My concern about your username (5bCA62g4tPa)
[edit]Hello, 5bCA62g4tPa, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!
I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?
I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.
You have several options freely available to you:
- If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
- If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as asking for a "third opinion", or requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Admins usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
- If you decide to just go ahead and change your username, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under the new username: simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account.
Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus -- either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! -- Flyguy649 17:49, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Specifically, appears to violate "Usernames that consist of random or apparently random sequences of letters and/or numbers or of extended repetition of a particular character." (see WP:U#Inappropriate usernames). Flyguy649 17:49, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Not at all... My name is 'Frank' and I have tried creating several accounts here with that somehow tastefully included with not a lot of luck. If you have any suggestions, or an inside peek into what might work here, that would be much apprec. The only reason I picked this, is that I knew it would work for the time being (it seemed kind of like someone has been trying to 'snake' all of the good names ahead of time just to be a prick). Sorry to draw your attention to this... in was NOT done to intentionally cause a prob for you. I appreciate your site very much —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 5bCA62g4tPa (talk • contribs) 19:07, February 20, 2007 (UTC)
First off, I'm just a regular user (who probably spends too much of his time editing Wikipedia, but that's another issue...), like you. I didn't think you choice of name was intentional. Just know that it is possible that an admin user could block your username because it is pretty clear that it violates the above rule. This would likely happen if you began to do edits. If you wish to change it, follow the proceedure here. Look at this to get an idea of what's allowed. Was any of your current username important somehow? How about something with Frank in it? e.g 'Franklymydear' or 'Let's be frank' ? Or a mixture of your name and the letter-number combo you have now? Something like that should be fine. I hope that helps. Regards, Flyguy649 19:20, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, yeah, you are right I guess. I will change that ASAP. Thanks for the heads up (and the link)—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 5bCA62g4tPa (talk • contribs) 19:27, February 20, 2007 (UTC)
No problem. Also you should sign your posts on Talk pages by using four tildes (~~~~) after your comment - this automatically adds your name, and a timestamp. As well, it is helpful to indent your replies to another user (like I've done to your replies here). This is done with the colon (:) at the beginning of the line. Doubly indented would require (::), etc. This makes it easier to read discussion. And while you're at it, you may want to check out the Welcome page for new users. Good luck!
