[edit]Hello, I'm WadeSimMiser. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made with this edit to Carmel High School (Carmel, Indiana), because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. WadeSimMiser (talk) 22:02, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello, 208.119.135.253. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page St. Theodore Guerin High School, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 16:04, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- In the article St. Theodore Guerin High School there has for some time been a history of unacceptable editing, with repeated addition of promotional content, evidently posted on behalf of the school. The content has been such as might be suitable for a school prospectus, but Wikipedia is not a tool for a school, business, or any other organisation or person to tell the world about what it regards as good about itself: that is one of the purposes that the school's own web site can serve.
- The editing in question has violated several Wikipedia policies and guidelines, including the policy that promotional editing is not permitted, the policy against edit-warring, the guideline on conflict of interest It has also involved evasion of blocks on at least one account and at least one IP address. Those blocks were placed to prevent such unacceptable editing. It also seems likely that the editing has violated the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use, in relation to paid editing.
- Recent editing from this IP address has continued the pattern. Therefore this IP address has been blocked from editing. The article has also been temporarily edit-protected. It will be possible if necessary to protect it for far a longer time, but I hope you will not make that necessary, because that would be likely to cause inconvenience for legitimate editors, as well as stopping your persistent attempts to use Wikipedia to promote or advertise the school. If you believe there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by adding the text
{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 09:07, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
- Note: Since posting the message above I have looked further into the relevant editing history. I have discovered that the problem has been much more extensive than I realised. There has been promotional editing on behalf of the school from this IP address for over two years, and from other IP addresses it goes back even further. Above I referred to "blocks on at least one account and at least one IP address" but I now realise that there have been blocks on a number of IP addresses. I shall therefore increase the length of the block on this IP address. I shall also put a watch on the article, and if the same kind of thing comes back after the current protection ends I shall protect it over a time scale of years, rather than months. However, as I said above, I hope you won't make that necessary. Please accept that Wikipedia is not a tool for your school to present the world with the picture of itself that it wishes to be seen, and put your efforts at promoting the school in somewhere else. This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
