of 365 AND 742 area code.

so I am perplexed why you have removed tham thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 942digital (talkcontribs)

I've replied on my talk page. Mindmatrix 17:39, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As an aside, you should sign your posts using 4 tildes at the end of your message, like so: ~~~~, as this automatically adds your username and timestamp to your comment. Mindmatrix 17:54, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mindmatrix: thank you very much for the clarification about the links, my apologies it was an unintentional mistake, I also would like to thank you very much for showing me the ropes to use wikipedia more effectively 942digital (talk) 17:58, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as at Talk:Toronto, (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:11, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnny Au: I already mentioned this above. Mindmatrix 17:09, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Brunswick area code 428

[edit]

Hello again! I noticed in this edit you added area code 428 to the infobox. Entries in infoboxes for settlements, municipalities, etc. should be for active (in-service) area codes, but area code 428 will not enter service until 2023 at the earliest. Keep in mind that this map is a list of active and pending NANPA area code implementations for Canada. You can get information about NPA relief planning activities here, or directly access info for area code 506. (Look for the latest documents in the set for the most up-to-date info.)

At any rate, changes for any New Brunswick articles you have updated should be reverted (undone), as they are not currently correct. Mindmatrix 17:09, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I made this change, which is what I think you were going for on the Haliburton County article. Mindmatrix 17:10, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes thank you @mindmatrix 942digital (talk) 18:56, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
