[edit]Hi there! I hope you don't take it personally that I closed the section you started at Talk:Murder of George Floyd. It looks like Fabrickator is willing to help you with your research, either here or at their user talk page. Firefangledfeathers (talk) 19:31, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Regarding the issue of your school "encouraging" you to check sources, my feeling is that this is the right thing to do. While WP's policy is that editors are expected to accurately cite sources, there is no assurance that editors will actually obtain information from reliable sources, or even that they won't intentionally post inaccurate information. This is why one should remember that WP is not a reliable source. (This seems to be somewhat of a controversial statement ... the opponents of this statement point out that any random statement selected from WP has a very high likelihood of being accurate, but OTOH, there are people who will willfully distort things they post on WP, and while it's not unusual for erroneous content to be rapidly removed, it's also not that unusual for erroneous content to remain posted for years.
- If you are still trying to figure out how you can verify the sources from the Washington Post (without having to be affiliated with some sort of participating institution), please just let me know you're still interested and I'll try to offer some specific suggestions. This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
