RfC

[edit]

Really, please give it a rest. You're bouncing from noticeboard to noticeboard making demands. Tomorrow is another day, and doubtless somebody will bring something new up to argue about on that talkpage. Demanding a new RfC minutes after the previous RfC was closed, with very slightly revised wording, just wastes everybody's time. You're just bludgeoning discussions now, and in doing so have provided a solid justification for the protection. The closer deserves a medal for digesting all that. Acroterion (talk) 03:14, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ok then. Here's what I'm going to do in response to your snide, snotty remark and the rest of the arrogant, dismissive treatment.

I'm going to keep on improving Otter 841 when I get the chance. I'll also continue reading through random articles in my spare time, looking for poor quality writing, incorrect information and outright vandalism.

Only instead of making improvements and fixes like I usually do, I'm just going to take notes. I'll be particularly focused on documenting inaccuracies which could cause harm. Things like libelous content which could damage a person's reputation, or scientific or medical misinformation or disinformation which could harm a person's health.

I'm not going to actively contribute to any of that, mind you. But I'm not helping any more. I'm documenting instead. I'll be tracking the severity and time-to-live of harmful content. Maybe nothing will come of it and it will just be for funsies. Or maybe I'll compile a database that will test Wikipedia's Section 230 protection some day.

Either way, you've lost an ally and gained a detractor with time on their hands. I'm sure nothing substantive will come of it though. You'll be fine. 66.69.214.204 (talk) 08:35, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear, are you making a legal threat? Askarion 10:18, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a lawyer, a legislator, or an official, and I'm not connected with any. I don't have the means to file any lawsuits, pass any bills, or enact any regulations. And I don't make threats. But I do promise you that I have been and will be monitoring and compiling information as detailed above. So unless you view oversight and scrutiny as legal threats, then my answer is "no". 66.69.214.204 (talk) 13:41, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Saying that you'll be "monitoring and compiling information" which you consider libelous for the purpose of "testing Wikipedia's Section 230 protection" might still be considered a perceived legal threat, for future reference. You are also still invited to make constructive edits now, as well, and not simply monitor, if you'd prefer. Askarion 14:53, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If that's perceived as a legal threat, then the perceiver in question must really think I could document enough libelous content across a sufficient number of articles to 1) form a basis for a class action and 2) overcome the Section 230 shield. But that's impossible, right? That's actually no threat at all. You're fine.

As for your invitation, after the way I was demeaned, I have some colorful ideas about what can be done with that invitation which I will not spell out. But I invite you in return to use your imagination. 66.69.214.204 (talk) 20:21, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I wish you luck in whatever course of action you take. Before I go I'll ping @Acroterion because there's a chance they aren't watching this talk page anymore and won't see your message otherwise. Askarion 20:40, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
