Some sort of system error seems to have taken place. I can't edit the talk page of "Metrication in the United Kingdom" and a message about a "block" appeared. There were some instructions about adding this to my talk page when I didn't even have a talk page, but I seem to have created a talk page now. Will this re-activate or unblock something now?

We're pretty darn sure that you are DeFacto. I mean, what is the chance of a random editor coming to "Metrication in the United Kindom" and already knowing wikitext and policies? You're also doing the same things DeFacto was doing. BTW, Admins don't always have to put up a block notice. Your system-error story doesn't hold up that well, either. This is all very spooky. It has all gone haywire I think! Or is it some sort of game or initiation ceremony or aptitude test? I'm afraid I've failed. It all seemed so straightforward yesterday, in fact I thought it was too good to be true - and now it looks like it was!

Now I get these baffling gobbledegook messages from people or machines that I don't know about and haven't contacted. "We're pretty darn sure that you are DeFacto"? What exactly does that mean?

I still can't edit the talk page of "Metrication in the United Kingdom", despite having added that stuff to the bottom of my talk page. When I try to edit I get a page containing nonsense, malformed phrases, and contradictory messages, such as these:

- "You are currently unable to edit pages on Wikipedia" (Yet I can edit this one, at least)
- "Editing from 6 foot 6 has been blocked"
- "obvious sock of banned user DeFacto"!
- "This block has been set to expire: no expiry set"
- "If you have never edited Wikipedia before and/or do not have an account, consider creating one"!
- "The current block will automatically expire no expiry set."

Am I being a complete idiot and missing a clue that was completely obvious to everyone else? Do I need to create a new user id without a leading numeric, or without the spaces?

I've just noticed another strange and unfathomable message at the top of this page: "This blocked user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request." The plot thickens!

Facepalm Why on earth do you not understand the unblock decline? I'm pretty sure this is all trolling, but I'll explain for the heck of it. The guy who reviewed your unblock request is an administrator. How the heck do you come up with these conspiracy theories, anyway? The {{unblock}} template that you put up is an unblock request. So I was ritually blocked, fooled into adding something to the bottom of my talk page (now said to be an "unblock request"), and then that unblock request was ritually rejected by an "administrator". Why, and how do I actually get unblocked? And no, I didn't explain why I "went to the Metrication in the United Kingdom", I didn't know I had to. If that is part of the game too, the reason was that a Google search took me there yesterday afternoon. After reading some of the article I was determined to try and fix it (I knew Wikipedia was supposed to be editable by anyone). After spending several hours exploring the help system and following various links, I figured out roughly what I thought was the best way to tackle it: how to draw attention to the problem, raise a talk page discussion, sign comments, etc. So then I tried it. I was thrilled today to see some reaction to my attempts, and so continued with the dialogue. I don't really know "wikicode" as such, but followed the stuff about editing and markup, and the crude editor does give some help with it. I know of the Wikipedia policies from my link-following exercise yesterday, if that's what you mean. Am I unusually smart do you think, being able to start editing after a few hours reading? Question dodging? Trolling? Is this a spoof site? Have I crossed into another universe? I'm not sure what all the questions are about, or which one(s) you think I dodged. Or did you mean my questions were being dodged? If the former, please state the question(s) clearly and I'll do my best to answer it/them. I'm losing patience with this fiasco now. Perhaps I need to start again, and create a clean user id, ensuring that I follow all the instructions to the letter. Well that took a long time, but it all seems to be in order now. I had an email from them talking about an "autoblock", and stating that "you [me], the person who ran DeFacto, DaftEco, and 6 foot 6 are blocked". I'm not sure why I was mentioned twice there, or what that group represents, and cannot ask because it was from a "noreply" address. Perhaps they have all edited "Metrication in the United Kingdom" or have all used this IP address or something. Anyway, at least I have had the ability to create a new user id restored.
