Mary Margaret (last name not known) was a childhood "best" friend. Nanci talked about her in a short story before singing the song "There's a Light Beyond These Woods Mary Margaret" she wrote about her, live in Telluride in 1988. They had dreams they shared in the Texas flatlands, where Mary Margaret said she fantasied to steal away to New York to be with Leonard Cohen ('to drink the poet's wine"), but ended up marrying a local farmer in the flatlands of Texas (I-10) near Lubbock.
