Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, 7bench496. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 03:14, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your conflict with User:Namiba

[edit]

Hi, I've noticed the matter being raised on WP:ANI (no, I'm not an admin, I was checking on something else there) and thought I might help by clarifying a few things:

  • When he refers to "reliable sources", he is referring to WP:RS .
  • Trying to research the matter yourself doesn't help. Unless backed by WP:RS, you're falling afoul of WP:OR and WP:V
  • Subject lists are not what makes photographers notable by Wikipedia's standards - see WP:BIO
  • While article content itself is not subject to notability guidelines, it is still subject to WP:V and WP:UNDUE. As you may have seen on the other photographers' articles that you referred to, lists of their works tend to be reduced to noteworthy items (not subjects).
  • In some cases, if the list of works is particularly extensive, it may be spun off to a separate article from the biography itself - have you considered doing that?

There are a few items you should be aware of with regards to the relation you assert with the article's subject and your attitude on the matter.

  • You are in potential violation of WP:COI and WP:AB (in addition to WP:SPA). Both policies recommend that you refrain from making direct edits to the article and instead work through either its' talk page or the COI noticeboard.
  • Be aware of your own bias on the matter - see WP:OWN . The way you lashed out ticks several items on WP:OWNBEHAVIOR and WP:NPA#WHATIS .
  • Assume good faith - ask yourself if the objections he raised are legitimate concerns in the context of Wikipedia's policies.
  • If there is a disagreement as to the actions that should be taken, familiarize yourself with WP:DR and use WP:DRN/WP:DRR as intended instead of escalating into hostility.
