Information on appealing a block

[edit]

Hey! I appreciate you making an attempt to help that blocked user, but it's not actually not necessary to supply that information manually. The system automatically provides that information to blocked users, along with other relevant resources! See mediawiki:Blockedtext. That's why it's not required as part of block notifications. Just an FYI. Regards, Swarm 21:37, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's common courtesy to provide that information to a user you block using their talk page. You might no longer see any point in being courteous to blocked users but that's where the collaborative nature of the project often comes into play, like it or not. 78.28.45.127 (talk) 00:04, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, woah! What's with the attitude, bud? Your accusation that I'm rude to blocked users made me spit my tea all over this pristine, antique copy of The Aeneid that I was almost finished reading. If you knew how many hours I spend following up with users I block, you'd understand! For the record, I extended that user more courtesy than is required by typing out a personalized message explaining why they were blocked, rather than issuing them a standardized template. But, context is everything. Did it ever occur to you that it's counterintuitive to walk someone through a competence block appeal? Seeing if someone can figure it out without it being spoonfed to them is just about the most base measure of competence we can come up with, because it's not a hard thing to do. I'm sorry if you feel that's not "courteous" enough, but we're a little bit past that point when we brand someone "incompetent". I don't know where your bad vibes are coming from, but I hope everything's okay. I will pray for you bud. Swarm 22:37, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody's accusing you of anything; rather, a factual observation was made. The alleged lack of competence didn't pertain to the user's tutorial-finding ability so testing it in that manner's odd but I'm not here to judge. You do what you think's best, I do what I think's best and if one of us decides the other's behavior's becoming a tad too disruptive, there are ways to properly escalate. Personally, I see no need for it. Do you? Sorry about your tea. 78.28.45.127 (talk) 17:28, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
