Controversial topic area alerts

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in any gender-related dispute or controversy and associated people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor. — Newslinger talk 04:41, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

Procedures

[edit]

I am an uninvolved administrator reading Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement#2601:C4:C300:1BD0:4C8F:CA4A:AD98:6994. I would like to inform you about standard procedures. It is surprisingly common that events occur (outside Wikipedia) where observers can see that certain motivation or explanation is likely, but where there is no reliable source which definitively states the motivation/explanation. That happens because events are always complex and determining someone's motivation is almost impossible unless they repeatedly state what has caused them to act the way they did. Accordingly, an article like List of people killed for being transgender is a big problem because whereas it might be "obvious" that someone was killed for a particular reason, articles here do not include original research or unreliable sources. You will have to accept that many transgender killings will not be included in that list because the references are not suitable for Wikipedia. That's how it works here, and those rules apply to every article. The editors reverting you are not transphobic. Johnuniq (talk) 02:58, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
