Administrators' newsletter – August 2022
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2022).
- An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
- An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.
- The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
- Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)
- The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.
- You can vote for candidates in the 2022 Board of Trustees elections from 16 August to 30 August. Two community elected seats are up for election.
- Wikimania 2022 is taking place virtually from 11 August to 14 August. The schedule for wikimania is listed here. There are also a number of in-person events associated with Wikimania around the world.
- Tech tip: When revision-deleting on desktop, hold ⇧ Shift between clicking two checkboxes to select every box in that range.
Hi!
[edit]Why did you delete my edits? Everything I edited is completely true. I updated the page because it was outdated and I improved a few things a little. I think this is the point of Wikipedia, that anyone can edit. If you can explain why you did it, I understand. LitkeySailing (talk) 12:24, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- @LitkeySailing: Hi LitkeySailing, thanks for reaching out. You are absolutely right that that is the purpose of Wikipedia and I don't dispute that what you added was true. The issue was that your edits were not properly formatted which rendered the entry list illegible and broke some formatting on the results table. I reverted them so that I could redo the update which I'm trying to do now.
Since you are new to Wikipedia, can I recommend having a look at the introduction to tables with wikitext? I would also recommend using the VisualEditor since it makes preserving formatting a lot easier. 5225C (talk • contributions) 12:34, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- Yes. Not everything works best from the phone. But I think it would be a much more humane and intelligent solution if you didn't delete my work, but looked at what the problem was and told me to fix it or you would fix it. And by the way, I'm not a beginner, I've never edited from a phone before. LitkeySailing (talk) 15:03, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- @LitkeySailing: You will be pleased to know I did look at what the problem was before reverting your contributions, but on the weight of it I thought it was better to have an out-of-date version that could be read than an up-to-date version that couldn't be read.
Your contributions are a matter of public record and anyone can check that your first edit with this account was yesterday to 2022–23 SailGP championship. Unless you have a previous account (which you would need to clearly declare under Wikipedia policy) I don't think I'm wrong when I say you're new to editing. 5225C (talk • contributions) 00:39, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
