J.S. Bach

[edit]

Excuse me, but this letter written by J. S. Bach was fully vetted by Peter Schickele and even read by him in his "Bach Portrait." CD-80210. Forgive me for criticizing you in your attempts to rewrite history, but you are wrong and out of control. This is apparently a very complete translation. This is apparently a very close translation. There are very few writings from J. S. Bach. There is this letter, and there is also the other one concerning the receipt of a cask of wine from his cousin. Before you condemn, please get your facts straight.

I will further request that your attempts to rewrite history also classified as "misbehaviour and vandalism leading to destruction of wikipedia" as you so aptly put and would further request that anything further from you also "be nominated for speedy deletion. Not only do you not contribute to wikipedia, but also you destroy it, by spamming useless deletion templates."

Have you even read Spitta's biography of the great J. S. Bach? CarlParks (talk) 04:25, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello; first off, I've moved your post to a different category on my talk page for the sake of organisation. Secondly, I believe you grandiosely mistake my revision of your edit (which I thought to be vandalism) to be something of bad intent ("rewrite history"). I reverted the edit, because from its placement in the article and given its context (many vandals would post similar information), it appeared to be vandalism. Granted, now I know it is not, but even given the placement of the letter, it should not have gone in the introduction of the article, but rather in the biographical section. Thirdly, the "nomination" for my deletion was a harsh, and unfunny ad hominem from someone who had contested to my nomination for an article's deletion because of my misunderstanding on the article's notability (WP:NOTE). I apologise if my revert of what I thought to be vandalism caused offense, but please do not lambast me for attempting to "rewrite history." --DannyDaWriter (talk) 04:34, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have been nominated to be deleted from wikipedia

Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565

[edit]

Danny, I saw you reverted my change to the sheet music link for this piece. I changed this because the sheet music at http://www.classical-scores.com/free/bach-toccata-and-fugue-in-d-minor-bwv-565-idparteng-263.html has a lot of errors, making it unplayable. For example, the end of the second measure indicates B-natural in the arpeggio. In fact, it should by B-flat. Also, the first chord in measure 21 (on page 4) is missing several notes and incorrectly duplicates the same A note with both hands.

I haven't bothered going any further with this score (I was attempting to learn the piece from it). The score I linked to is more accurate.

Please reconsider re-adding my change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aaw (talkcontribs) 00:18, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If this be the case, I will revert my revert (lol repetition). Thanks for letting me know, and apologies for my stalwart revert. User:DannyDaWriter/Sig 05:22, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Please do. Or would it be preferable for me to start a discussion on the entry's discussion page? I'm not familiar with the rules of etiquette on Wikipedia. Ollie 08:02, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No discussion was needed - I thought it was a vandalism because of the unneat [sic] replacement of the link. I believe there is a neater template to use on linking to WIMA, but I have to find it. User:DannyDaWriter/Sig 15:45, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Buxtehude

[edit]

Excuse me again, but you attacked me first for my bringing up an inconvenient bit of history about J. S. Bach. Would you like to argue with me about the spelling of the name Dieterich Buxtehude, as well? Forget the spellings "Diderik" or "Dietrich"

He signed his name "Dietereich Buxtehude."

Danny, do you also want to dismiss this recent historical fact about Buxtehude as you did about my entry concerning J. S. Bach as:

Due to your recent misbehaviour and vandalism leading to destruction of wikipedia, you have been nominated for speedy deletion. Not only do you not contribute to wikipedia, but also you destroy it, by spamming useless deletion templates.

Frankly, I'm pissed. I'm also a past dean of the AGO. You do us all a disservice with this kind of crap.

Please refrain from this hogwash.

Carl Parks —Preceding unsigned comment added by CarlParks (talkcontribs) 05:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Danny,

Everything that I wrote was completely vetted and was even a part of Peter Schickele's Bach Portrait (CD-80210). You are a complete jerk and obviously not a historian. You attempt to rewrite musical history in your own image. Because of your your recent misbehaviour and vandalism leading to destruction of wikipedia, YOU have now been nominated for speedy deletion. Not only do you not contribute to wikipedia, but also you destroy it, by spamming useless deletion templates. Have you even read Spitta's biography of J. S. Bach? I think not. Before you condemn other contributors, Get your facts straight -- and quit being a jerk.

