Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, discussion pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Talk:Christopher Hitchens, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:11, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

How do I delete a section of a talk page then? The section is no longer relevant because I fully resolved the issue. 2601:346:C281:79F0:45E2:43FD:A27F:FB95 (talk) 07:15, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You don't; talk page comments are left as a record of past discussions. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:21, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So on the Christopher Hitchens talk page, there's only ever been six discussions? 2601:346:C281:79F0:45E2:43FD:A27F:FB95 (talk) 07:23, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, older discussions have been automatically archived. The links to the archives are at the top of the page. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:26, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help. I realize the archives exist, I'm just wondering about removing the section from the main talk page. Is that done automatically? Do I have to mark it for deletion or something? 2601:346:C281:79F0:45E2:43FD:A27F:FB95 (talk)
It'll happen automatically once comments stop being added to the section. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:32, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Christopher Hitchens

[edit]

@2601:346:C281:79F0:45E2:43FD:A27F:FB95: Greetings! I see that you have started editing on Wikipedia (P.S: I encourage you to start an account!). I have reverted your edits on the list of influenced people due to a couple of reasons. If we look at WP:RELIABLE, one should not use video (such as YouTube) as references for text. If you find a journal, book, news, reliable website, etc., you can add these. Make sure to properly fill the references with templates so that not only a link is there. Also, please note that when using a list of Influenced people, only the most notable (WP:NOTABLE) should be linked, i.e. maybe 5 (or so) of the most notable influences. Your edits have been archived in the "View history" button. Take care! Wretchskull (talk) 19:52, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
