The Chainsmokers
[edit]Please do not remove the {{copyvio}} template from articles, as you did with The Chainsmokers. Your action has been reverted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted, and removing copyright notices will not help your case. You can properly contest the deletion at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. If you are the owner of the material, you may release the material under the Creative Commons and GFDL licenses, as detailed at WP:IOWN. Alternatively, you are welcome to create a draft in your own words at Talk:The Chainsmokers/Temp. If you continue to insert copyright violations and/or remove copyright notices, you may be blocked from editing. Psychonaut (talk) 19:06, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Please stop removing the copyright violation template. If you want to volunteer to write a non-infringing version of the article, please do so at Talk:The Chainsmokers/Temp. Removing the template again will be considered vandalism and lead to your being blocked from further editing. —Psychonaut (talk) 19:51, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Can you please advise on what I need to do to rectify this situation in a timely manner? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4AMNYC (talk • contribs) 20:11, 30 January 2013
- That depends on whether you hold the copyright to the text reproduced in the article, and if so, what you want done with it. If you are the copyright holder and wish to license the material under terms compatible with those used for Wikipedia, then please see WP:IOWN. If you are the copyright holder but don't wish to freely license the material, you don't need to do anything; the article text is currently hidden and will be deleted soon. If you're not the copyright holder but want to provide a version of the article which doesn't include any infringing text, you can write it by editing the page at Talk:The Chainsmokers/Temp. Once you've done so an administrator or copyright clerk will come along and replace the infringing version of the article with yours. How long this takes varies; the administrators and copyright clerks are volunteers and process outstanding copyright violation problems as their time permits. You might be able to attract their attention by posting a note below the article's entry at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2013 January 11. —Psychonaut (talk) 21:24, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

- Thank you very much for the response and filling me in with all of this information. You are being very helpful and I greatly appreciate your assistance. I already removed the article/link that was in question and everything has been changed accordingly in the Talk:The Chainsmokers/Temp page. I know that you said the timing varies but from your personal and professional experiences with these matters, how long do you think is realistic for this? Days? A week? A month? Thanks again for your assistance. I will be sure to post a note below Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2013 January 11. 4AMNYC (talk)
- I don't edit Wikipedia professionally so I can't offer a "professional" observation. The time to clear a copyright violation really depends on the size of the current backlog of copyright problems and the availability of volunteers to clear it. You can take a look yourself at the recent listings at Wikipedia:Copyright problems and note the time between the listing and its resolution. Some simple cases sometimes get resolved within hours, though others can take weeks. —Psychonaut (talk) 21:53, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