Carl Parks

Can you please read the message I've written? I've even moved it to the top of the talk page so that you can see. Cease and desist your name calling; it gets you no where, and makes you look foolish. --DannyDaWriter (talk) 05:16, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
NB: That comment (to which the absent heading Buxtehude has been added for the TOC) has been restored to chronological sequence by Deborahjay (talk) 05:34, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Your Apple //gs would necessarily have been made between September 1986 (introduction of the model) and December 1992 (discontinuation). Since it was a Woz signature edition, it was one of the first 10,000 produced, so it's probably closer to the 1986 date. So you don't have to be G_d to know at least approximately how old it is<g> - roughly 20 years old (Makes sense...Apple just turned 30, and the //gs was release on Apple's 10th anniversary). - Nunh-huh 00:40, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Gloriarv588ms129130.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:38, 6 October 2007 (UTC). Scores?

[edit]

Hi Danny.

I am a student myself. I'm a vocal performance major at OCU. How much do you know about getting scores of vivaldi's works. i've been having trouble with ricordi. I tried boosey and hawkes HOPING that they have materials to loan. I was looking for Bajazet specifically. I didn't really expect BH to help out, but I thought i'd give it a shot.

So I'm trying to get my hands on a Bajazet score. If nothing else some music for the aria dov'e la figlia.

Can you help me out?

Ah, thanks. Geez, I've been a Wikipedia user for almost 3 years, and I yet I some how don't know the procedure for image deletion. Ah well, we learn something new everyday. Once again, thanks. --DannyDaWriter (talk) 05:47, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, I removed this category from your userpage ([http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User%3ADannyDaWriter&diff=198163236&oldid=198095644 diff). As a general rule of thumb, that category is used to hold all of the various user categories, and not individual user pages (can you imagine how big the category might be otherwise!). Thanks for understanding, and have a great day. ^demon[omg plz] 10:28, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tag added to Stockhausen article

[edit]

I notice you tagged the article on Karlheinz Stockhausen with the citation-style template, but failed to explain your reasoning and recommendation for changes on Talk:Karlheinz Stockhausen. Since there are at least four different reasons for using that template, I have opened a discussion on that talk page in which I deduce what I believe must be the issue that concerns you, and present a case against any change. I hope that you (as well as other editors) will give your views.—Jerome Kohl (talk) 01:02, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

You seem to be undoing any changes I make to "atheism", I would like to know why you are undoing them, and why you think the opening line in that page describes atheism, and what are your sources. When I read it, the opening line seems more of religious propaganda then anything else, stating that all atheist have a "explicit position" in either one thing or the other, which is not the case. Greetings, DannyDW! Please note my comment following yours. While I firmly object to "trivia" in Wikipedia, as an inclusionist I would think a detailed list of renditions for an aria that's been transcribed and orchestrated for other than solo voice would be a relevant section for this page. I have yet to study the Manual of Style to know how this is properly done; do you have any experience to share? -- Thanks, Deborahjay (talk) 05:27, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Messiaen's Harawi--Doundou tchil

[edit]

The term "Doundou tchil" is not Quechua. It is, in fact, what the original writer of the article stated: "For example, the fourth movement, 'Doundou Tchil', uses these two words onomatopoeically to represent the ankle bells used by Peruvian-Indian dancers."

"Doundou" is a French example of onomatopoea, representing (for many years) the sound of a specific African drum. Occasionally, one will find references to this drum as "Doundou". "Tchil" is a French approximation of the sound of small bells, as we in the USA used to call "sleigh bells": small bells that give a small, shrill, tinkling sound. The words "Doundou tchil" have absolutely nothing to do with Quechua orthography, rather French approximations of drums and small bells. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BradyBeans (talkcontribs) 02:46, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's more or less what Bruhn describes in the quote I provided in the Harawi talk page. --DannyDaWriter (talk) 03:21, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
