Please stop edit warring on Template:Floruit. I'm not sure what you've done to the template over this past year, but what was once a very simple template is now incredibly complicated to look at. (If you've made the template better, then thank you. If you're keen on helping out on Wikipedia, I'd recommend signing up for an account, especially because it seems like you're editing from multiple IP addresses.) Anything that can improve readability in the edit window is a good thing, especially if it's removing needless markup.

  1. Writing <!--Begin--> at the start and <!--Finish--> at the end is completely pointless. Anyone can plainly see where the template begins and finishes.
  2. Using <includeonly></includeonly> around the whole template is only useful if the template displays poorly or confusingly on the template page. In this case, it doesn't.
  3. Examples belong in the /doc subpage. There are already examples there.
  4. Using a line break (<br />) at the end of a line is unnecessary if the break will occur automatically anyway.

I am trying to find where any of the first three points is considered anything but an opinion of how templates should be structured. I acknowledge your opinion, but I choose to disregard it in this case, unless you can provide any proof that my edits materially affect the template and/or its usage. As for the 4th point, if you find any superfluous line breaks, by all means remove them. 72.43.99.138 (talk) 22:16, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There is no binding policy or guideline here, it seems. The begin and end comments are not unhelpful. They are there for clarity, especially because of what follows: the syntax of the template at a glance, and also some quick examples of the diverse ways the template can be used. This way, advanced users will immediately get an idea of the template's capabilities and head straight to the appropriate sections. For beginners (the vast majority of editors) this slightly cryptic presentation is elaborated in detail in the doc. The template doc is written for first-time users. Any experienced user is given the hints mentioned previously. Anyone is free to write templates that the average user won't be able to make heads or tails of. The vast majority are (badly) written in an overly brief way for the seemingly small percentage of people that are already knowledgeable. This is not the case here. 72.43.99.138 (talk) 22:35, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Donner60. An edit you recently made to List of Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States seemed to be a test and has been removed. If you want more practice editing, the sandbox is the best place to do so. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Please do not introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did with this edit to List of Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them again. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. Donner60 (talk) 23:12, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
