Your question on my talkpage

[edit]

Hi 3143628a, first, I left you two templates on this talkpage, which you might find useful: a "welcome" template with important links for new users, and an invitation to the "Teahouse", a place where new editors can ask questions and get answers quickly. Next, I want thank you for stopping by my talkpage. As the founder of WP:WikiProject Women writers, I am super happy to hear you'll be working on articles within its scope!! If you're asking why [[1]] doesn't have much information, it's because its purpose is to show examples of article assessments. What do you think you'll be doing on Wikipedia... creating an article, expanding one, assessing articles... something else? I look forward to hearing back from you; you can either respond on this page, or you can respond on my talkpage. Best, --Rosiestep (talk) 00:48, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Dorothy Adkins

[edit]

Hello 3143628a,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Dorothy Adkins for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ubiquity (talk) 21:36, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Avoiding premature deletion

[edit]

First, good work on the Tuna Canyon Detention Station article, it looks great! I'm sorry I tagged it for deletion, but it certainly didn't look like that at first. When you put an article into the main article space, you should be prepared for it to receive immediate attention from other editors. This means you should already have the basics of your article: a statement clearly describing the subject of the article, an assertion of its importance, and at least one citation from an independent, reputable source to back it up. If you cannot provide those initially, there are several ways to build an article so that no one else will look at it while you are working on it:

  1. put it in the Drafts space
  2. put it in your own user space
  3. work on it in a sandbox

With all of these, once you have the article the way you want it, you can either move it or cut and paste it to a page in the main article space.

At the very least, if you are not ready for other editors to review (and possibly tag) your work, you can place an Under construction tag at the top. But note that the description of the template says "In general, this template should not be used for new articles with little content. Instead, the sandbox should be used to develop the article so that it has reasonable content when it is copied into namespace."

Hope this helps. Keep up the good work with your articles! ubiquity (talk) 15:33, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
