Entheogens and mindfulness

[edit]
Entheogens can supplement many diverse practices ranging from mindfulness to transcendence...

That doesn't sound right. Do you have a source? When you do mindfulness practices for a while, there really becomes no need to "do" entheogens. It's somewhat hard to explain, but it's like someone who doesn't drink or smoke being offered a beer and a cigar. They wouldn't know what to do with it. Then, of course, we've got the widely reported story of McKenna offering some kind of psychedelic (don't remember which one) to a Buddhist monk (from Tibet I think) who took it and reported it that it was nothing but the "lesser lights" of the Bardo. I'm thinking that if you truly have a regular practice of mindfulness, entheogens don't really supplement it, they distract away from it. The closest analogy I can think of is someone who maintains a healthy diet and exercises regularly and stays away from eating sweets. They love sweets, and they very much enjoy eating them, but they know that if they indulge their desire, it will weaken their resolve. That's not to say there isn't a place for entheogens; people use them for all kinds of things. What I am saying is that it is a bit of a stretch to claim that entheogens supplement mindfulness, and that people who have a regular practice will likely give them up because the benefits of mindfulness outweigh the entheogens.
